WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to Greenfields for this afternoon’s game vs Highgate united FC. I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas and Happy new year to you all. Today is a very special day for me as the new manager of Market Drayton Town Football club. The name of Market Drayton Town within the nonleague pyramid and Shropshire football holds significant weight. So, when I learnt of the opportunity to manage this football club it was a no brainer however there is no time for sentiment and the hard work reversing the fortunes of this club starts this afternoon. There is a good young squad here with a lot of talent and the capability. My job is to improve all these players individually and give them the tools to grow stronger collectively whilst adding further quality and experience in order to give ourselves a chance of something remarkable. Highgate will provide a big test first up. There will be plenty of tackles and physicality and there are some high-quality individuals in their squad too. We will have to be clever and concentrated in our work to stop these players hurting us and in turn cause damage on them too. The welcome I have received from the fans, staff and players has confirmed what I thought; this is a club where people give themselves to the club. The football club connects us, and I will need to use this asset to drive us forward together as one club. We all have a different lens on how we see the world and football. All I ask is we stick together and in doing this success will come. I’m looking forward to having you all by my side and I know your incredible support will give our team the energy needed to drive the right result today. I hope this is the first of many matches we watch together. Bang the drum Up the Gingerbreadmen Adam

DUGOUT VIEW I am absolutely delighted to be appointed First Team Manager at Market Drayton Town Football club. This is a historic club in the Shropshire footballing community which has produced football league players, competed in step four football for way over ten years and holds a significant place in the hearts and minds of its community. It’s an honour to even be considered the next guardian of this football club. Let’s be frank and get right to it. This is going to be a tough task. We are going to need to win more games in the second half of this season than the club has achieved in the last three years. We will need to mirror the form of the top five teams within this league. Success will be measured in many ways, but winning games of football is king, and we will need to do this immediately aswell as balance what future success will look like by the future proofing of the football club for all eventualities. I intend to create an environment where the players can integrate well together to produce an exceptional, consistent work ethic to achieve something our supporters and coaching staff can be proud of. I have clear vision of where I want to take this football club from both a style and standards perspective, but our short-term goal is to immediately pick points up and give ourselves a chance of something remarkable. New and current players will need to look at this as a unique opportunity and relish the challenge. Confidence is low so it will take a certain type of resilience and discipline to address the recent slump and I’m looking forward to meeting the players this week in preparation for our game against Highgate United on the 2nd January. I am in the process of completing my staff, but I can announce that Steve Benyon & Henry Titley- Wall, who both bring an abundance of experience and skills will support in the interim to compliment Sam and Joe who have been incredible in supporting the club through recent adversity and change. To all our supporters, please continue to get behind the club. The club and I need you both home and away and I look forward to meeting you all on this journey. Your fan base was a major attraction for me to this football club so let’s get that drum banging. To use the adage nothing worth doing was ever easy - I intend to give it my all See you all soon Up The Gingerbread Men

WELCOME

HIGHGATE UNITED FC Highgate United FC were formed in 1948 by a group of orphans from the Father Hudsons’ St Vincents Home for Working Boys on Moseley Road, Birmingham who met up again following their individual wartime service. After progressing from junior football played at Billesley Common in the South Birmingham league, Highgate joined the Worcestershire Combination in 1964. Promoted to Division One at the first attempt, the club went on to remain in the league’s top division for over 40 seasons. In 1967 Highgate hit national headlines, unfortunately though due to a tragic, tragic incident here at The Coppice. In front of over 3500 fans here at The Coppice, The Gate were playing Enfield in the quarter finals of the FA Amateur Cup, when midway through the first half, a lightning strike saw several players collapse. Sadly one player, Highgates’ centre half Tony Allden, did not recover and tragically died the following day in Solihull hospital. As a gesture of goodwill and sympathy, Aston Villa agreed to host the replay of the game and game drew an incredible attendance of over 31,000 as the football public of Birmingham and Solihull stood together in tribute to Tony and to show support for his wife of six months and now heartbroken widow Susan. One of the most successful periods in Highgate’s history was the mid- 70s. The club won the league championship (by now known as the Midland Combination for three consecutive seasons between 1972 and 1975 and also experienced its best runs in the FA Cup, FA Amateur Cup and FA Trophy within this period. Success was hard to come by in the following years, until eventually following a 25 year planning battle, in 1997 the club finally received planning permission and floodlights were turned on at the clubs Tythe Barn Lane ground. More success finally came Gates’ way in 2007, when they became the first team from the Birmingham and Solihull area to win the Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup. The following season the club were promoted to the Midland Football Alliance after finishing as Runners-Up in the Midland Combination Premier League. Despite a promising first season in the MFA, the Gate were then involved in annual relegation battles in the pursuing seasons.

That was until 2013/14 when Highgate finished a commendable 3rd in the MFA, their highest ever position - but they soon received a massive knockout blow when they were somewhat controversially relegated by the FA due to new ground regulations and found themselves in the newly formed Midland Football League Division One. The 2014/15 season proved to be The Gates most successful for over 40 years as they went on to do the double being crowned Division One Champions at the first attempt, and winning the Smedley Crooke Memorial Cup defeating Redditch Borough 5-1. There then followed a couple of seasons of steady progression as manager Ashley Pulisciano lead The Gate to two half finishes. 2017/18 season was to prove a monumental season, as a change to the structure of Midlands football offered two promotion places from the Midland Football League and The Gate under the management of Ashley Pulisciano assisted by Craig Woodley made a late charge, only to suffer heartache on the final day of the season as Colehill Town held on to a 2-1 win away at Shawbury to maintain runners-up spot pipping The Gate to 2nd place by just 2 points. The following summer, Pulisciano's ambition and desire played a key role in securing the services of the highly rated, and much sought-after manager Paul Smith to join him in the management role, after Smith had sensationally resigned from Bromsgrove Sporting weeks before The Rouslers secured a back-to-back promotion, meaning 2018/19 could be an exciting season at Tythe Barn Lane.
