WAIRARAPA MOANA INCORPORATION

As tears from Ranginui moistened the ground outside, inside Hikurangi whare Wairarapa Moana shareholders and their wha¯nau gathered to celebrate the commencement of their participation in the 2011 AGM proceedings.

The mihi whakatau was followed by the dedication and unveiling of the plaque to commemorate the signing of the Deeds to Lake Wairarapa with Crown representatives that led to the exchange for the Pouakani Block at Mangakino on the 13th January 1896. The dedication was led by Archdeacon Hariata Tahana.

On the Saturday morning, buses left Kuranui College to visit Kehemene, Jury’s Island and Papawai Marae, the tour concluding at Kuranui College in time for lunch. A booklet of historical information was compiled in relation to the sites for the tour and a copy can be requested from the office.

The Incorporation AGM commenced at 12.30pm. Te Horipo Karaitiana presented the financial accounts followed by a strategic update on the year’s activities.

The proposed regular dividend of $400,000 plus a special dividend of $800,000 to be paid tax free was put to the meeting and approved. The distribution will be made to shareholders during the first week of December.

As there were no other nominations for the rotational vacancies, Ron Mark and Te Horipo Karaitiana were returned unopposed to the Committee of Management. Congratulations!

Presentations for and against the proposed ordinary resolutions and points of clarification were heard prior to shareholder voting. A summary of the outcome follows.

Agenda items 7.2 and 7.3 That Pouakani Marae Trust receives no funding from WMI was LOST

Agenda item 7.4 To build a new whare hui on Pouakani farm lands was LOST

Agenda item 7.5 To approve financial support to Te

Rangimarie Marae was APPROVED

Agenda item 7.1 An amendment to fund $30,000 for

Pouakani Marae carvings was APPROVED.

Matters relating to the Treaty of Waitangi Claim, Wai 85, was presented by John Stevens. The three issues, (a), (b), (c), as detailed on a separate information sheet provided with the Notices of Meetings booklet were APPROVED.

Next year’s Annual General Meetings are scheduled to be held in Masterton on October 27, 2012.

The Committee of Management would like to thank all those involved with the preparation and support of the AGMs. To our shareholders and wha¯nau who attended, your participation during the weekend is very much valued. A special thank you to Libby Matthews and the Papawai Marae team who supported the kaupapa by providing accommodation, meals and hospitality to our wha¯nau on Friday and Saturday nights. A special thank you to Peter Rewi, Aunty Niniwa Munro, Diane Rewi, Murray Hemi, Malcolm Mulholland, Carlene Te Tau, and Rutu Namana for sharing the history of the area during the sites of significance tour. Thank you all. A huge job well done and much appreciated.
