Mr. Frank Andrew Summers, age 87, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on March 22, 2018. Frank was born and grew up in King’s Mountain, North Carolina. He attended Blue Ridge Preparatory School in Hendersonville, N.C., where he was senior class president and valedictorian. Frank attended college at The Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated with honors in Industrial Engineering. After graduation, he worked for the Humble Oil Company in Texas, then for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Virginia. He subsequently served in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant Company Commander. After the war, Frank returned to Georgia Tech to earn a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. He eventually settled on commercial real estate as his career, working for the Scott Hudgins Company, where he served as Executive Vice President of Sales for five years. He then started his own firm, Frank A. Summers, Co. He was a loving husband to his wife, Claire, of 56 years. Frank loved his church, charitable giving, and golfing. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Claire Summers, his daughter, Virginia Claire Summers, his son, Frank Randolph Summers, and his niece, Bonnie Hinnant Miller. Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 29, at 11:00 AM at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 4814 Paper Mill Rd., Marietta, GA 30067. The family will receive guest one hour prior to the service at the Church.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mearl Valentine, 81, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away March 20, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Born in Cleveland County NC, he was the son of the late O.M. “Shorty” and Gertrude Bratton Valentine. Mearl was a lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain, very active in Kings Mountain Athletics where he was a member of the Kings Mountain High School Booster Club and the Kings Mountain High School Touchdown Club, inducted into the Kings Mountain Hall of Fame in 2014, a founding organizer of Pop Warner Football and recognized by everyone as a fixture at Kings Mountain High School sporting events. He was also a spotter in the football press box for many years. He and his wife. Mary, were married for 60 years. A Celebration of Life service was held Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. Interment was private. Visitation was Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. KINGS MOUNTAIN Krysti Leigh Cook Terry, 39, a native of Cleveland County, gained her angel wings on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at her residence. She was born to the late Carl Ray Cook, Jr. on July 13, 1978. She is also predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Archie and Katheleen Dalton; paternal grandparents, Carl Ray, Sr. and Francis Cook. Krysti leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughters, Maggi Terry and Mayci Terry; mother, Sheila Griffin (Brian); grandchild, Lyricia Queen; sisters, Katie Griffin (Ryan Howard) and Kacey Crosby (Dylan); nephews, Gabriel Griffin, Regan Howard and Maverick Crosby. She was a member at Peach Street Baptist and graduated from Burns High School. She was a customer service representative at Telerx Nation. She was very artistic and enjoyed doing crafts. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchild and her family. She was a special mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be truly missed. A funeral service will be held from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Funeral Home, 132 East College Avenue, Shelby, NC 28152 with Jim Brackett officiating. Clayton Wright Clayton Wright, age 76 of Morning Star Lake Road, Forest City passed away on March 22, 2018 at Hospice House in Forest City, NC. Clayton was born on January 21, 1942 to the late Fletcher and Margaret Wright. His is survived by his wife Joan, his children Robert Wright (Tammi), Clayton Wright Jr. (Suzanne), Tony Hamrick (Misty), Susan Goode (David) and Mechela Murphy (Dean), one sister Colleen Ledford (Arnold), nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two nieces. Clayton was proceeded in death by his parents, and one son Vincent Hamrick. Clayton graduated from Kings Mountain High School and attended several years at Cleveland Community College before serving in the United States Navy. He then went to work for PPG Industries where he remained until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of Southern Baptist Church, the Cliffside Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. He enjoyed fishing, working on almost anything and singing in the choir at his church. A funeral is scheduled for 3PM on Sunday March 25, 2018 at Southern Baptist Church, Ruth, NC with the Rev. Bob Philbeck and Rev. Marvin Green officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Clayton’s life. The family would like to thank Hospice of Rutherford County for their exceptional care during Clayton’s last days. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Southern Baptist Church/ Christian Life Center Fund, 140 Church Street Rutherfordton, NC 28139. Marion Monroe Wilson KINGS MOUNTAIN - Marion Monroe Wilson, 64, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on March 20, 2018 at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg, SC. Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Madison Monroe Wilson and Janie Black. The funeral service was conducted Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 4 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel at Harris Funeral Home. Visitation was on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 2-3:30 p.m. prior to the services at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Diane M. Patterson Diane M. Patterson, 65, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at this time with Withrow’s Funeral Home.

Patterson Grove Easter services Patterson Grove Baptist Church has announced Easter services. Easter Week services will include Maundy Thursday service on March 29 at 6:30 p.m. with the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper observed and Easter Sunday service April 1 preceded by Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast. Sunday school begins at 9:00 a.m. At the 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday the Adult Choir will present the cantata, “Blessed Redeemer.” Everyone is welcome to join the congregation at any or all of the services.

On March 26, 2018 at 1:29pm Officers with the Shelby Police Department were dispatched to Hope Community Church on South Lafayette Street in reference to a vehicle striking their building. While officers were responding to this call, a second call of shots being fired was dispatched in this same general area. Once officers arrived at the accident scene they determined that the driver of this vehicle, Carl Owen McWhirter, had been shot. Cleveland County EMS responded to the scene and transported McWhirter to Atrium Cleveland for treatment. Officers quickly determined that a suspect in

Camden Owen McWhirter this case was McWhirter’s grandson, Camden Owen McWhirter W/M DOB 2/2/1985. Camden was located across the street at his residence of 1201 S. Lafayette Street but refused to come out. Shelby PD Negotiators and Special

Response Team members responded to the scene. After negotiating with Camden for six and a half hours he came out of the residence without further incident. McWhirter was booked into the Cleveland County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. He is being held at this time without bond and has a first appearance later this morning. ■ POLICE INCIDENTS MARCH 17: A resident of Williams Street reported identity theft and fraud of a Belk’s charge card. WRECKS FEB. 22: Officer Chris Tate said that Kimberly Joan Moss, Clover, SC, operating a 2003 vehicle, rear-ended a 1997 Winn operated by Michael Woodroof of Kansas, Missouri. The accident happened at the stop light at the intersection of 161 South and East Gold Street. Moss was transported to the local hospital for treatment. Property damage was estimated at $8,000. FEB. 23: Officer M.D. Butler said that Aniaya Obria Jai Wilson, 600 Temple St., operating a 2005 Honda, lost control of her vehicle on US 74 and hit a ditch and overturned. The driver and passenger said a black car forced them off the road. Both occupants were transported to Cleveland Regional Hospital for treatment. Property damage was estimated at $7,000. MARCH 6: Officer M. D. Butler said that Cassie Danielle Medlin of Gastonia, operating a 2000 Chevrolet, struck a parked 2008 Honda owned by Thongkham Oulay, 105 Terrace Terrace. The accident happened in the parking lot of Hanes Brands, 705 Canterbury Road. Property damage was estimated at $1700. MARCH 9: Officer M. D.

Butler said that Johnny James Nichols of Clover, SC, operating a 2017 GMC, backed into a parked 2012 Dodge owned by Brittni Joanna England, 111 Liberty Court. The accident happened in the parking lot of Parker Hannifin, 101 Canterbury Road. MARCH 10: Officer H. W. Carpenter said that Jeffrey Louis Harston, of Asheville, operating a 2011 Toyota rear-ended a 2015 Ford operated by Johnny Conner, 810 Oak Grove road. The accident happened at the stop light at Countryside Drive on US 74 Business. Conner said that Harston asked him to pull his car over and then left the scene. Conner told the officer that he followed Harston to Stoney Point Road and got his tag number. Property damage was slight. MARCH 12: Officer Chris Tate said that Luis Eduardo Suarez, Grover, operating a 2004 Dodge, lost control of his vehicle on US 74 West and struck a tree driver. Property damage was estimated at $5,000. MARCH 13: Officer Josh Bryant said that Louise Davis Whitaker, 123 Wright Road, operating a 2014 Buick, backed into a 2004 Toyota operated by Brandy Renee Arnoldt, 1713 Kings Row Drive, Apt. 104. The accident happened in the child pickup drive at West School. Property damage was estimated at $2800. MARCH 13: Officer Chris

Tate said that Moris Timothy Griffin, Clover, SC, operating a 2005 Ford Mustang, sideswiped a 2006 Infinity operated by John Tyler Murray, 148 Siena Drive. The accident happened on NC 161 at 726 York Road. Property damage was estimated at $7,000. MARCH 16: Officer Josh Bryant said Nancy Mae Gregg, 711 Erskine drive, Apt. 7, operating a 2003 Buick, backed into a 2007 Honda operated by Dorothy McNeely Caps, 311 Bell Road, in the parking lot of Erskine Court. Property damage was estimated at $1700. MARCH 17: Officer Josh Bryant charged Christian Lynn Mercer, 206 N. Carpenter St., with DWI. Mercer was driving a 2010 Kia and struck a tree down a steep embankment on Bennett Street. Bryant said there was only slight damage to Mercer’s vehicle. MARCH 18: Officer F. L. Wittington said that the rider of a 1995 Bosch had his throttle cable to come loose causing his throttle to stick at full throttle. James William Abee, Clover, SC, operating a 1995 Bosch, rear-ended a 2012 Hyundai operated by Tanika McDaniel of Charlotte. The crash caused the rider to lay the bike down and the bike traveled another 40 feet down the roadway. Property damage was estimated at $30,000 to the Bosch owned by Joyce Wright of Clover, SC and $2500 to the McDaniel vehicle.
