The magnesium anode (also called a sacrificial anode) is a magnesium-coated steel rod, part of most electric water heaters.

The maximum useful life of the anode is three years. From the third year, it can lose all its effectiveness.

SULFATES

Therefore, these reactions can lead to an unpleasant rotten egg smell and taste in your water. Hydrogen sulfide can also be caused by bacteria colonizing your water heater.

The magnesium anode is screwed to the tank of the same electric thermos by the cover. Therefore, you access this part from the outside (rare) or the unit inside.

Empty the heater tank to the height of the magnesium anode and unscrew it. Then screw the replacement on by putting Teflon on the thread.

Refill the heater and plug it in.
