2019 Spirit Award Recipients!

Bradley Today This year we faced some significant and unexpected headwinds. The tariffs imposed by the current administration on a significant portion of our products imported from China had a major impact on our business units. In addition, the uncertainty about the tariffs for the future makes planning and budgeting very challenging.

However, we continue to strongly believe in the longterm future for our businesses and therefore this has not stopped us from investing and developing exciting, new products to grow our offerings in the marketplace and expand into new categories.

At Lamplight, the TIKI® Brand Fire Pit and Wood Pack will be an exciting entry in a new category for us. We will bring to the market a product that will vastly improve the consumer experience compared to what is available today. The TIKI® Brand team conducted extensive consumer research to understand the fire pit experience and addressed consumer needs with patentpending technology.

Char-Broil introduced the new Oklahoma Joe’s® Rider Series Pellet Grills in November, kicking off the 2019 holiday season and building upon 30-plus years of expertise to their already impressive lineup.

Taking the time to get the details right, the Rider Series Pellet Grills provide unmatched versatility and rich wood-fired flavor while at the same time

allowing the user to have an outstanding grilling experience, something competitive products cannot offer.

Zebco is redefining the fishing category, engaging millennials and Generation Z consumers with a socially interactive approach. Zebco received recognition and praise from publications such as Adweek and even the Wall Street Journal for their innovative approach. Zebco is also focusing our fishing business on freshwater fishing and we sold our saltwater brands Van Staal® and Fin Nor® in December. We believe that freshwater fishing has the biggest opportunity for growth and this sale allows us to focus on our biggest brands at Zebco.

Our Real Estate division continues their construction and investments in Uptown Columbus with the construction of the hotel at Riverfront Place. Together with The Rapids, and the other projects in planning or under construction, the W.C. Bradley Real Estate division continues to have a transformative impact on Columbus, making it a better place to live, work and play.

We have a strong and resilient organization. This is only possible because of our team members around the world who are committed to win. The quality of our team members is exemplified by this year’s ten Spirit Award recipients.

Introducing the TIKI® Brand Fire Pit & Wood Pack When most people hear that the makers of the iconic TIKI® Brand Torch are entering the fire pit category, they think it’s a no-brainer. But creating the new, patent-pending Fire Pit & Wood Pack has been a journey for the TIKI® Brand team.

With a consumer first mindset, the team set out to deconstruct the fire pit experience and completely redesign it, addressing the things that frustrate consumers most. They found that every step - from assembly, to lighting, to cleanup - caused a pain point that kept people from enjoying their fire pits any night of the week.

“Everyone just wants to get to that experience of being around a real wood fire faster and easier,” said Andrew Harmeling, Product Manager for Fire Pits & Wood Packs at TIKI® Brand. “The process before, during and after is a huge hassle. We wanted to make it super simple for anyone to enjoy a fire any night of the week.”

The Wood Packs are filled with wood pellets made from upcycled sawdust, sourced in Wisconsin. The Wood Pack ignites for a full flame in less than five minutes, delivering the warmth of a real wood fire with low smoke, less ash and up to a 30-minute burn time.

Add another pack or traditional firewood to keep the fire going. Cleanup is simple with the removable ash pan, leaving more time to actually enjoy the fire with friends and family.

The final product tested extremely well with TIKI® Brand target consumers – millennials who value ease of use, quality and design. They are willing to pay a premium for a quality product that creates an experience and adapts to their lifestyle. They also like to shop online, so TIKI® Brand has decided to sell the product directly to consumers on their website. The TIKI® Brand Fire Pit & Wood Pack and fire accessories including cover, poker and screen, are available for preorder on tikibrand.com. Orders will begin shipping in March 2020.

The keys to addressing these concerns were two innovations that work together to create the perfect wood fire experience — a durable fire pit design that uses airflow technology to produce low smoke and a wood pack that lights instantly and offers a predictable, controlled burn time.

“These sound like simple solutions, but there’s a reason why no one has solved them before, it took a lot of engineering,” said Harmeling. “We joked that making a great fire pit isn’t rocket science, but in the end it was.”

Over the past year, Zebco Brands has stepped out of the box, redefining what it means to be an angler and opening up the world of fishing to millennials and Generation Z. The launch of their 2019 campaign, “Catch On,” has garnered attention and praise not just from the fishing industry, but also the likes of Adweek and even the Wall Street Journal.

“Catch On” uses a refreshed version of “The Fishin’ Hole,” the whistled tune from the famed 1960s The Andy Griffith Show, one of the most iconic TV theme songs of all time. The campaign features videos depicting sun-dappled, vibrantly colored excursions with the aim of showing fishing today as something anyone can enjoy, almost anywhere. Whether it be a camping trip, a bike ride along the river, or even Friday afternoon unexpectedly cut loose from work, Zebco shows that fishing does not necessarily require years of experience nor a ton of time.

The Wall Street Journal made note of this difference at the 2019 ICAST (International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades) trade show.

“Tackle manufacturers as a whole seem slow to embrace a new demographic. Most exhibitors… featured photos of white adult males holding big fish caught with the gear on display. Rod and reel maker Zebco, with its mural of photographs of

young, racially diverse men and women engaged in a variety of outdoor activities besides fishing – bicycling, tending a campfire, swimming – was one exception,” wrote Mike Toth, the Wall Street Journal.

Zebco has seen a positive shift in the category with the ‘Catch On’ campaign and is ending year one of the relaunch up five percent over the prior year. Year two of the campaign will continue to drive support and deeper connections with their audience.

Zebco Brands Announces Sale of Fin-Nor® and Van Staal® On December 2, 2019, Zebco Brands announced the sale of both Fin-Nor® and Van Staal® brands to Pure Fishing®.

Over the last several months, Zebco Brands has been actively engaged in its strategy to drive greater focus on their biggest brands in the freshwater category and to create a faster growing, more profitable business. The sale of the Van Staal® and Fin-Nor® brands is a transformational step in executing that plan and accelerating key strategic initiatives in the business.

“I want to recognize the outstanding efforts made by all team members worldwide to build these brands over the past 15 years,” said Steve Smits, President and Chief Operating Officer, Zebco Brands.

Pure Fishing® is located in Columbia, South Carolina. The acquisition of these brands will add to their saltwater fishing business.

Over the next three to six months, Zebco Brands will work with Pure Fishing® to transition the business. During the transition, Zebco Brands

will continue to operate the Fin-Nor® and Van Staal® brands business on behalf of Pure Fishing® with the same dedication and commitment they’ve shown over the years.

Fishing with the Oceanview Team The Oceanview team members went to Qiandao Lake in Zhejiang Province, China, to participate in the annual fishing training held in September.

The team tested new products like the Zebco 33 Spincast and 33 Micro Spincast Reels. They also trained new team members on the Zebco Brand fishing gear.

The W.C. Bradley Co. Spirit Award celebrates the values for which the company stands. Through this program, the W.C. Bradley Co. recognizes team members whose character, behavior and work performance build positive relationships, enhance their work environment and uphold high standards of integrity and performance. The Spirit Award Reception was held on October 22, 2019, at the Columbus Museum to honor these very special team members.

The Spirit Award was introduced in 1990. As part of this unique Spirit Award recognition, American artist Dr. Garry Pound creates a beautiful color portrait of each recipient and a composite portrait that was unveiled at the Spirit Award Reception. Pound has been a true “spirit” partner through the years, producing works of astute integrity, not unlike the meaning of the Spirit Award program itself. He creates a highly personal representation of each Spirit Award recipient. The individual portraits depict the strength and diversity of the human spirit. The composite drawing represents the synergy of these diverse people coming together as a team which creates the energy that drives the growth and success of the W.C. Bradley Co. The individual portraits and the composite drawing are now on display at the W.C. Bradley Co. Museum in Columbus, Georgia. Later, each portrait will become a treasured addition to each Spirit Award recipient’s home. The composite drawing will remain with the company as a lasting reminder of the many wonderful role models who have made an impact on the organization and those around them.

In his job, Chan assists team members in all of the businesses in executing their corporate strategies by providing a myriad of legal services from protecting intellectual property, to handling regulatory and product liability issues, to mergers and acquisitions and executing patents, trademarks and copyrights for the company’s global businesses.

Chan’s peers say about him: “Alex truly models being ethically unyielding in his conduct. His reputation of integrity is not only recognized with the W.C. Bradley family of companies, but also in a multitude of community service organizations. Alex is truly a servant leader in how he approaches his interactions – he strives to forge excellent relationships with team members, to build a reputation of credibility and connectivity and promote the Legal Department’s role as a strategic partner by delivering sound legal and business advice. Alex is a true W.C. Bradley Co. champion.”

Alex Chan Corporate Counsel, W.C. Bradley Co. Alex Chan was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the oldest son of Kam and Annie Chan. Chan and his younger brother, Gus, grew up in Tulsa where Chan attended Jenks High School. He played the clarinet in the band before focusing on his academic pursuits, leading Chan to graduate as valedictorian of his class of 700 students. He went on to earn a degree in microbiology from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, before attending the University of Tulsa Law School.

In 2008, while still in law school, Chan began an internship with the W.C. Bradley Co. Legal Department in Tulsa working with Don Freeman. It was an easy transition for Chan to become a full-time associate for the company after his graduation from law school in 2011. In 2013, Chan moved to Columbus, Georgia, so the company would have an onsite attorney in the corporate offices. While living in the Eagle & Phenix Apartments, he met his future wife, Dr. Saba Gilani, although it did take him six months to ask her out on a date! After marrying in New York City in July 2018, the newlyweds purchased a home in the Columbus Historic District where they are devoting much of their time to restoring and remodeling the beautiful historic property. Whenever possible, this adventurous couple loves to travel to exciting and exotic locations around the world.

Jessica Dresen Executive Assistant, Lamplight Jessica Dresen was born in Racine, Wisconsin, the second child in a large family with two brothers and two sisters. She attended Washington Park High School where she loved being in theatrical productions.

At the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater campus, Dresen earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science.

two years after college working for Congressman Paul Ryan in his Constituency Service Center in Racine. Not wanting to move to Washington D.C., Dresen stayed in Racine working for S.C. Johnson Company before joining the Lamplight team in 2014 as Executive Assistant to the President and the Human Resources Director.

Dresen provides executive, organizational and meeting support for all departments including scheduling and logistics as well as support to the human resource functions including payroll. She organizes company events and is the “go-to” person in coordinating and managing Lamplight’s community involvements throughout the year in the Milwaukee area. Committed to giving back, the Lamplight team actively supports their local United Way and Ronald McDonald House. One of their biggest projects that Dresen organized involved shutting the company down for the day so 100 percent of the team members could work hands-on at the Lamplight Day of Giving at the Hunger Task Force Farm, where they harvested over 10,000 pounds of fresh produce from the fields for area families.

Away from work, Dresen is very close to her large family who all live in the area. She chose the Racine Zoo as the site for her Spirit Award portrait because it is located two blocks from her beloved grandparents’ house, where she spent many happy hours as a child.

Fun loving, Dresen is always up for an adventure and loves to travel!

Dresen’s co-workers share this about her: “One of the most endearing qualities that we have come to admire and respect about Jess is her high regard for integrity – she holds herself to high standards of honesty and authenticity, as well as those around her. She naturally puts the needs of others ahead of her own. Truth be told, Jess keeps the ‘wheels on the bus’ here because she’s bought into everyone else’s success. To some degree, you could refer to Jess as the ‘conscience of the team’ – quiet, but ever present, keeping us on the right path.”

Gao began giving back to the world when she was a young student and worked tirelessly to win the Olympic bid for Beijing. She was also an advocate for a cleaner environment in China and reducing smog when it was not a popular topic. Gao has led the Char-Broil team to tackle environmental issues and has worked tirelessly with the Lion’s Club to help the disadvantaged in their community. Gao truly believes that every good deed and every good thought will impact the world for good! In her demanding job Gao is responsible for human resources, finance and administration, as well as compliance for the China team.

Gao’s fellow team members explain this about her: “Vivian is a good ‘go-to’ person to gauge cultural differences and the right way to handle a change, a communication, or an initiative. She is not afraid to challenge things to raise the bar. She truly cares about finding ways to improve the business – and encourages people to embrace change and innovation. Vivian has built up a reputation as being accountable, ethical and honest. She enjoys helping people reach their full potential, fulfill their goals and become a winning team together. The spirit of giving and contributing is well reflected by Vivian’s deeds.

Everywhere she goes – Nepal, Japan, the Middle East or the United Sates – she is questioning, learning and thinking about how to become a better member of society.”

Vivian Gao Senior Manager, Administration, Char-Broil Asia Vivian Gao was born in China, and she and her younger sister were raised by their parents who were both farmers. Gao was always a model student in school. After she graduated from Beijing Foreign Studies University in 1994, Gao worked as a university English teacher and as an English interpreter for a TV station. She met and married her husband of 22 years, Michael Chen, when they moved to Shenzhen. They have one 17-year-old son, Johnson Chen, who is a high school student excelling in academic, athletic and artistic pursuits. Gao is a frequent volunteer at her son’s school and his numerous activities. She and her husband highly value education and are devoted to

In her job Machalk has the responsibility to see that all U.S. tax filings for all companies are completed, compliant and filed on time so that the company receives the fullest tax benefit.

Machalk’s co-workers state this about her: “Rhonda is the epitome of courageously doing the right thing, even when it is difficult. She consistently raises the bar of excellence and continuously searches for, and practices, creative ways to improve processes and services. Rhonda approaches her job and each situation with an owner-mentality and has been a good steward of all the resources entrusted to her.

She demonstrates servant leadership and creates a culture of respect with her co-workers. Because she models integrity, she is regularly sought out by her co-workers, as they know she can be trusted. Rhonda applies judgment in a consistent, ethical manner that would make our founder proud of his legacy and heritage.”

Rhonda Machalk Director of Taxation, W.C. Bradley Co. Rhonda Machalk was born in Columbus, Georgia, the daughter of Don and Elaine White. She and her younger brother were raised in Phenix City, Alabama, where Machalk graduated from Central High School.

She began work in a co-op program at age sixteen and has worked all her life. After her two children, daughter, Juli, and son, Stephen, were born, Machalk found herself a young, single mother, working while also attending Columbus State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in accounting. Machalk is also a Certified Public Accountant. She met her husband, Dan Machalk, and his two children while working with him at Otasco. They celebrated 32 years of marriage in 2019. The light of Machalk’s life is six-year-old granddaughter, Jesse, who is in the first grade at St. Luke School. Constant companions, Jesse loves to cook with her MiMi! Family time with their children is a priority for the Machalks. An active lifestyle with outdoor outings is how they love to relax and spend time together.

Involved with her church, Auburn Heights Baptist, Machalk teaches pre-school. She also serves on the board of the Children’s Tree House and is the CPA Chair on the United Way cabinet.

Kathleen McNeeley Director of Quality, Char-Broil Kathleen McNeeley was born in Okinawa, Japan, while her dad was stationed there in the U.S. Army.

The daughter of Garry and Patricia Freeland, McNeeley grew up in Atlanta, Michigan, with her older brother, Scott, and sister, Ruthann. McNeeley

excelled in school and had lots of extra activities including playing the clarinet, being a cheerleader and drum majorette, a member of the National Honor Society and she was even crowned Queen of the Pines at the 4-H County Fair by her older sister who was the queen the year before her! McNeeley earned her Bachelor of Science in statistics with a double minor in computer science and music from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.

McNeeley worked while attending college and it was at these companies where she fell in love with quality.

Following college, she had her two sons, Giustino and Anthony, and spent the next 30 years in quality management at several companies including GE and Newell Rubbermaid. While working at Atlantic Tool and Die, McNeeley met her husband of five years, Don McNeeley, and his two sons, Brandon and Bradley. In 2015, McNeeley was attracted to the position of Quality Director at Char-Broil because of the company’s reputation for integrity and their family values. In her job, McNeeley has the major responsibility of insuring that the quality of their products meets the expectations of customers and consumers from conception to after-market customer service. McNeeley feels that it is important to honor God by giving back to the community which she does through mentoring at the Pregnancy Center and volunteering at the Hospice House.

McNeeley’s peers share this about her: “Kathleen is innovative and embraces different points of view. She does the right thing in all situations and her decisions always show respect for individuals. Kathleen holds herself accountable for her actions and focuses on achieving results while still acting with integrity. She is the embodiment of excellence and is focused on satisfying external and internal customers. She helps the company continuously improve – and her improvements include not only products and customer service improvements, but also those that improve people.”

Without her creativity and her ability, the Badlands brand would literally not be here today. Because of Okcha, our brand is known within our space as having the best warranty, period! She cares deeply about the success of the company and even more, about the success and happiness of everyone within the company. Okcha is simply a winner and one of the best human beings I know.”

Okcha Mikkelson Warranty Service Manager, Badlands Okcha Mikkelson was born in South Korea. She met her husband of 41 years, Mikkel, when he was stationed there as a military police officer in the U.S. Army. They dated for a year before marrying and returning to the United States. Their son, Mikkel, was born in Korea, and their two daughters, Michele and Megan, were born in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they raised their family. Mikkelson lost her beloved husband last year, but she is surrounded by her large and loving family including her ten grandchildren. Family vacations, outings and her grandchildren’s activities fill Mikkelson’s busy life with much joy and happiness.

Mikkelson joined Badlands 19 years ago, three years after Bill Crawley founded the company. Crawley will tell you that Mikkelson is indispensable to him and to

and has a wonderful way of helping her team work through problems to achieve their goals. In fact, Preston had a record sales year in 2019 with sales up in a difficult European market.

Oldham’s co-workers state this about her: “Sara is all about doing the right thing. She is willing to stand up and speak her mind, and in the interest of the company and its workers, she’ll ‘jump through a burning hoop’ if needed. Sara treats the company as if it were her own and makes decisions as if it were her own money at stake. She has shown great leadership skills and has proven to be the listening ear and the glue that keeps the team together. Sara cares for the company and for the people working within it. She always aims to raise the bar for herself and the people around her.”

Sara Oldham Preston Innovations Finance Director Sara Oldham is very proud to be have been born and raised in the city of Stoke-on-Trent, England. She grew up there with her sister, Julie, and her brother, Richard. Stoke-on-Trent is known as “The Potteries” due to ceramic factories that made Wedgewood, Spode, Minton and other English bone china dishes located there. The site of Oldham’s Spirit Award portrait with her partner of thirty-five years, Steve Hughes, is known as The Trentham Estate. Located near her home, it is now a major tourist attraction in England. Oldham graduated from Blythe Bridge High School, and then, while working full time, passed two accounting bodies – the Association of Accounting Technicians and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Oldham has a very big heart and a passion for protecting all animals. She has two beloved rescue cats, Daisy and Mildred. She regularly puts feed out for the wild hedgehogs and red foxes that visit her backyard from the woods beyond.

Oldham joined Preston Innovations in 2009 and then in 2013 managed the sale of the business to Zebco Brands. Oldham is a wonderful servant leader. She is the on-site business leader at Preston and oversees every department. She has a people-first mentality 12

Judy Smith Administrative Assistant, W.C. Bradley Farms Judy Smith was born into a large farming family in Lafayette, Indiana, the daughter of Kenneth and Helen Callaway. Their house was always bustling with six children – five girls and a boy. Smith is ten minutes younger than her twin sister, Jody. The children

learned the value of hard work and of family from their Amish grandparents who lived very primitively with no electricity and horse drawn buggies for transportation. Smith moved to Vernon, Florida, where she attended high school and then trade school to study computer programming. She returned to Indiana to work for a hospital and went on a vacation to Germany. There, Smith met a young U.S. soldier from Tennessee who was friends with her brother-inlaw. She liked what she saw and married Tim Smith six weeks later on the Tippicanoe River in Indiana. They moved to Columbus, Georgia, where their children, Travis and Kristi, were born. Her husband came to work at Char-Broil and Smith also came to work at Char-Broil from a temp agency for a three-day assignment. 29 years later she is still here!

Tragedy struck for Smith when Tim died of cancer in 1996 and then the next year, her 22 year-old daughter, Kristi, died of leukemia. Smith said during that time her W.C. Bradley and Char-Broil family helped her stand when she couldn’t stand alone.

Smith worked with Abbott Turner in Char-Broil Human Resources for 17 years where Turner drilled customer service into her. Today the absolute joy of Smith’s life is her grandson, 11-year-old Timothy. Smith is the proudest grandmother in the stands as she watches Timothy pitch on his baseball team.

Smith’s responsibilities in her job include scheduling all the activities offered at the W.C. Bradley Farms including booking the lodge and cabin rooms, booking the quail, pheasant and duck hunts; overseeing the facilities, and processing invoices, payroll and purchasing.

Smith’s peers have this to say about her: “Judy has demonstrated integrity since she began working at the company. She has held many roles during her tenure. In each, Judy has been a beloved member of the team as well as a leader in modeling integrity, honesty and service. Her caring nature is displayed in all aspects of her work. Judy strives to improve each process and is so good at any task she takes on that she has been considered indispensable within all the departments she has served. Judy truly demonstrates the ‘Spirit’ of the W.C. Bradley Co. in all facets of her career and personal relationships.”

father and Tammy told Tobin not to buy the car. He did anyway and he still has it today. And, Tammy married him anyway! They have two active teenage daughters, Leslie, age 15, and Linsey, age 13. Tobin is very much a “family man” who enjoys spending time with his large extended family in the area and building furniture and home remodeling.

Tobin joined the Lamplight team in 2002 as production scheduler for the wax facility. He was then promoted to quality manager, then regulatory compliance manager. This year Tobin was promoted to materials manager procurement where he is responsible for making sure Lamplight has the right supply of materials in all product lines to support production and meet the company’s commitments to its customers.

Tobin’s co-workers share this about him: “Bill ‘talks the talk and walks the walk.’ He cares a lot about the company and the community. Bill is committed 100 percent to his assignments and keeps everybody on track. He has a passion to do what’s right for the company. Bill offers guidance and direction to make others successful. He has been a ‘go-to’ person for knowledge and support and, by doing so, helps others grow. Ultimately, Bill has helped raise the level of their success in meeting the needs of our customers. He is passionate about our products, is highly collaborative and has a never-ending persistence to work through obstacles. Bill innovates with the way he thinks and presents himself every day!”

Bill Tobin Materials Manager, Lamplight Bill Tobin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the youngest of six children of Patricia and Gerald Tobin.

They lived in the suburb of Franklin where Tobin attended Franklin High School. Tobin graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater campus, with a Bachelor of Business degree in business administration.

His interests included cars, woodworking, cross country and track. Tobin was dating Tammy, who he met in college, when he got his first job and decided to buy a 1997 30th Anniversary Edition Camaro SS. Both his

in math and science and was naturally drawn to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

He was in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in college and after graduation spent nine years in the Army National Guard.

Prior to joining the Lamplight team, Zeitler spent four years designing automatic car washers at a company in Green Bay and then felt attracted to a more urban environment. He moved to the Milwaukee area and joined Lamplight in 2016 as a senior project engineer.

In this position, Zeitler takes a thought for a new product and makes it a reality - going through a series of developmental steps and testing to determine viability of the product. The typical development time for a new core product is eight months before it can be completely tested and qualified. Zeitler might develop up to 40 new products in a year. He loves the constant challenge to innovate and to overcome obstacles to final production.

Lucas Zeitler Senior Project Manager, Lamplight Lucas Zeitler was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the son of Terry and Bonnie Zeitler and the oldest of three. Zeitler attended Bay Port High School where he felt he was too small for sports.

What did interest him was watching his mother design aircraft seats at a drafting table. He was very good

Zeitler loves to travel to distant lands such as Belize, Vietnam and Columbia where he went to scuba dive.

Biking, playing volleyball and spending time with his dog, Chiko, are high on his leisure-time list, too. When it comes to giving back, Zeitler is the first volunteer at Lamplight to work in the community. He is also involved as a volunteer in the Big Brothers/Big Sister Program.

Zeitler’s fellow team members say this about him: “Lucas is one of our top thought-leaders not only because of his ideas, but in the way he goes about executing them. All you have to do is work by his side for a day to realize he cares about the company, the people he comes in contact with, and the world around him. He has worked on novel and unique ways to make our products easier to use while keeping the high standards of safety in the solutions; ways to take cost out of our products while keeping quality in; and ways to make and ship our products quickly and efficiently. He is always setting the bar higher and higher with a battle cry of ‘Come on, I know we can do better!’

Making a Difference Sharing Christmas On December 7, 2019, shareholders, team members and their families enjoyed a performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella at the Springer Opera House located in Columbus, Georgia. In the spirit of the holiday season, attendees brought new toys for children ages newborn up to 18 years of age to donate to the Open Door Community House’s “Village Toy Store” program. This program allows parents to choose gifts for their children in a manner which preserves their dignity if they cannot afford these items at Christmas. The number of families served depends solely on the number of items Open Door receives. This marks the 15th year that the W.C. Bradley Co. has supported Open Door with toy donations, with a total of 308 toys collected this year!

Open Door Community House is a United Way partner and is committed to finding long-term solutions to poverty and envisions a community unburdened by the grasp of poverty. Throughout its history, Open Door has expanded to meet the increasing needs of the community, which has responded by opening its heart to those in need. Open Door works with children, women and families to embody Christ and empower those who need help and hope.

Open Door has been an incarnational ministry since its founding “serving as the hands and feet of Christ” as it opens doors of faith, hope and opportunity to all who seek its help.

Adopt-A-Family The IT and Char-Broil team members in Atlanta, Georgia, adopted a family for Christmas this year through Christ the King Cathedral. With the plentiful donations of the team members, they were able to provide a family of five with everything on their wish list, including clothing, toys, household goods and gift cards to purchase a Christmas meal.

“Our family had three young kids, ages 2, 5 and 7. The parents didn’t ask for much because they wanted the focus to be on the kids,” said Tiffany Kane, Sr. Director, Enterprise Digital and Development at W.C. Bradley Co. “All the items donated were purchased by our team members. Everyone was very generous, and we even had enough money to buy the family extras to ensure they all enjoyed their holiday, including the parents.”

W.C. Bradley Real Estate Receives Award from Historic Columbus Historic Columbus presented an award for adaptive re-use and renovation of the Banks Building to W.C. Bradley Real Estate at their annual meeting on October 29, 2019. The historic property has been updated to create the Banks Food Hall, a collective eatery that will offer 10 dining options and 12,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor seating.

The renovation of the space was sensitive to the original character of the structure and continues to move Uptown Columbus forward with exciting culinary offerings. Banks Food Hall is scheduled to open in 2020.

Susan Wiggins Retires After 39 Years of Service W.C. Bradley Co.’s Vice President of Stakeholder Relations Susan Wiggins retired on November 1, 2019, after 39 years of service.

Wiggins was hired by Bill Turner, the grandson of William Clark Bradley, and began her career at W.C. Bradley Co. in 1980. Wiggins’ role was to serve as the link between the company and its stakeholders, as well as establish and grow a company culture centered around their core values.

Wiggins created and oversaw a variety of projects including the company’s commissioned art collection to coincide with the W.C. Bradley Co. Centennial Celebration in 1985, the annual Prayer Breakfast, Partner-In-Education program with River Road Elementary, the Military Service Walk, fundraising and development of the D.A. Turner Memorial Chapel, the Spectrum Magazine and countless other initiatives for the shareholders, employees and community during her time at the company. Wiggins was also a Spirit Award Recipient in 2001.
