Welcome again everyone to the Greenfields Stadium.

Today we host Romulus FC, a team firmly established in this very competitive League.

There is a lot to learn from Romulus and its football model; their Manager Jason Lanns has built a sustainable and competitive footballing side that has a strong pipeline in promoting local talent, this is a team capable of matching anybody within this League.

We are still evolving as a side and will continue to evolve through the coming weeks. These tests are what we are preparing for in terms of the short and long-term aspirations of this football club. Our levels of intensity and aggression will need to be the best you have seen this Season.

We are improving week on week but it’s now about how we pull all the elements of what we’ve learned together to produce results.

I’m looking forward to meeting many of you at our Race Night, following today's proceedings, in what should be a great evening.

We need that bit of luck we don’t seem to be getting of late but most of all the courage to play and dominate every second and every minute.

ROMULUS FC WELCOME

The story of Romulus Football Club began in 1979, when Club Founder and President Roger Evans - aided by a small band of other parents - decided to form a club where the best young players from North Birmingham were able to play football, irrelevant of their ability to pay subs.

The club started with two age groups: the Under 12s, managed by George Griffin, and the Under 13s, managed by Roger. The teams played at their first home, Penns Lane, in Sutton Coldfield.

Success was instant and consistent. During their early years Romulus were regular winners of both the Lichfield League and the Birmingham Boys League, as well as the Staffordshire FA Youth Cup.

As well as winning trophies, the Roms quickly developed a reputation for producing top class youth team players. Dean Sturridge (Derby, Leicester), Stuart Bowen (West Bromwich Albion), Luke Rogers (Shrewsbury Town & LA Galaxy) Darius Vassell (Aston Villa, Man City and England), Pablo Mills ( Derby, Rotherham United and Crawley), brothers Stefan and Luke Moore (Aston Villa), and Zat Knight (Fulham, Aston Villa and Bolton), Marvin Johnson (Kidderminster and Motherwell), Nathan Blissett (Kidderminster and Bristol Rovers), and Ben Richards Everton (Partick Thistle via Tamworth FC) are all players who went on to flourish in professional football after lengthy youth service to the Roms.

While the youth sides continued to flourish, the Romulus story then took an exciting new turn by entering senior football in the Sutton and District Sunday League. Initially placed in Division Two, Roms won three successive championships, and this heralded a move to the stronger Birmingham Sunday Festival League. This time Roms started off in Division Four, and another four consecutive promotions followed, taking the club directly to the Premier Division.

Twenty years after they were formed, the club joined the English Football Association's Saturday Pyramid system. And what a success this proved to be!

Callum, who is in his second spell with MDTFC, is an attacking wing back, who previously played for Foley Meir

Jamie Hands

Jamie is in his second spell at MDTFC; he is a powerful combative midfield player who always gives 100%.

Jamie’s previous clubs include St Martins & Whitchurch Alport

Jack Howse

Jack is another of this Season’s new signings; Jack is a powerhouse of a midfield player Jack’s previous clubs include Shawbury United & TF3 FC

Seydou Bamba

Seydou is an experienced CB with a vast playing knowledge at Step 4 and 5 level. He first started his Non-League journey back in 2007 for Atherton Collieries. Seydou has played a variety of positions throughout his career. He started as left winger. As time went on, his defensive knowledge has helped him adapt to playing at left back before transitioning to CB, a position he wished he had started at an earlier age. Seydou has the desire to continue playing for as long as he can. He is keen to challenge himself. He has experience in helping his teams stay in their respective leagues with the likes of Ramsbottom and Squires Gate.

Conor Hughes

Conor is in his second spell with MDTFC having rejoined us during the current Season from AFC Wulfrunians. Conor is a powerful central defender who has an eye for scoring goals from set pieces.

Conor’s previous clubs also includes Shifnal Town

Callum Jackson

Callum is the youngest player in the squad and a bright football future awaits this versatile footballing young man.

A local lad Callum came through the ranks of local youth football with Market Drayton Tigers.

Brendon Price

Mr Versatile – Brendon is our current Captain. Brendon is a strong left sided player who is comfortable playing in defence, midfield or attack.

George Scott (Goalkeeper)

George Scott is an outstanding young goalkeeper – one to look out for (Mr Safe Hands)..

George previous club was AFC Telford United.

Isaac Shaw

An early Season signing Isaac is a young and exciting goal scoring forward capable of giving defenders the run around.

Isaac was signed from Alsager Town

Reece Taylor

Reece is in his second spell at MDTFC: Recce is the powerhouse in central midfield.

Recce’s previous clubs include Shifnal Town & Shawbury United

Keefe Williams

Keefe is proving to be an outstanding addition to the team; a strong right sided defender Keefe can also play as a central defender or attacking midfield – a very competitive player

Harlan Rodgers-Morris

Harlan joins us on Dual Registration from Altrincham. He is an young exciting and energetic midfielder that brings another dimension to the team.

Harlan is highly rated within the Altrincham ranks and has recently debuted for their First Team

Josh Bailey

Josh has been on the gaffer’s radar for quite some time and is long term admirer of his ability and the qualities he can bring to this football club.

A superbly gifted footballer with a wand of a left foot he boasts TNS & Caernarfon Town as his previous clubs within the Cymru Premier.

Josh is looking forward to challenge of working with familiar faces and pushing the Gingerbreadmen up the table

Nathan Brayford

Nathan is a 28 year old box to box midfielder who has been playing with Stone Old Alleynians & Stafford town this year. Rich in form at present the manager has had to stave off a number of step 5 clubs for this signature.

A native to these parts Nathan has previously lived in Market Drayton for 6 years and knows how much the team means to the town and is committed to make the club competitive and successful once again.
