BRYAN SHEPHERD AND SIMON HOGG OUTSIDE JARDEN’S NEW MASTERTON PREMISES.
Steering your financial investments with a steady, experienced hand
These fractious times have highlighted the importance of looking after your money and investing wisely. Covid 19, interest rate rises, a low New Zealand dollar and international trade tensions have all reflected the importance of getting sound financial advice. “Having clear investment goals, and a strong plan can help investors navigate through uncertain periods,” says Bryan Shepherd, Jarden Director and Wealth Management Adviser. Bryan says there are many factors that can influence investments, and he builds personal relationships with his clients to understand and aim towards their priorities – many of them live within the Wairarapa region. They range from those looking to save for the future, or wanting to retire well and future-proof for generations to come, as well as farmers looking to build off-farm wealth. “We seek to genuinely partner with our clients, to understand what’s important to them and the lifestyle they want to have. It’s about striking a balance over time,” says Bryan. Jarden is New Zealand’s leading investment and advisory group. Jarden looks after more than 50,000 Kiwis, helping them work towards their financial goals. Their local teams offer services including tailored financial advice, and full management of investment portfolios, backed by Jarden’s market-leading research. Jarden has been helping individuals in Wairarapa with their investments for years, and the region is one of New Zealand’s fastest growing. Bryan Shepherd, along with colleague Simon Hogg have been on the ground, and, up until recently, based out of Jarden’s Wellington office. Jarden is now opening an office in Masterton at 186 Chapel Street. “It’s been a much anticipated and exciting move,” says Simon, who was born and bred in Masterton and continues to have family links in the region. “I’m looking forward to strengthening and building upon our relationships in the community.” Masterton district’s population in 2020 was 27,500, up from 23,500 in 2009. It is expected to grow to 30,500 by 2031. The region’s proximity to Wellington and the increasing trend of people being able to work from home is meaning Wairarapa is a great attraction. “We’ve enjoyed seeing the community grow from strength-tostrength over the years, and speaking with our clients about the new businesses popping up,” says Simon. Bryan has a BBS/BA and a GDip in Business Studies and Financial Planning from Massey University. He is an NZX Adviser and a Certified Financial Planner. He has more than 30 years’ experience in financial services. Simon has two decades of experience in the financial markets, including five years in London working for Deutsche Bank and Macquarie Group. He is a Financial Adviser, NZX Adviser, and has a BBS from Massey University. Bryan and Simon enjoy the long-term commitment to clients that is adopted across Jarden. “We all genuinely seek to go above-and-beyond, there’s a collaborative culture among the team – which fits perfectly for our clients,” says Bryan.
