It’s been a challenging couple of weeks for the grounds team due to the prolonged high temperatures, so yesterday’s rain was most welcome. It has certainly helped keep the track, as well as the flowers and lawns around the grounds, in first class condition for today’s fixture. As ever my thanks go to the whole team for their incredible efforts in preparing the racecourse for you all to enjoy.

WelcomeeveryonetoHamiltonParkforourPaycareScottishTrophyRaceday, where we have some excellent racing ahead of us throughout the afternoon.

ASHLEY

Ourthanks go to all oftoday’s sponsors Paycare,The European Breeders Fund, CAE Technology Services and our very own on-site Hampton by Hilton Hotel, which is such a wonderful part of the Hamilton Park resort. If you’ve not done so yet, please do pay the team a visit and enjoy a drink, a meal or of course an overnight stay to make the most of your visit to Hamilton Park.

WELCOME

Today’s feature race, the Paycare Saving You Money Everyday Healthcare Scottish Trophy Handicap Stakes at 4.45pm, has a strong field of twelve taking to the track. It should be a competitive contest having been targeted bytrainers from Newmarket, Yorkshire and of course Scotland. Andrea Atzeni teams up once again with Roger Varian in the familiar yellow colours of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum on Glam De Vega, who was last seen winning at Ripon in early July Classic-winning jockey Tom Marquand makes a rare appearance at Hamilton today, taking the ride on Wilkins for William Haggas, and will be looking to follow up on a recent win at Pontefract, whilst local trainer Keith Dalgleish will be hoping for a strong run from Gioia Cieca under Callum Rodriguez, having claimed victory in this race last year with Platinumcard. It’s just ten days until our last Friday evening race meeting of the season, the Phoenix Utilities Lanark Silver Bell on Friday 26 August, where we will see our ambitions realised as the historic Lanark Silver Bell Handicap is run as a prestigious Heritage Handicap for the very first time. With prize money of £100,000 on offer, it will become the richest race ever staged at Hamilton Park, and is the highest prize money on offer in the UK on that day We also see the welcome return of legendary DJ George Bowie and his GBX Anthems, who will be taking to the stage after the racing action has finished. If you haven’t got your tickets yet there are still some on sale at www.hamilton-park.co.uk. It’s set to be a historic night, and one not to be missed!

RACE DESCRIPTION This race is a six furlong six yard restricted maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking. one mile and three furlongs contest for horses aged three to five years old is another maiden stakes a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory. There are a variety of reasons why the older horses in this race could still be maidens. The latter narrowly failed over 11f here after conceding first run and the extra furlong of this race won’t go amiss, but preference is for John Quinn’s filly, who appeared to stay 2m when chasing home a well-handicapped rival at Catterick a fortnight ago but this is probably her optimum trip Caballero is best of the rest 1 2 3: 1.HAVEN LADY (IRE) 2.RALPHY BOY TWO (IRE) 3.CABALLERO (IRE) STEWARDS NOTE: CAVENDISH: Following its run on 2/8/2022 it was reported that the trainer could not explain the poor run.

This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for threeyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. Like most handicaps on the flat, this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage Leading course trainer (17-22): K Dalgleish (49 wins from 407 runners, 12%) runs CABALLERO and TAXMEIFYOUCAN Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): C & M Johnston (16 wins from 78 runners,
