THE STAY AT HAMPTON BY HILTON ALMADA MILE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) (FOR THE WATSON MEMORIAL CUP) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 81 to 100. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 90 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 85.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): K Dalgleish (56 wins from 439 runners, 13%) runs CHICHESTER and HOWZER BLACK Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): M Johnston (15 wins from 107 runners, 14%) runs FRED and HEADINGLEY Fancy That: M Johnston won this race in 2018 and 2019. The stable runs FRED and HEADINGLEY today. Longest Traveller: STUNNING BEAUTY trained by S bin Suroor, Newmarket, 360 miles.

BETTING FORECAST: 9-2 Jump The Gun (IRE), 5-1 Chichester (GB),

7-1 Poet’s Dawn (GB), Headingley (IRE), 9-1 Stunning Beauty (IRE), 11-1 Hortzadar (GB), Fred (GB), 12-1 Amaysmont (GB), 18-1 Howzer Black (IRE), 20-1 Just Hiss (GB) RACE SUMMARY: JUMP THE GUN could hardly be called a frequent winner but it was hard not to be impressed with the manner of his C&D success 2 weeks ago. He gets the nod to back that up in this stronger contest, with Carlisle Bell winner Chichester, and the sole 3-y-o Headingley, just a couple of the likely dangers. 1-2-3: 1.JUMP THE GUN (IRE) 2.CHICHESTER 3.HEADINGLEY (IRE) STEWARDS NOTE: HORTZADAR: Following its run on 16/6/2021 it was reported that the horse was denied a clear run.
