Second Sunday in Lent | Youth Sunday

Prelude | Kathyrn Mull, flute | Ryan Fleming, piano

Shall We Gather at the River

+ Call to Worship

This is the day that the Lord has made We will rejoice and be glad in it!

Let us be the salt of the earth!

When the path of humanity seems lost or dark.

Let us be the light of the world!

In a world of distractions

Let us find Jesus and walk in his way.

Hymn Tune: Robert Lowry (1826-1899)

Setting: Joel Raney (b. 1956)

When the flavor of God’s kingdom seems absent in the world around us

+ Hymn 314: CHRIST, BE OUR LIGHT Christ , Be Our Light + Please stand as you are able.

Let us worship together in the hope and love of Jesus!

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession | Written by the Youth

Holy God, we know that you are loving and gracious and forgive us when we have done something wrong. Lord, hear our prayer.

Forgive us when we are unkind and make bad choices.

When we act out when we are angry and sometimes gossip or use hurtful words. When we exclude others instead of showing kindness.

When we don’t listen well and don’t follow directions.

When we don’t offer forgiveness and when we don’t forgive ourselves.

When we want what others have and don’t appreciate what we already have. When we are not understanding and do not offer grace to others. When we have stayed away from your Word.

Jesus, please forgive us and help us to walk in Your way. Give us strength and courage to follow you. Amen!

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

In Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

+ Response of Praise: What Wondrous Love is This (Verse 1)

+ Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

Affirmation of Faith | Written by the Confirmation Class of 2025

We believe in a loving Father, a caring Son, and a guiding Holy Spirit. God gifts us his forgiveness through his Son, Jesus Christ. He created the world and gives us everything we need. He loves us as a father loves his children. We believe Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus died for us to bring us closer to God. He cared for us to teach us and to heal us from our sins. Jesus treated everyone with love and kindness. We believe the Holy Spirit guides us in our everyday lives. He gives us wisdom and understanding. We believe the Church helps us stay connected to God by giving us a space to worship. It provides a community to grow our faith. We believe we must follow the word of God to imitate the ways of Jesus. Amen.

Anthem | Westminster Youth Choir + Choral Scholars | Ryan Fleming, director He Will Hold Me Fast Matthew Merker/Arr. Dan Galbraith

When I fear my faith will fail , Christ will hold me fast; When the tempter would prevail, He will hold me fast. I could never keep my hold through life’s fearful path; For my love is often cold; He must hold me fast. He will hold me fast; for my Savior loves me so , He will hold me fast. Those he saves are his delight, Christ will hold me fast. Precious in his holy sight, He will hold me fast. He’ll not let my soul be lost: His promises shall last; Brought by him at such a cost , He will hold me fast. For my life he bled and died , Christ will hold me fast; Justice has been satisfied , He will hold me fast. Raised with him to endless life , He will hold me fast. ‘Till our faith is turned to sight when he comes at last!

A VISION

FOR YOUNG PEOPLE & THE CHURCH

In the midst of a beautiful and broken world, we have a vision for ministry with young people, that unites youth in Christ with all other generations and proclaims the love of God without end. This vision gives us hope:

for a Church that is authentic, a community of faith that lives what they proclaim; for a Church that participates in, and pays witness to the lively, joyful reality of the grace of God for the whole world; for a Church that helps young people to understand what it means to know and experience the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, so that they will, as God does, view all people with love and possibility; for a Church that expresses God’s boundless love by embracing young people as they are, where they are, and where they could be, inspiring them to share their ideas, dreams and unique gifts with the world and the church; for a Church that acknowledges and celebrates youth as the keepers of God’s world, capable of serving as agents of healing, friends to the friendless, and leaders along the path of Jesus; for a Church that encourages young people to live and lead with humility, but also with confidence and joy; for a Church that accepts that it may be changed, even re-made, through the power of the Spirit and by youth’s energy, freshness, and vitality.
