Director’s Note Where do we find inspiration? Artists who create great works draw on many resources. In this musical version of Xanadu, Sonny is helped by a muse from another world. Kira and her sisters intervene to help Sonny create his dream of a roller disco. He calls it an apex of the arts, something he didn’t think he could do until Kira gives him encouragement. Sometimes that encouragement is what allows us to take steps we’re a little afraid to take on our own. It reminds us that music, dancing, and art are better (and perhaps only exist) as they are shared. Xanadu is a creation, no one quite knows what it is until they find or create it. We invite you into this space that we’ve modified to become the round world of the disco. Wherever you sit, we hope you feel you are part of this world as you will be visible and surrounded in the creation. Xanadu is something mysterious that the characters create together but is meant to be shared with all who enter. We’re excited to share with you and hope that you might also be inspired to create your own Xanadu someday.
