We are delighted to welcome you to one of the most anticipated fixtures of the Jump racing calendar –Betfair Chase Day at Haydock Park.
Today’s feature, the Betfair Chase, stands as the undisputed jewel in the crown of our Jump season and a cornerstone of the British staying-chase programme. Now firmly established as the first major Grade One of the campaign, it marks the moment when the finest staying chasers step forward to set their stall for the winter ahead. We are immensely grateful to Betfair for their long-standing partnership and continued support of this flagship meeting.
First staged in 2005, the Betfair Chase was introduced to create an early-season championship test for top-class staying chasers. Over the past twenty years, the race has drawn some of the greatest names to grace the game From the mighty Kauto Star – a record four-time winner whose brilliance defined an era – to Cue Card, Bristol De Mai, and A Plus Tard, the roll of honour reads like a celebration of the sport’s most courageous and charismatic heroes
This year has already been a memorable one at Haydock Park, and your support continues to help us grow and evolve We are proud of the atmosphere, excitement, and community spirit that our racedays inspire, and none of it would be possible without our loyal racegoers and the dedicated team who work tirelessly behind the scenes As we embark upon another exhilarating Jump season, we hope today sets the tone for the months ahead.
Looking forward, we have a fantastic programme of Jump fixtures to come throughout the winter as we continue to offer high-quality racing and exceptional hospitality. We hope you will join us again across the season, whether for a festive raceday, a midweek winter meet, or one of our major spring fixtures Tickets and Hospitality packages are available through our team or via our website
Best of luck to all owners, trainers, jockeys, and connections with runners today, and we wish every one of you a thrilling and enjoyable afternoon here at Haydock Park Racecourse.

Welcome to all our Annual Members for another National Hunt Season at Haydock Park.
In the pantheon of equine pugilism, few contests possess the gravitas and galloping grandeur of the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park Inaugurated in 2005, this autumnal extravaganza swiftly transcended its juvenile status, metamorphosing into a veritable colossus of the staying chase division. Conceived as the cerebral cornerstone of the now-defunct Triple Crown bonus, it lured titans with tantalising lucre and the promise of immortality.
Kauto Star, that four-legged polymath of prestidigitation, annexed the race four times with the insouciance of a creature born to bestride greatness Cue Card, a horse seemingly fuelled by rocket-propelled enthusiasm, matched that tally with theatrical aplomb. The race has become a crucible of character.
It has once again served up a fascinating contest, with Royale Pagaille bidding to retain his crown and head for a triumvirate of wins. He seems to love Haydock Park as much as the Annual Badgeholders! Add to him the prospect of young up-and-comer Haiti Couleurs and last year’s runner-up Grey Dawning, and the contest is thoroughly absorbing.
Whetting the appetite for the Betfair is a graded novice hurdle, a graded staying handicap hurdle, and a graduation chase—and, as an aperitif, Famous Bridge bidding to follow up on his firstpast-the-post victory.
We also have a smorgasbord of exclusive amenities for members today, from a designated seating area to two viewing boxes high up in the County Stand.
Work has been ongoing since the summer for our 2026 Badgeholder offering. An abridged reciprocal fixture list is available in the Members’ Bar, and it really is a great way to meet like-minded individuals at fantastic value.
We also have our Festive Luncheon on the 30th December, with gastronomic delights available for our membership. Should you wish to attend, kindly note this is a pre-booked event only and numbers are limited.
Today really is a joyous occasion, and I wish you an enjoyable and successful afternoon’s racing.

Nora is adored by the whole family, not only did she win under rules including here at Haydock she also looked after her rider Amy in 4 charity races over the past 12 months raising over £5000 for charity. A highlight being 4th at the Punchestown festival. She last ran in Aug this year in the Newmarket town plate and has spent the past few months enjoying some downtime hacking out with the children and doing some flat work. She has a home for life in North Wales
Kemboy, the legend, a superstar and general lovely horse who has fitted into his retirement very easily He ran and won his last race, The Bobby-Jo, in February 2023, he was due to retire at Punchestown of 2023 but sadly, he sustained an injury on the gallop, so his retirement was brought forward. The future is to do RoR showing and dressage on him, and some jumping, but we will see as it is still early days in his retirement.
Obey The Rules is a former Jump racehorse who retired at the age of 8. Emma has owned him for 2 years; she had him straight from Donald McCain’s yard When she picked him up, she was told he is a gentle giant and that is exactly what he has turned out to be. He stands around 17hh. He has taken to everything well never phased. Since owning Obey they have done camps, cross country, showjumping, and has recently stepped up a level in dressage

Afaak was trained by Charlie Hills and owned/bred by Sheikh Hamdan. He notably won the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot in June 2019, after his Ascot success, he competed internationally In 2021 Afaak (now called “Frank”) was retired from racing and retrained, he competes in non-racing activities, including hacking and has even started jumping.
Bristol De Mai was retired in February 2023, at the age of 12. He ran 42 times, winning 12 races, and earned about £900,768 in prize money. His biggest achievements include five Grade 1 wins, most notably a hat-trick in the Betfair Chase here at Haydock Park (2017, 2018, 2020). One of his most famous wins was by 57 lengths over Cue Card in the 2017 Betfair Chase one of the widest winning margins in a Grade 1 in Britain or Ireland. After retiring, he went onto to live with Clare Lawes (wife of trainer Toby Lawes). In retirement, he has been doing flatwork, lessons, and even some eventing-style training. Lawes describes him as “an absolute gentleman” intelligent, calm, very trainable

KABRAL DU MATHAN proved ultra-consistent in strong 2m handicaps last season and there should be more to come over this longer trip on first start for Dan Skelton. Florida Dreams record in handicaps (1-10) doesn’t do him justice, having finished runner-up three times and he may again prove second-best, while Andashan looks a likely improver now upped in distance.

Indeed, he produced a fine weight-carrying performance on his reappearance over hurdles at Newbury, leaving the strong impression that he’ll have more to offer back in this sphere during the months ahead. FAMOUS BRIDGE has an enviable record at this course and should be spot on after a satisfactory return over the smaller obstacles at Ayr 3 weeks ago He can take this prize home for the second time. Shomen Uchi may have plenty more to offer over fences and is feared most, whilst Major Fortune will be dangerous if building on his promising return over an inadequate trip at Cheltenham last month.

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
