GAFFERS VIEW A warm welcome to MDTFC, I wish I was with you all For tonight’s FA Cup match against our friends from Shifnal Town FC, but I have a wedding I need to be a part of.

Yes, it's my wedding day today, and what a day, So I hope the lads can cause an upset and make my day even more special.

We have over the last few weeks been working hard behind the scenes to build what we believe is a squad that can challenge in this league and hopefully brings the good times back to what is a great club run by great people.

It’s a great privilege to have you all here to support the lads from both sides and be part of this special occasion. All I ask you give the lads your full support and get behind the team. This evening is a great occasion to be a part of, but the season is long and challenging, so it’s not just about tonight but about the wet and windy evenings in the middle of November/December so please support the management, team, club, members/volunteers.

I do believe we have a squad that can compete and challenge and hopefully you will see a great game this evening.

I wish the lads all the best from France and hopefully, they do the job for us on the pitch.

WELCOME Although the record books reveal the existence of a Shifnal Town Football Club as far back as the 19th century, the modern-day club was founded as recently as 1964, originally being named St Andrews Club F.C Youth.

As members of the local Wellington and District League, the club’s first significant event was the involvement of Glyn Davies and as a result, the organisation of the club improved, and the first change of identity occurred, with the resurrection of another historic name from the town’s footballing past, Shifnal Juniors being the chosen new title. The final change of name, to Shifnal Town came in 1972.

Sadly, 1985 was to bring catastrophic news, with the compulsory sale of the land on which Admirals Park stood. The club had no alternative but to resign from the West Midlands (Regional) League, leaving club officials determined to see the club rise again. Back in the Shropshire County League, temporarily based at Idsall Sports Centre, the club then purchased 5.5 acres of land to construct and develop what is now the present-day Acoustafoam Stadium (then Phoenix Park).

The club has continued to build, with a first-team now playing NLS Step 5 in the Midland Football League Premier and a ladies team playing in the West Midlands North League. We now have over 20 teams playing within the structure of Shifnal Town FC under junior, adult (ladies and men) and veterans football.

The other great ‘Town’ in Market Drayton Daniel Derrington, opened The Town House Restaurant in February 2018, having previously run a restaurant in France since 2011.

“We want to sell food you can’t do at home, I’m not the only one who can make this, but I’m the only one doing it in the area – you have to travel to Shrewsbury or Nantwich otherwise.” Originally from Halifax, Daniel has been a chef for 18 years.

The Town House serves modern British food but with a twist – such as Braised duck leg ‘Kiev’, black pudding, burnt leeks, duck butter and chip shop curry sauce. Everything is handmade including bread, yoghurts and chutneys and wherever possible local suppliers are being used such as Joules Brewery and Buttercross Farm.
