ALUMNI In Service to Our Country
We are proud to recognize some of our alumni who have entered the military and continue to serve in various capacities across the world. Join us in celebrating and acknowledging their dedicated service to our country:
ANTHONY YOUNGBLOOD ‘93
EDWARD GRIFFIS ‘97
is a Lieutenant in the United States Navy currently stationed in San Diego, California as the Cryptologic Readiness Officer at United States Third Fleet. Prior to that he served as the Information Warfare Officer aboard USS HIGGINS (DDG-76) where he completed an operational tour while deployed at sea in the Persian Gulf that was highlighted by a successful Tomahawk missile strike against chemical weapons facilities in Syria.

Other assignments included a tour at the National Security Agency (NSA) Headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland where he worked cyberspace missions and, coming up in 2023, he has orders to the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Headquarters in Chantilly, Virginia in which he will focus on the U.S. Navy’s outer space satellite capabilities.
Anthony is also a graduate of The Haverford School, Howard University, and earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife Lauren are the proud parents of two sons Anthony Jr. and Ashton.
LCDR Griffis ‘97 has served on active duty in the Navy for over 13 years. Commissioned as a JAG Corps Officer, he has served on both coasts of the United States and was deployed twice to the Middle East. In 2012-2013, he deployed to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, and more recently completed a deployment at sea in 2020 with the Harry S Truman Strike Group in the Arabian Sea.
Another personal highlight for him was serving on staff at the Naval Academy from 2013-2017. A graduate of St. Joseph’s Prep, Ed attained a BA from Georgetown, a JD from Rutgers, and an LLM from Georgetown. He is currently stationed in Jacksonville, FL with his new bride, Bethany.
