WAIRARAPA MOANA TRUST
Due to the lengthy business discussed at the Incorporation meeting the Annual General Meeting of the Trust did not commence until 4.51pm. Those who remained were acknowledged for their patience given the long day that had eventuated. They were provided with an update on the Trust’s activities over the past year.
Tame Matiaha provided an update on Marae Development. Discussion culminated in a motion to seek the reinstatement of the Marae Development grant which was deferred in 2009 due to the economic recession.
Pani Himona highlighted the activities associated with the Moanatanga portfolio. The Wairarapa Moana exhibition was extremely successful and the publication of a book has been commissioned; annual sponsorship continues to the Golden Shears; and a contemporary waiata booklet is to be compiled.
Lynnette Whata proudly announced that all twelve trade training and apprenticeship scholarships were successfully distributed this year and that a scholarship with Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre is being progressed.
Lynnette Whata was delighted to introduce Naomi-Rose Aporo, a past Wairarapa Moana Trust scholarship recipient, who gave a presentation on her academic journey, employment history and the support of her wha¯nau during her journey.
Trust Chair, Henare Manaena, reported that the Trust ended the year with a small surplus of $5,067. However, the endof-year balances show a healthy financial position with assets of $269,169 exceeding liabilities of $10,172.
This year Pani Himona retired by rotation from the Trust and was not available to re-stand. Nominations were called and the vacancy was filled by Justina Webster. With a further trustee position vacant, nominations were called from the floor to fill the remaining term of Diane Rewi who had resigned recently. This position was filled by NaomiRose Aporo. Congratulations to Justina and Naomi, who coincidentally are both past scholarship recipients.
Points of clarification regarding the proposed ordinary resolution relating to financial support to Te Rangimarie Marae were heard. It was agreed, by attendees, that the proposed resolution was dealt with in the Incorporation meeting and as such was no longer required to be dealt with by the Trust. The second proposed ordinary resolution relating to funding to Pouakani Marae was withdrawn.
With the Trust time having been reduced by an hour-and-ahalf, trustees did considerably well to get through their work, but their day was not yet over. As part of the Moanatanga portfolio, the Trust held a Waiata ta¯whito / Whakanga¯hau wa¯nanga at Papawai Marae which concentrated on the Nau Mai Taku Kura Mokopuna song book and the Wairarapa national anthem, Ko Wairarapa Te¯nei.
The expected 90+ that registered to attend failed to reach 20. None-the-less it was easy to concentrate on a small number of keen enthusiasts which made the wa¯nanga easy and enjoyable for everyone.
