A warm welcome to you all for our Season Finale Raceday, the final fixture of what has been a wonderful 2023 season here at Hamilton Park.
A big thank you goes to all of today’s sponsors; CAE Technology Services, Molton Brown, the European Breeders Fund, Gartcraig Inn and our very own Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park. I would also like to thank all of our valued Annual Members for their continued support this year We are also marking the 80th birthday of Hamilton Park’s Chairman, Sir Ian Good this afternoon. Sir Ian joins us today along with family and Board members and so on behalf of the whole resort team I wish you many happy returns on your recent birthday and thank you for your immeasurable contribution to Hamilton Park. We have a fantastic afternoon of racing ahead of us with some competitive fields across the card. We will also be crowning our champion Owner, Trainer, Jockey and Apprentice Jockey as our season comes to a close. Today’s results will no doubt play a part in the final standings with the Owner’s title still wide open. Mr J Toes & Mr J O’Loan are currently leading the standings, but with no runner today I’m sure reigning champion Jimmy Long will be hoping to overturn their slim lead. It’s also incredibly tight at the top of the Champion Trainer’s standings, with just thirteen points separating current leader Jim Goldie and Iain Jardine, with both having strong chances across the card today.
Andrew Mullen has a commanding lead in the race for the Jockey’s title which is all but secured barring an exceptional day for those in the chasing pack which include Ben Curtis and Paul Mulrennan. However, the Apprentice Jockey Championship is still very much up for grabs, with one win separating William Pyle and Jonny Peate at the top of the standings.
With the season drawing to a close, I would like to thank every Owner, Trainer, Jockey and member of Stable Staff for their ongoing support of our fixtures, as well as our own incredible team at Hamilton Park. Without your skill, commitment and enthusiasm the 5 Star Hamilton Park experience would be impossible to deliver and maintain across each and every fixture.
Lastly, thank you to every racegoer who has visited us this season. I hope you have enjoyed our racedays as much as we have, and I look forward to welcoming you back when next season’s fixtures get underway on Sunday 5 May 2024.
Have a great day and I hope you find a winner or two!
Kind regards,
ASHLEY MOON, RACECOURSE MANAGING DIRECTORConnor Beasley

about SIX FURLONGS (6f abt 6yds) (1200m)
This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

about FIVE FURLONGS (5f abt 7yds) (1000m)
This race is a five furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

ONE MILE about 68 YARDS (8f abt 68yds) (1600m)
This is a one mile half a furlong handicap race for three-yearolds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 90 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 85.

She’s been hit with an 11lb hike in the weights, but this well-bred filly remains unexposed and may well be equal to the task. This is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for threeyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

ONE MILE about 68 YARDS (8f abt 68yds) (1600m)
This is a one mile and half a furlong handicap race for threeyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): C Johnston ( 16 wins from 78 runners, 21%) runs ASK PETER
Longest Traveller: LEDNIKOV trained by I Furtado, Newark, 268 miles.
BETTING FORECAST: 9-4 Lunacy (GB), 11-2 Jaminoz (IRE), 7-1 Ask Peter (FR), 8-1 Graces Quest (GB), 17-2 Rory The Cat (IRE), 10-1 Golden Valour (GB), 12-1 Ebony Maw (GB), 22-1 Lednikov (GB), 28-1 Lochnaver (GB)
RACE SUMMARY: If in the same mood as when scoring here eight days ago, LUNACY will take plenty of stopping under a penalty Jaminoz was also a decisive course winner on his latest start and he is a greatly respected under a penalty, too. Graces Quest is dangerous to discount off this reduced mark, while Rory The Cat was no match for Luncay here last time but he’s pretty consistent on the whole and should give another good account.
1-2-3: 1.LUNACY 2.JAMINOZ (IRE) 3.GRACES QUEST
