Virgin Bet Raceday Preview

1.30pm - Aspiral looked like she appreciated the step up in trip last time out when winning over 7 furlongs at Carlisle. She looks to have tactical pace and looks interesting now stepping up to this 1-mile trip. Wetsand competed in a Group 3 at Deauville last time out and was by no means disgraced. She should find this task today an easier challenge if she stays the extra distance. Swift Winds won at the big price of 40/1 in a maiden race at Brighton. That race may not have been the best and others are preferred. 2.05pm - There are three course and distance winners in this 7 furlong handicap. One of those is Great Acclaim, who was the 18/1 winner of an 20 runner handicap last month. He followed up that win with a narrow victory in a Racing League handicap at Chepstow. Mudbir is another course and distance winner who won a 16-runner handicap here last time out from stall 1 and goes up 4 lbs in the weights today. He breaks from stall 12 today and a repeat of his last effort should see him go close. Another 3-year-old of interest is Back In Black who was a 2-length winner of a handicap at Newbury back in April when racing off a mark of 86. He runs off 92 today which is a tough ask for him but looks a consistent type with place claims today. 2.40pm - Majestic returns to British racing after a spell of racing in Bahrain. He did register a win in a handicap over 1 ¼ miles. He steps up to 1 ½ miles for the first time running off top weight of 98. It’s a tough ask for the 7 year old gelding today and maybe best watched. Incensed could improve if she starts better this time out. Her best runs have come when she has been up with the pace and having missed the break on her last start at Newbury, there is potential improvement to come but she will need to break better today. Adjuvant returns to the track off the back of a long layoff and probably best watch on reappearance. 3.15pm - Itraaq finished 3rd of 4 runners at Nottingham in June. She may well improve for the run there and is likely to be popular for strong connections. Just Keep Flying represents the Gosden yard and the Justify filly out of a Galileo mare looks an interesting contender on racecourse debut. Vronti looks interesting stepping up in trip and can come on again from her last run at Kempton where she finished runner up to 10/11 favourite, Raammee. 3.50pm - Pink Lily runs well here at Goodwood and looks a danger stepping back up to 1 ¼ miles today for Richard Hannon. Wicked was disappointing last time out here but that was on heavy ground and the Kingman colt may be better suited by today’s ground conditions and stepping up in trip. Whathappensinvegas is up 4lbs today but looked in good form when winning a Racing League handicap at Windsor recently and a repeat effort of that performance should see him go close today. 4.25pm - Macari has his chances of repeating back-to-back wins. A mark of 79 looks feasible and he stays this trip well. Autumn’s Breeze was a runaway winner at short odds in a class 6 race at Wolverhampton. This will be a more difficult challenge for him now off a mark of 75 but looks an interesting contender who has tactical speed. Diamond Bay is a course and distance winner and the step down in class makes him a player here but improvement is likely needed. 5.00pm - Rosario ran a good race in the Shergar Dash at Ascot considering he lost a lot of ground at the start of the race due to the blindfold coming off late. He made an eye-catching recovery to finish 5th of 10 runners. He is a course and distance winner and a mark of 91 looks more than feasible for him to overcome. Queen All Star did not run her race last time out in the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown. She looks interesting now back in handicap company having previously impressed in winning a handicap race at Sandown.

THE COURSE c o ur s e c h a r a c t er i s t i c s Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

Doncaster debut winner WETSAND wasn’t beaten far in a Group 3 at Deauville next time and in receipt of 4lb from recent Carlisle scorer Aspiral, she can prove too strong now eased in class. Swift Winds shed her maiden tag at Brighton latest but will need more to repeat the dose, so newcomer Oh Yes You Do, whose stable have had a handful of debutants go in this season, could pose a bigger threat.

Race Summary Plenty with chances, and only a tentative vote can go to BACK IN BLACK. James Fanshawe’s colt hasn’t been seen since scoring at Newbury in April, an effort for which he was subsequently raised 6lb. The Dark Angel colt still holds an entry in the Park Stakes so if hoping to take up that engagement, he will need to go close today. Both Mudbir and Great Acclaim arrive in search of hat-tricks and neither should be far away, while Golden Mile hero Rhoscolyn is another to consider.

Race Summary It looks best to side with PRINCE OF THE SEAS, who hit the frame in a contest at Ascot’s Shergar Cup meeting a fortnight ago. With Jack Dace removing a handy 5lb, the lightly-raced three-year-old ought to go close. Adjuvant hasn’t been seen since finishing a creditable ninth in the November Handicap at Doncaster last year but market support would be noteworthy, while the class-dropping Crystal Flyer should not be overlooked.

Race Summary Club Class, Made U Blush and Vronti all possess official ratings of 75 and bring plenty of experience to the table, but it may pay to side with the less-exposed DREAMASAR. Ed Walker’s filly is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Dreamloper and shaped with plenty of encouragement when outrunning her odds of 25/1 to finish third on debut at Newbury. The daughter of Masar takes a step up in trip and could have any amount of improvement to come.

Race Summary Whathappensinvegas justified favouritism by just under two lengths in this class at Windsor and is likely to be on the premises, despite his 4lb higher mark. Pink Lily made a pleasing return when making the frame at Newmarket and is a C&D winner to take seriously. However, ASMEN WARRIOR looks the way to go. The three-year-old made a pleasing start for the James Owen yard when second at the same venue last month and can capitalise on an unchanged rating.

Race Summary GOBLET OF FIRE returns to the level for the first time since October having run with credit in some very competitive handicap hurdles, most notably when third in the Swinton at Haydock. Nicky Henderson’s gelding may have unfinished business in this sphere and gets the vote at the chief expense of Autumn’s Breeze, who made a mockery of a 7lb rise when winning easily at Lingfield. Despite being 14lb higher in a tougher race, she commands plenty of respect along with Calvert, who sports cheekpieces for the first time.

2024 WINNER: ENCHANTING 3 8 12 Hollie Doyle 11-8 (Andrew Balding) 6 ran

STEWARDS NOTED: QUEEN ALL STAR:Following its run on 5/7/2025 it was reported that the horse stopped quickly. CINQUE VERDE:Following its run on 29/7/2025 it was reported that the horse reared as the stalls opened.

QUEEN ALL STAR appears likely to bounce back to form after finishing last in the Coral Charge at Sandown. Jack Channon’s filly had progressed nicely prior to that effort, winning three of her four starts, and the return to handicap company should be in her favour. The hat-trick seeking Grandlad is capable of being in the mix, while others for the shortlist include Seven Questions and All Ways Glamorous.
