Bumper sales of a tried-and-true brand

Covid-19 has not stopped Brent and Tracey Cooper, and the staff at Wairarapa Mitsubishi, celebrating their best year in business yet. Brent enthusiastically points out Mitsubishi leads the way in vehicle sales – being #1 brand, #1 in Ute sales (the Triton) and #1 in car sales locally year to date. The Mastertonbased dealership is one of eight Mitsubishi Diamond Dealers in New Zealand in 2020. The Diamond Dealer Award recognises outstanding performance in every aspect of a business – sales, customer satisfaction, finance, service, parts sales, and vehicle presentation. This is not the first time Wairarapa Mitsubishi has featured in the national awards, Brent winning the Managing Director of the Year Award in 2017. This came only two years after buying the former long-standing McKenzie Motors in Masterton. Brent is a former diesel mechanic from Eketahuna who ran his own business there for 10 years. These days he’s turning heads in the car dealership world. Brent says his team of 20 all play a major part in creating a great service. The office staff know each customer by name, the parts team keep everything well stocked, and the groomers and yardmen keep vehicles and the forecourt looking well-presented and tidy. Wairarapa Mitsubishi has been on a sharp upward curve ever since the Coopers took over the business in 2015. In years gone by, the dealership was McKenzie Motors and before that Sharples. Brent attributes part of their current success to the Triton Ute, the top selling utility vehicle in Wairarapa for the past two years. “The Triton is one of the best Utes on the market and is a top brand sold in New Zealand in recent years.” All up Mitsubishi has seven vehicle models from which to choose from.
Brent concedes lockdowns do impact business, but people appear to have spare money, usually spent maybe overseas, and they are looking towards upgrading their vehicles instead. Farmers are also very aware of the quality of the Triton and are loyal to the brand.
For Brent and his team, there’s no greater satisfaction than seeing a customer drive off in their new Mitsubishi. “Models like Mirage, Lancer and Galant are all names which slip off the tongue and are memorable family cars. It’s a great reliable brand and it’s great to see it forging ahead.” “No one knows the future, but rest assured, we will be giving the same high level of service to customers for years to come.”
