JUN K IM
Artistic Director
The Washington Chamber Orchestra (WCO) is a non-profit performing organization and 2019-2020 marks its sixth season, and we share a vision to make high-quality classical concerts more accessible to audiences of all age and diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. The WCO has performed in many different communities in Maryland, D.C, and Northern Virginia areas since it was founded in 2014, and we also had concerts to support people in the community. Each year, WCO invites numerous world-class soloists, including the winners of Chopin, Queen Elizabeth, Tchaikovsky Competitions etc... as the guest soloists. We wanted to reach out to more people with music, because we all believe in the value of classical music, which can influence people’s lives in so many positive ways. I am very grateful to present to you our new 2019-2020 season, with unique and exciting concert cycles, and the annual Benefit concert. Gold Medalist of the Van Cliburn Piano competition, Yekwon Sunwoo will be joining WCO to perform two piano concertos by Mendelssohn. Also, to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th Anniversary of his birth, WCO will perform Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony and Triple Concerto with the award winning rising star soloists, Cellist, Brannon Cho (Queen Elizabeth Competition Laureate), Violinist Brian Hong and Pianist Min Kwon (Gina Bachauer Award). In May, the winner of the 66th Washington International Competition, Young Soprano Amanda Palmeiro, joins us to perform concert opera arias, and not to mention, our chamber music performances by the outstanding musicians WCO, throughout the season. I guarantee that this will be another thrilling season. We look forward to sharing the season with you ! With a gratitude,
Jun Kim
