MEET ME . . .

ME LONDON, located on the corner of Aldwych and the Strand, was once the home of the popular Gaiety Theatre that was damaged during the war and demolished to make way for an office development.

During excavation of the site for the hotel, both The London Museum and English Heritage were present and remnants of a public house were discovered in the basement.

The original Gaiety Theatre was built in 1868 with an additional entrance from the Strand.

In 1904, the Gaiety Restaurant, occupied premises in the same block as the Theatre. The hotel use associated with Short’s Inn continued until the 1950’s when a Strand Hotel was listed at 333 Strand as well as Short’s Public House. This building became Marconi House, the home to the first BBC radio broadcast.

ME LONDON, designed by Foster and Partners, is the first flagship hotel in which everything, from the shell of the building to the bathroom fittings, has been designed by the practice – the result is an elegant fusion of interior and exterior design that signals a new contemporary approach for London’s boutique hotels. The hotel provides long views of the Strand, while maintaining similar proportions to the windows of Marconi House.

DESIGN The interior design concept is a fusion of contemporary details with traditional themes and combines an extreme monochromatic palette with rich textures and luxurious natural materials. This composition is based on the principals of yin and yang, as guests pass from the darker to the lighter spaces.

There is a reflection of the black marble hallways in the pure white bedroom, sculpted by the angled walls of the central pyramid.

BEDROOMS Floor to ceiling windows provide the rooms with great views of the city skyline. The rooms are full of unexpected features and personal details to make guests feel comfortable and totally at home. From the latest in soundproofing technology to the digital media hubs, the superior quality bed linen and premium bathroom amenities.

Suspended from the white leather walls of each room is a black lacquered wardrobe, with built-in TV and entertainment system, with retro-illuminated onyx shelving and a well-stocked minibar.

The discreet lighting and other perfectly integrated services, including the FLO table lamp, are designed

by Foster + Partners.

The hotel’s rooftop terraces, located on the tenth floor, are an urban Oasis. Radio Rooftop Bar offers spectacular views of the river and Westminster skyline. The light, white interior creates a relaxed environment and draws the focus outside.
