FINDING YOUR WAY AROUND THE RACECOURSE

WELCOME TO CATTERICK On behalf of everyone at Catterick Racecourse I would like to wish you all a very warm welcome. It feels as though normality is returning with the return of racecards and it has been wonderful to welcome back full crowds this summer. We certainly missed you! I would like to thank today’s sponsors Vickers.bet who have kindly sponsored on several occasions this season, Millbry Hill, who generously sponsor our ride of the meeting throughout the season, and the EBF. In addition, the friends of Tony Ditchburn, who we would like to wish a very happy birthday, and the friends and family of Mick Pawluk, who is embarking upon a long and happy retirement! Today’s meeting is part of National Racehorse Week which Catterick is delighted to support. The racehorse is the athlete at the heart of this great sport, and the love of the horse is the common theme of everyone involved, so it is wonderful to see the enthusiasm with which the inaugural week has been received. I hope that many of you will have had chance to visit stables or follow the many uplifting stories on social media. I would like to thank all the horsemen who are supporting us today and, although we may not have as many runners as usual, most of the races look particularly tricky to predict, so good luck! I hope that you all have an enjoyable and successful day. Best wishes, Fiona Needham General Manager

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

ABANDONMENT POLICY In the event of racing being abandoned, Catterick Racecourse operates a fair abandonment policy as follows: Abandonment before 1st race – full refund Abandonment between 1st and 3rd race – 50% refund Abandonment after 3rd race – No refund Abandonment tickets will be issued on the day and cash refunds will not be given on the day. BETTING RING ENQUIRIES All Betting Ring Enquiries should be directed to the Betting Ring Manager. BIG SCREEN Catterick Racecourse are pleased to announce that the big screen is present at today’s race meeting and will be at all Catterick’s fixtures during 2021. CASH MACHINE A cash machine is available for use in the Gods Solution Bar. COMMUNICATION DEVICES The use of mobile telephones, laptops or any other communication device is strictly controlled on all racecourses. Mobile telephones may not be used in or near any designated betting area, or for off-course betting purposes. Laptops or tablets may not be used in public areas, including all bars and restaurants. Failure to comply could result in your removal from the premises as per the Terms and Conditions of entry. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES In the event of an incident which necessitates the partial or total evacuation of any area of the racecourse, announcements will be made over the Public Address and on the CCTV. Please follow the directions of the racecourse staff and leave your area in a calm and orderly manner. If you feel you require extra assistance please notify the nearest member of the racecourse staff. FACILITIES FOR DISABLED RACEGOERS A viewing ramp for guests in wheelchairs only is situated in front of the Tote building next to the Winning Streak Restaurant. There are disabled toilet facilities in the Winning Streak restaurant, the Gods Solution bar and next to the Winners Enclosure. A lift in the Gods Solution bar is provided for access to the first floor of the Grandstand. HORSERACE BETTING LEVY BOARD The Horserace Betting Levy Board General Prize Fund scheme provides a sum towards prize money at this Racecourse in 2021. HORSE WELFARE AT CATTERICK At all Catterick race meetings we has a minimum of two fully qualified equine vets who are employed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. They work closely with a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer who is also always in attendance. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a horse becoming hurt or injured, the racecourse vets are on hand to act swiftly and treat a horse without delay. It is now standard procedure that all racecourses have modern, fully equipped horse ambulances so that horses can be moved and treated in more comfort. If a horse is injured out on the course, the vets and their assistants will erect screens enabling them to work in private - the use of screens will not automatically mean the horse has been seriously injured. Serious injuries at Catterick Racecourse are thankfully very rare, but we regard any injury, however slight it may be, an absolute priority and we would like to assure all racegoers that we have the right people, the right equipment and right procedures to deal with them efficiently. MEDICAL ROOM Will all racegoers please note the location of the Medical Room, which is situated at the back of the weighing room. RACE CONDITIONS For today’s race conditions, please see page 31. SHUTTLE BUS Catterick are pleased to announce that they are now providing a shuttle bus service between the racecourse and Richmond town centre. Today the bus will leave from the hospitality car park at approximately 5.50pm. For further details please contact the Racecourse Office.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

TODAY’S TIP Plenty in with a shout in an open-looking finale but top-weight ALIENTO is put forward as the answer. Michael Dods’s charge should get a good pace to aim at and, provided some luck in running, he can open his account for the season.
