Welcome to Paradise...

Our family has been coming to Paradise Valley since Dad bought 180 acres, then called the Rainbow Creek Ranch, from a Cowboy named CW Patrick in 2005. We have hosted an extended family reunion and nearly a dozen bachelor parties on the Hessert Ranchito. There is no better place to slow down, be awed by nature and spend time with friends outdoors.

Airlines + Car Rental 3322 RT 89 S Emigrant, MT

AIRPORT Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) is a 50 minute drive to the property.

CAR RENTAL You may enjoy having a car to explore Paradise Valley, Yellowstone Park, Livingston and the surrounding activities. If you are going to rent a car, make arrangements soon because rentals become very scarce for the summer months. If you do not rent a car, we can help arrange transportation to and from the airport. Turo is also a new option for the area.

Get on I-90 E from Gallatin Field Rd/Wings Way and Airway Blvd 6 min (2.0 mi) Follow I-90 E to US-89 S/Park St S in Livingston. Take exit 333 from I-90 E 29 min (33.0 mi) Turn left onto US-89 S Continue to follow US-89 S 19 min (19.5 mi) LOOK FOR GREY OWL FISHING ACCESS Turn Left at Fishing Access and follow road to the right through the parking area to the camp access.

We have arranged for glamping accommodations Thursday - Sunday for everyone who has marked an interest in glamping. If you are staying beyond those dates or if you do NOT want to glamp, you will need to arrange for your own accomodation.

Will the glamping be comfortable?

We are using an outfitter that specializes in luxurious encampments. Each canvas tent is 16' in diameter and comes with: King or 2 Twin Beds (+1 Cot Optional) Bedside tables Dimmable lanterns Fan 100% cotton sheets Canadian goose down duvet Wool blanket Luggage rack Cowhide rug

Inside your Lodge Tent, you'll find most of the amenities of a traditional hotel room, plus some extras to enhance your glamping experience: • Plush, cotton and goose down bedding on your King or Twin bed • Luggage rack and garment hooks • Side chair • USB battery pack to charge devices • Battery-powered lanterns to light your tent and pathways Bath house by Privvy with flushing toilets, hot showers, shampoo, conditioner, body wash.

• Freshly laundered bath towels • Lodge Tents furnished with 1 King or 2 Twin beds can also accommodate a camp cot bundle which includes a flannel lined sleeping bag and two full size pillows.

ABOUT THE BATHROOMS...

Privvy provides luxury off grid bathhouses complete with flushing toilet, hot shower, and porcelain sink. For your convenience we have outlined some key highlights for our guests:

Flushing Toilet: Please do not flush garbage down the toilet, this is the only bathroom on site and we would hate for it to become out of order. Kindly place all trash items in the provided wastebin.

Our loo is much like on a boat or RV, simply flush with your foot.

For ease of flush we recommend lining the toilet bowl with a few sheets of toilet paper before use.

Sink: The sink is pre-set to an enjoyable temperature.

The design of the sink is that it drains through the decking slats, it is possible that a little bit of water might splash near your feet – please watch your shoes!

Hot Shower: Our shower is arguably the best feature of the Privvy, with on demand hot water you are sure to enjoy the experience.

Simply hang your dry items on the provided hooks and pull the shower chain. The water might take up to 10 seconds to heat up, so be sure to stand to the side to avoid a cold surprise!

We recommend packing flip-flops or shower shoes when Privvys are provided for community use.

THE VALLEY WAS THE ROUTE TAKEN

BY EARLY YELLOWSTONE EXPEDITIONS AND THE ONLY RECOGNIZED ROUTE INTO THE PARK WHEN IT WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1872.

THE YELLOWSTONE RIVER FLOWS THROUGH THE VALLEY AND IS NOTED FOR WORLD-CLASS FLY FISHING IN THE RIVER AND NEARBY SPRING CREEKS SUCH AS DEPUY SPRING CREEK.

WHAT TO BRING

CLOTHES In wild places, you can expect the temperature to drop in the evening, so be sure to bring warmer clothes than you think you'll need!

• Casual clothing for hanging around the glampground and exploring town. • Trail-friendly clothing for hikes and outdoor adventures.

• Swimwear and a beach towel or sarong if you plan to visit nearby water features

LAYERS • Base layer (a.k.a. "long johns"), top and bottom for hiking, lounging, layering or wearing as pajamas.

• Raincoat or shell jacket to keep out wind and rain, as a light layer for chilly evenings, or added warmth over bulkier sweaters or fleece.

• Fleece, insulated jacket or vest for added warmth or layering under a raincoat or shell.

• Sweatshirt or sweater for cozy, casual warmth and layering.

SHOES & ACCESSORIES • Slippers or thick, warm socks for inside your tent.

• Trail shoes: depending on the forecast or what activities you have planned, you could bring waterproof hiking shoes, rain boots, nonwaterproof hiking shoes, or sneakers. Bottom line: something you can walk in and don't mind getting muddy.

• Casual shoes for walking about town, wearing around camp or out to dinner. • Sun hat to protect you from harmful rays.

GEAR • Water bottle to stay hydrated during your glamping adventures.

ENTERTAINMENT & TECHNOLOGY • Journal to document your stay and foraging finds.

• Phone, camera and chargers, so you can stay connected (but not too connected!) and capture your glamping experience.

NEARBY TOWNS

Livingston (25 miles) The quintessential western town full of cowboy bars, local restaurants and art galleries. It takes less than an hour to explore Main Street and it’s worth it. This old railroad town will transport you to another time.

Bozeman (45 miles) Home to the local airport, this is by far the largest town in the area. Bozeman is a fun place to spend half a day eating and visiting fun shops, local breweries and art galleries.

Emigrant (3 miles) More of an intersection than an actual town, Emigrant sits in the heart of Paradise Valley.

The Old Saloon is the main attraction but you’ll also find a bank, church, bakery, flyshop, hot springs, gas station and last but not least the General Store.

Gardiner (25 mile) This one road town turns into a rafting center during tourist season. Still, it is most known as the entranceway to Yellowstone Park, and is home to the iconic Roosevelt Arch.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES

Chico: This hotel built atop a hot spring in 1900 is a Montana institution and a must visit. The natural hot springs pool is open from 7 am - 11 pm daily.

Swim wristbands are required and can be purchased at the front desk. Towels can be rented as well. There is a shallow end for toddlers, a snack bar serving food and a bar at night. This family friendly pool is peaceful in the early morning and gets busier throughout the day.

Frisbee Golf: There is an 18-hole disc golf course located next to Chico. Discs are available for purchase in the Chico Gift Shop along with maps and scorecards.

Ball Golf: For the casual golfer there is a great public 9-hole course on the banks of the Yellowstone in Livingston. Rent clubs and play a round in a beautiful setting at the edge of town.

Horseback riding: Chico offers guided trail rides, horseback fly fishing adventures, horse drawn carriage rides and pony rides for kids. Contact Rockin’ HK Outfitters to learn more and make a reservation.

Yellowstone National Park:

Yellowstone is the first national park in the USA and attracts 4 million visitors each year. You don’t need to go deep into the park to see buffalo, elk, bear, antelope and more. All sorts of activities can be arranged in the park including hiking, camping and horseback riding. Deep Creek Outdoors can help you with booking activities or point you towards a popular trailhead. August is high season so expect crowds and slow traffic on the winding one-lane roads. The north entrance to Yellowstone Park is just 33 miles south in Gardiner. Passes are available at any park entrance or online at www.yourpassnow.com

Rafting and River Trips: Yellowstone River is the longest undamned river in the United States and is the center of fun in Paradise Valley. White water rafting trips start in Gardiner but there are plenty of options for scenic float trips to stand up paddling. Deep Creek Outdoors can help you with maps, guidance and/or guides.

Fishing: Yellowstone River is known worldwide for its blue ribbon trout fishing. There will be opportunities to fish right in front on site in the morning and evenings.

Boat trips and other guided excursions can be arranged by one of several local fly fishing outfitters.

Our favorite is Anglers West in Emigrant. There are also many alpine lakes and streams that face less fishing pressure for those who want to hike to the edge of the water.

HIKING

Whether you are looking for a nice walk or a serious hike, there are plenty of options to get in the woods. Deep Creek Outdoors can help you with maps, bear spray, guidance and/or guides. Some of our favorite hikes are: Sage Lodge Loop, Low Difficulty 3 mile or more loop leaving from behind the high-end Sage Lodge with beautiful views (link here) Pine Creek Falls, Low-Medium Difficulty 2.5 mile round trip hike through the woods to arrive at a scenic waterfall (link here) Emigrant Peak, High Difficulty Intense 7.6 mile round trip hike to summit this 10,900 ft peak for views across Paradise Valley (link here)

RESTAURANTS

Campione Livingston This is the best new option in town for wood fired pizza and Italian dishes. Open for dinner and weekend brunch.

Gil’s Goods An easy drop-in cafe for a casual meal in Livingston. They’ll let you bring your food next door to the Murray Bar to accompany a local brew from over the hill in Red Lodge.

Stockman’s Livingston An old time western restaurant good for steak and potatoes.

Known for Prime Rib special on Wednesday nights.

Marks In and Out Livingston Old fashioned burger stand in Livingston with tasty food and very family friendly. Open for lunch and dinner. Picnic tables available in a park across the street for eating.

Sage Lodge Emigrant High end hotel with two restaurants on property and beautiful views. Open for all meals. Reservations strongly recommended.

Follow Yer Nose BBQ Emigrant Authentic BBQ and major Emigrant attraction. Open for lunch and dinner.

Wildflower Bakery Emigrant Coffee shop and bakery that’s also a local favorite. Open mornings starting at 7 am.

Chico Coffee shop, pool snack bar and fine dining restaurant.

Reservations strongly recommended for the fine restaurant.

Iron Horse Bar and Grill - Gardiner This is a nice stop if you’re on the edge of the Park, a western burger bar with nice seating above the Gardiner River.

BARS

Old Saloon, Emigrant Visit the old salon to step back in time to the Wild West.

Founded in 1910, this bar draws crowds for its concerts but still retains its cowboy charm. Live music most nights. Also serves good breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Chico, Emigrant Another lively bar with a mixed crowd, shuffleboard and live music every night of the week. Bring your bathing suit and you can take your drinks in to the hot springs pool but you won’t be alone.

Pine Creek This is a little bar on a quiet road in between Livingston and Emigrant. Good food, fun crowd and notable live music acts including John Mayer occasionally.

The Mint, Livingston Busy bar in downtown Livingston where they always have a live poker game going on in a backroom. Anybody can join in on the game if you’re lucky enough to find an open seat.

The Murray, Livingston The number one after dark destination in Livingston located inside the historic Murray Hotel across from the railroad station. Come for live music and lively dancing. Also serves dinner.

The Owl, Livingston There are a lot of great bars in Livingston. This is another one.

IDEAS FOR KIDS

Horses Rockin HK Outfitters can arrange for kid friendly horse experiences. Trail rides 1 hour to overnight are available for kids 8 yrs and up. Pony experience for kids 4 yrs and up includes learning, grooming a horse and a pony ride.

Yellowstone Park Take a half day trip in to Yellowstone, stop and walk around Mammoth Hot Springs and drive another hour in to the Lamar Valley where you will see breathtaking landscapes and (fingers crossed) lots of wildlife. Roadway congestion gets bad with the summer crowds so we recommend early morning or evening. Expand the time in Yellowstone with an outdoor excursion or overnight at one of the historic lodges (reservations required). All ages.

Grizzly Bears Don’t worry if you miss the Grizzly Bear sighting in Yellowstone. The Grizzly experience is halfway between Bozeman and Livingston just off the highway. It’s worth the 15 minute detour to see their rescued grizzly bears. All ages.

Swimming at Chico

Go first thing in the morning and you will have a freshly filled pool nearly to yourself. As the day goes on, families and other groups pile in. It’s fun all day long and in to the night. All ages.

Hiking Family friendly hikes are available from both Chico Hot Springs and Sage Lodge or a slightly more strenuous option to visit Pine Creek Falls. Please bring bear spray on any wilderness hikes which is available at any outfitters, fly shop or gas station. All ages.

Rafting The river is typically low in August so the white rapids are more family friendly.

Kayaking or rafting trips can be coordinated through any number of river outfitters in Gardiner or through Deep Creek Outfitters. Call for minimum weight and age.
