Gardner-Webb University’s Godbold School of Business will welcome local high school students to campus in July to study entrepreneurship and other topics alongside local business professionals during the 11th annual B.E.S.T. (Bringing Entrepreneurs and Students Together) Program. The July 19-22 event will offer opportunities to learn professional skills for rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders. Activities will include business topic workshops, guest speakers, campus tours, outdoor programs and times to network with business leaders and other students. Past guest speakers for B.E.S.T. include local professionals in business, government, law enforcement and media fields. Each day’s program will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of Hamrick Hall on the Gardner-Webb campus and conclude by 2 p.m. Transportation from Burns, Crest, Kings Mountain and Shelby high schools to GWU will be available, and a light breakfast, snack and lunch will be provided each day. Students who complete B.E.S.T. will receive a certificate during a luncheon on the event’s final day. Students can register for this year’s B.E.S.T. LEGALS NOTIFICATION THAT THE CITY OF KINGS MOUNTAIN’S CITY COUNCIL INTENDS TO ESTABLISH THE CITY OF KINGS MOUNTAIN REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION ON JUNE 28, 2016 The City of Kings Mountain’s City Council will appoint an Urban Redevelopment Commission whose duties and responsibilities are described in NCGS Chapter 106A-Article 22. As a condition of getting the release of CDBG funds from the State of North Carolina for the rehabilitation of two properties in the Central Business District, thereby mitigating slum and blight conditions, this Commission shall serve at the pleasure of the City of Kings Mountain’s City Council. The Commission is primarily responsible for defining the geographic location of an Urban Redevelopment Zone within the city limits and preparing a redevelopment plan for this zone that City Council may adopt. The City Council will appoint the City of Kings Mountain Redevelopment Commission at its June 28, 2016 City Council meeting. The program consists of five events that measure muscular strength, cardio-respiratory endurance, speed and flexibility. Students will receive a patch and a certificate signed by president Obama. Students who passed the test in the fall enjoyed seeing a college basketball game at Gardner Webb University and students who passed this spring enjoyed an afternoon at the YMCA pool.
