WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

We extend a warm welcome to Port of Blyth returning as main sponsors of this evening’s meeting, having been unable to attend last year We also welcome Northumberland County Show who are regular supporters of this fixture; this year’s show once again takes place at the Bywell Show Field on Saturday 24th May, with tickets available to purchase from Northumberland County Show.

It is always a pleasure to welcome back the Siddall family. They are sponsoring a race in memory of their mother Lynn who trained racehorses and whose last runner was at Hexham at this fixture in 2021

The last race this evening is a celebration on behalf of Steve Charlton; successful National Hunt jockey who upon his retirement continued in racing, becoming the senior valet on the Northern National Hunt circuit for the past 38 years. Valets are the unsung heroes of the sport, working in the shadows of the weighing room to look after all of the jockeys’ needs - ensuring they are the correct weight and wearing correct colours when going out to ride. We wish Steve a happy retirement and hope he can get his golf handicap down! Whether you are a regular visitor or first time at the course we hope you have an enjoyable and successful evening and look forward to welcoming you back.

If in need of assistance when on the racecourse, please contact the racecourse office situated next to the turnstiles or ask a member of catering, racecourse or stewarding staff who will be only too pleased to assist Robert Whitelock

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

Lynn SiddalL

Memorial Handicap Chase

Lynn trained at Stonebridge Farm in North Yorkshire for nearly 50 yrs.

She liked to run her horses here and enjoyed plenty of winners, including Silent Snipe who still holds the track record over the 3 mile Chase course.

Sadly, Lynn passed away on the 19th May 2021 , the day after saddling her final ever runner here at Hexham, and is greatly missed.

The next race is run in her memory.
