DUGOUT VIEW Welcome everybody, I hope you’re all looking forward to this game as much as I am, in what can only be described as a 6 pointer versus Wolverhampton Casuals. I’d like to start this one off by taking the opportunity to thank you all for your unwavering support so far this season and to everyone that has made me feel welcome since I arrived in the summer. I fully understand the disappointment in where we currently find ourselves within the League as a club, I have certainly taken these results home with me every week. But I can say with the utmost certainty that the tide is changing; the Gaffer, Steve and Henry have shown amazing professionalism since their appointment, instilling their identity, culture, and togetherness right from the off and I feel that was evident in the game against Darlaston last week. Despite not getting the result at Darlaston we deserved, we all saw a determined, roll your sleeves up mentality from the lads, alongside large periods of quality from everyone that wore the red & white jerseys and that is just the start. We have prepared well this week, ready to go again and showcase a performance above all else you can be proud of. We know that Wolverhampton Casuals will be a tough outfit, whom themselves will see this as a massive opportunity to pull away from the dreaded bottom two meaning that there will be 32 lads who will be fighting tooth and nail for their respective shirts. We have got to ensure we give that extra 1% in every area, trust each other in possession and have that intensity about us which will make us horrible to play against. I have been a fan of football and local football all my life. I see the values which I hold dear to me, supporting and loving your community, within this club. I want nothing more than to play my small part in helping that feeling to thrive and I know the staff and players feel the same. We have vast ability within this squad and a bunch of lovely lads to match, who understand the importance of this club staying in Step 5 as well as providing happy and lasting memories to a fan base that deserve so much. That is the mission statement and that is what we will achieve. Keep believing and keep banging that drum!

Wolverhampton Casuals The very earliest records show that the club began as Wolverhampton Old Church F.C. based in the Fighting Cocks, Penn area of Wolverhampton. In 1914 the club changed its name to Wolverhampton Amateurs and played at Langley Road and Beckminster playing fields. 1946 the club merged with the Old Wulfrunians club to form a gentlemen’s sporting club to provide a whole range of sporting teams. The club’s name was changed to Staffordshire Casuals and although the liaison with the Old Wulfs wasshort lived, the Staffordshire Casuals continued as a football team and established a new base at Bantock Park. The 50’s saw the Staffordshire Casuals as the most successful team in the Birmingham AFA League winning the league three years in succession and cup winners in a number of competitions. During the late 50s the Casuals moved to Aldersley Stadium and also spent a short time at Codsall playing fields, before purchasing their current home at Brinsford Lane, Coven Heath. Another era of tremendous success coincided with the move to the club’s own ground. After being one of the founder members of the Birmingham A.F.A and winning the Premier Division of that league in 1980/81, Wolverhampton Casuals applied to join the West Midlands League. They were elected to Division 2 in 1981/82 and after two seasons, were promoted to Division 1, for the 1984/85 season. In the following three years theclub enjoyed tremendous success, finishing as runners-up in three consecutive seasons. In 1985/86, they also won the Division I Cup and finished runners-up in the Walsall Senior Cup. After these three impressive seasons and finally meeting the ground requirements, the Casuals were promoted to the West Midlands League Premier Division in 1987/88. However, after two seasons in the top flight, the upgrading of grounds to include floodlights, forced the club back to Division 1 for the 1991/92 season. After winning Division 1 in season 94 / 95 and in order to play in the premier division the Casuals played at Aldersley Stadium for two seasons, during which ground improvements were made and floodlights installed at Brinsford Lane. In season 97 / 98 the Casuals won the Staffs Vase, and came runners up the following season whilst also reaching the league cup semi final. In Season 00 / 01 the club won their most prestigious trophy to date by beating Sutton Town to win the Walsall Senior Cup. This was followed in 01 / 02 with the club finishing 3rd and again reaching the league cup semi final. Season 04/05 the club finish 11th, the following seasons saw the club finish in the bottom half of the table.

Season 10/11 saw a welcome change with the Casuals finishing 12th and reaching the West Midlands Premier League cup final for the first time, thus achieving another milestone in its history. Seasons 11/12, 12/13 & 13/14 saw the Casuals finish 3rd and in 12/13 came runners up in the prestigious J W Hunt Cup. Season 14-15 & 15-16 saw Casuals finish a credible 6th position. Season 16/17 the Casuals finished 2nd their highest ever league position a great achievement. Season 17-18 sawthe Cassies finish a disappointing 9th. Season 18/19 saw the team finished 3rd and win the league cup. Casuals were well placed for promotion in Season 19/20 & 20/21 before the Covid-19 pandemic brought a premature end to both seasons. Season 21/22 due to the NLS restructure saw the Casuals play at the highest level in their history and a late revival ensured the club avoided relegation against the odds and will again take their place at step 5 for the 2022-23 campaign.
