JUMPS RACING RETURNS TODAY

Today sees the start of our winter jumps campaign which spans 14 meetings and culminates with the Coral Scottish Grand National Festival on April 21 and 22 next year.

The Coral Raceday this afternoon has attracted a good number of runners and many of the leading stables in the north are represented including those of Nick Alexander, Lucinda Russell, Sandy Thomson, Nicky Richards, Martin Todhunter and Mike Smith.

It is also interesting to note that David Pipe sends Sizing Pottsie on the 860 mile round trip from his Somerset yard to run in the Watch Racing Online Free With Coral Novices’ Hurdle.

Brian Hughes who is setting a hot pace as he attempts to win his third Jockeys’ Championship in four seasons has a strong book of rides today and other top riders in action include Tom Scudamore, Sean Quinlan, Conor O’Farrell and Derek Fox.

We have our last Saturday meeting of 2022 this weekend with the Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts Raceday which features seven competitive races with the feature contests the Marine & Lawn Handicap Chase over 2m 4f 110y and the Marine Troon Hotel & Spa Handicap Chase over two miles and half a furlong.

In addition to quality racing on Saturday we also have live entertainment for three hours after the last race featuring top covers band The Kuil.

Dorking Boy (left) and Stan Shepherd won the novices’ handicap chase on this day last year.

Event Of Sivola (left) wins the Conditional; Jockeys’ Handicap Chase at this corresponding meeting last year for Mark Walford and jockey Tom Midgley.

SIZING POTTSIE has undergone wind surgery since he was last seen in action in the Topham Chase at Aintree in April. He’s also made the switch to join David Pipe’s yard in Devon and it’s notable that this classy gelding travels this distance to make his first start of the current campaign. His hurdles rating of 143 sets a clear and impressive standard for a race like this and he’s very much the one to beat. Sanosuke and Jet Legs can chase him home.

toteeachway: Money For Jam

In a wide-open event the marginal preference is for THAT’S YOUR LOTTIE, who arrives here on the back of two encouraging fourth-placed finishes at Kelso. A reproduction of either of those efforts today would give her a big chance. Money For Jam showed promise on his handicap bow in April and he has to be of some interest on his return to action. Others to note are Glory, Spanish Hustle and Warriors Story. totewin: That’s Your Lottie

RACE RESULT DISTANCES

The Nicky Richards stable has had a fine start to the new jumps campaign and TFOU could be one to continue that trend on his return to action. The son of Authorized was a highly-creditable third over C&D in April and with improvement expected, he can get the better of Fever Roque, who has not been seen since finishing runner-up here in January. Toucan Sam has potential over this trip, while Oishin cannot be ruled out either.

RACE RESULT DISTANCES

NELLS SON was last seen finishing a distant fourth behind Three Stripe Life in a competitive Grade 1 at Aintree in April, but saw off the well-fancied North Lodge in a Grade 2 hurdle at Kelso the time before. He makes his chasing debut off top-weight, but his hurdling efforts offered plenty of encouragement and he could make a positive switch to bigger obstacles. Since Day One should not be discounted given the stable he represents, while Corrieben Reiver is respected as he drops in trip.

RACE RESULT DISTANCES

THE QUESTIONER was a progressive sort towards the end of last season and recent outings suggest that he may be about to regain the winning thread, despite being turned over as a short-priced favourite at Southwell last month. Hoganville impressed on his stable debut at Hexham and a 6lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from having a major say once more. Moonacura and Your Place are capable of being in the shake-up as well.

RACE RESULT DISTANCES

MAGIC WAVE has made a pleasing start to his racing career and filled the runner-up spot on both starts earlier this year. He progressed to be denied victory by a head when last seen in April over this course and distance and can build on that, despite a 205-day layoff. Diablo Loch and Artic Row have both shown promise in previous contests and are others to bear in mind.
