On March 11, 2020 the station was shut down “Tonight, once the robot is turned on, it will stay on until further notice”. May 6th, 2020 the WCBN in Exile Team put together a remote broadcasting guide, known as “Very Fine Business”, that allowed DJs to remote live broadcast. Shortly after, DJs were given the option to pre-record their shows.

Arwulf’s Message to DJ Apprentices in Training (and a good exercise in active listening for the rest of us): 1. Relax and observe carefully. Absorb every nuance of each moment. 2. Sit comfortably on the other side of the turntable console, facing me 3. This music was carefully chosen for its rhythms, textures and melodic/poetic coloring. 4. Savor the music and reflect on its relevance as part of your cultural heritage. 5. Pay close attention to how I speak over the air 6. Contemplate: “What you don’t say is at least as important as what you do say” 7. That refers to Economy of Line, but also content and the art of improvised speech 8. When you listen to people talking over the radio, ask yourself what you would emulate 9. Ask yourself what you would do differently 10.
