Dear Wake Forest School of Business Supporters, Innovation is at the forefront of business today. It is what drives our economy and keeps us competitive in an ever-changing world. From leading-edge curricula developed by our exceptional faculty to strategic collaborations with industry partners, we continuously seek to innovate in our pursuit of excellence. I have been fortunate enough to know the quality and success of Wake Forest University for many years, first as a native North Carolinian, then as a faculty member more than 20 years ago, and now most recently as Dean. Our commitment to delivering the highest standard of education, and pursuing scholarship that matters, is unwavering. As we continue to collectively build upon a foundation as one of the nation’s top business schools, we do so in the spirit of Pro Humanitate — for humanity — in all we do. We are proud to offer a comprehensive business education that is academically rigorous and experientially rich, nurtures young leaders, and generates thought leadership on topics that matter most to industry. Alumni Council The School’s Alumni Council currently consists of 38 active Alumni who live across the country and represent all Business degree programs. In 2023, the Alumni Council assisted the School in three focus areas: matching graduating students with alumni in their new city, bringing alumni within an industry together for networking and other learning opportunities, and helping our Market Readiness and Employment team connect students with alumni for advice, mentorship, and employment opportunities.

Program Advisory Councils Our program-specific boards and councils - such as the Accounting Advisory Council, MSBA Market Insights Board, and MSM Market Insights Board - are crucial links to strengthen the connection between the School and the marketplace. These groups help to further advance the School’s mission by providing guidance and market insights to evolve curricular and co-curricular offerings, foster student, alumni, and corporate engagement, and provide support to help our students obtain employment.

Center for Analytics Impact The Wake Forest Center for Analytics Impact is focused on the impactful use of analytics to solve problems in business and society through research that examines the role of analytics to improve organizational effectiveness, practical educational opportunities for students and working professionals, and mutually beneficial industry partnerships.

Center for the Study of Capitalism

The Center for the Study of Capitalism connects the business community, faculty scholars, thought leaders and students to foster a better understanding of capitalism and its role in a fast-changing, technologically driven world.

Pro Humanitate: For The Forest, For The World. ESG@Wake encourages students to learn more about the role of environmental, social and governance challenges in the future of business. Undergraduate and graduate students from all Wake Forest academic programs are invited to submit bold ideas for cash prizes. $70,000 has been distributed to students to implement solutions ranging from increased use of solar energy on campus to supporting greater access and equity through a food co-op.

The annual Wake Forest Conference on Analytics Impact, sponsored by the Center for Analytics Impact, brings together renowned business experts and academic thought leaders in data analytics and sciences to explore different topics surrounding ethical data analytics research and education.

Walk around Winston Fair

Walk around Winston Fair The Calloway Leadership Experience organized a unique initiative to unite local businesses and nonprofits with Wake Forest students. Through the Walk around Winston fair, students brought attention to small business owners in search of new customers within the student body, ultimately looking to foster a connection between the university and the vibrant Winston-Salem community.

School of Business graduate programs ‘hit the bricks’ for cancer research

Hit the Bricks

Graduate teams from the Wake Forest School of Business participated in Hit the Bricks, sprinting laps around Hearn Plaza to raise money for cancer research. The Hit the Bricks tradition was started by two Wake Forest students in 2003 to support the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, which supports patients and their families at the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Black-Owned Business Market hosted by the Wake Forest School of Business in partnership with the Intercultural Center The Black-Owned Business Market featured a variety of local vendors from the arts to wellness. The event is hosted in honor of Black History Month, to highlight local entrepreneurs and provide and oppurtunity for Wake Forest students, faculty, and staff to support and connect with the black-owned business community.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion Creating a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environment for the Wake Forest Business School Community requires our collective commitment to live by values that upload the dignity and humanity of every person. In partnership with the University, the Wake Forest School of business launched in 2020 R.I.D.E., Realizing Inclusion, Diversity and Equity to ensure a learning environment where: Diversity is appreciated, cultivated, and effectively leveraged in ways that affirm the inherent value in differences of identity, and individual intersections of identities. Inclusion is prioritized, to enable individuals and groups, particularly those historically marginalized, to feel a sense of full belonging and more equitable access to support and opportunities. Values for multiculturalism and intercultural effectiveness are taught, developed, and celebrated as key elements of effective business leadership in today’s marketplace.

R.I.D.E Celebrations and Events LGBTQ Marketing: Understanding the Community Better The School of Business Lunch and Learn for faculty and staff featuring speaker, researcher, and consultant in marketing and inclusion Dr. Joanna Schwartz, professor of marketing at Georgia College & State University presented to School of Business faculty and staff.

The Changing Dynamics of a DEI Culture George Herrera, former President and CEO of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, visited the School of Business to discuss the changing dynamics of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the business world.

Business Strategies in Fulfilling our Mission to the LGBTQ Community: Representatives from Novant Health shared insights on how the organization has adapted their business strategy to create tangible change in patient care for the LGBTQ community.

Intercultural Skills Workshop: Conflict Styles in Cultural Context Matt Imboden, Chief Student Services Officer, offered insight into the power of intercultural skills and communication at a workshop held on conflict styles.

Lunar New Year Celebration MSBA students organized a Lunar New Year celebration to usher in the new year. The event featured interactive workshops, food, and some traditional activities associated with the turn of the year.

Growing Awareness, Access, & Engagement We are building our business school community to reflect the diversity of the world around us. WakeABLE (Achieving Business Leadership Equity)

This pre-orientation program is designed to equip undergraduate students who value inclusivity with key business and professional development oppourtunities.

Bridge2Business

This program is open to first-year undergraduate students during their second semester at Wake Forest, and is designed to elevate students’ awareness of career pathways in business and business-related fields through a series of activities and workshops. Highlights and areas of focus include: building a personal brand, goal setting, career coaching, market treks, internship opportunities, and alumni networking.

Inclusion Weekend

This two-day weekend introduces college junior and seniors from underrepresented groups to careers in business and explores how a master’s degree in management or business analytics can prepare them for a wide range of future career opportunities.

Three program formats and two campus options In-person, online and the new hybrid MBA program formats across campuses in Winston-Salem and Charlotte, NC provide working professionals flexible options to earn a top-ranked MBA. The new hybrid program offers 60% of the course in-person on select saturdays at our Charlotte campus, and 40% asynchronously online.

Wake Forest MBA Students in the Community Wake Forest University’s MBA Program in Charlotte and the School of Professional Studies are collaborating for the 2023 Pro Humanitate days. MBA members will use their skills to help mentor and aid member of Philips Academy in Charlotte. Philips Academy is a non-profit school for teens and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities providing a life-centered approach to education.

The Master of Science in Business Analytics program offers an immersive experience in two program formats — an on-campus, 10-month option for recent graduates, and an online option for working professionals that can be completed in as few as 20 months. The goal of each program is to blend applied statistics, management science, and business domain knowledge to grow leaders who use data to solve the challenges of business and positively impact society. Learning Labs Our Center for Analytics Impact provides access to live, real-time data from retailers such as CVS Health and Lowes Foods. This exclusive resource enables MSBA students to analyze large data sets, master data mining and predictive modeling, and formulate actionable insights to corporate partners. MSBA Practicum Project A key focus of the Wake Forest MSBA is the application of analytics skills learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios. This happens regularly in class, but is fully brought to life in the Practicum Project. Students work under the direction of a faculty mentor to identify a real-world project involving the use of analytics to assist a client organization in decision-making. Both on-campus and online students receive support in identifying a corporate partner for their project, but online students also have the flexibility to choose the organization in which they work as their client. In the end, students develop a full grasp of defining problem scope, data requirements, expected deliverables, the analytical techniques necessary to provide those deliverables, summarizing their analysis and findings, and presenting their recommendations to the client.

Julie Wayne, Ph.D. studies issues related to challenges created by changing demographics and roles of men and women in society. She has published research on sexual harassment, the workfamily interface, and workgroup diversity. Rather than a focus on conflict, she studies how work and family can benefit one another and factors that promote work-family balance. Wayne received the Responsible Research in Management Award at the Academy of Management Conference – the annual award recognizes and celebrates recent research that benefits society by producing credible and useful knowledge. 2021 Single Year Impact of research scientists across the world according to a Stanford University study

SEAN HANNAH

Sean Hannah, Ph.D. studies leader development, exemplary leadership and its positive effects, character and behavioral ethics, strategic thinking and the building of high performing teams. Hannah has published over 70 papers, including in premier management and applied psychology journals, and is editor and co-author of the second edition of Leadership in Dangerous Situations – a comprehensive guide to help military, emergency, and first responders face the psychological, social and physical challenges in leading in dangerous environments. Stacie Petter, Ph.D. studies the impacts of information systems to individuals, organizations, and society. For instance, she has published research regarding how information technology can be used to counter human trafficking, how gamification and online games can provide value in organizational settings, and how an individual’s personal identity with information technology can affect their use of technology in personal or business settings. Petter’s research has been prominently featured in MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, and various other information systems publications.
