WHB TWINNING ASSOCIATION
~ at the heart of our community ~
We had an excellent visit with our Twinning friends in La Pommeraye and Montjean -sur -Loire in August, some meeting old friends and others making new ones. Our stopover en route was also very successful with a great guided tour of Rouen cathedral and nearby sights. We had a “petit train” ride round Angers, some people also visited its famous chateau, we watched a show at the “Cadre Noir” national French military riding school in Saumur and toured the nearby ancient caves with their wonderful light shows, we were, of course, well wined and dined, visited our usual local vineyard to taste and buy and, all the time, enjoying the fabulous hospitality of our French hosts. We have a lot to live up to next year.
Our next event is one of our popular Quiz and Supper evenings on 11 October in Wroxham St Mary ’s Church Hall. Get your teams of six ready, everyone, and book your table very soon for a fun evening: only twelve tables available. We will be raising funds, as usual, to entertain our French visitors next year. Thursday 6th November is our AGM, a little bit of business but also a social occasion to chat, drink wine and view a photo show of our French adventures. As usual, we are organising a Post -Christmas Dinner, date to be confirmed in January.

EAST ANGLIA’S
CHILDREN’S HOSPICES
Young volunteers have the chance to learn new skills, boost their confidence and help a worthy cause by sparing time to support East Anglia’s Children ’s Hospices (EACH). The charity provides care for children and families across the region and has 54 shops, including new premises in Castle Street, Norwich. It is one of 20 stores in Norfolk, in addition to EACH’s busy Retail Distribution Centre, in Thetford. Volunteers are always welcome to join the friendly team, including students looking to complete volunteering hours for their Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards.
Anyone aged 14 to 24 can get in touch by popping into their local shop or emailing volunteerservices@each.org.uk
“Volunteering is a fantastic way to build new skills and confidence, as well as helping a worthy cause in the community,” said Scarlett Farnell, EACH’s Volunteer Services Partner for Norfolk.
“It’s fun and rewarding, with different roles to suit people’s skills and interests. I’ d encourage anyone keen to get involved to find out more.
”
To check the list of shops, and find the one closest to you, head to www.each.org.uk/our -shops
EACH’s new store in Castle Street opened on 14th August. Ben Harwood, a teenager living with a rare genetic disorder, took centre stage after cutting the ribbon.
The 18 -year -old had been receiving care for 13 years and benefitted from short breaks at The Nook, in Framingham Earl. He enjoyed the last of those during the week of the shop opening and now transitions to adult hospice care, after celebrating his milestone birthday in June.
The shop launched its Autumn/ Winter range of clothing on Monday, 8th September.
Meanwhile, EACH is also on the lookout for people to join its fantastic team of Help at Home volunteers.
Volunteers are matched with the family of a child receiving care. They then have an opportunity to provide vital practical support with things like gardening, shopping, cooking, vacuuming, dusting, washing, ironing and dog -walking. Other roles include looking after pets and sibling support, including helping children and young people with their homework.
For more information about the service, email volunteerservices@each.org.uk

WROXHAM AND HOVETON LIONS CLUB
The Wroxham Village Charity Fete took place on Sunday 3 rd August. The weather, always critical to outdoor events was kind up until 1.00 pm, when the heavens opened and it poured with rain, accompanied by thunder, for about fifteen minutes. Long enough for some of our visitors and stall holders, as well as classic cars and their owners, to get rather wet. However, after that little demonstration, the rain stopped, the clouds blew away, and weak sunshine returned. From my position at the entrance to the Village Hall selling admission tickets, the event was very well supported by residents and holiday makers, so a big thank you to all those who turned up. Many of the Craft Stall holders reported that they had had a good day, thanks also go to them. Local author Alli Carter said she had beaten her record for selling her
crime novels and was well pleased with her day.
Lion Andy Speight of Wroxham and Hoveton Lions Club presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Gary and Eddie Firmin, aka the Countryside Litter Pickers, for their work in keeping the surrounding areas as free from litter as they can make it. They were pleased to be recognised for their community spirit and willingness to keep our land litter free. Keep up the good work lads! Here are some photos of the day. More news next month! If any of you feel that they would like to join us in raising money for deserving local causes and can spare a few hours a month, do get in touch with us, via our website www.wroxhamandhovetonlions.org where you will find details of the club and how to volunteer.

WROXHAM FOOTBALL CLUB
Now 6 weeks into the new season and we find ourselves 7th in the table with 7 points from a possible 12. A good start and a huge advance on start to the last season. Sadly, we have already been knocked out of the FA Cup and FA Trophy. It is of course, very early days but the signs are very promising with our new signings bedding in well and 18 -year -old James Moore has already scored 3 goals. Our performances against WalTues 30 thamstow and Downham Town were excellent and earned maximum points with 2 -1 & 3 -1 victories respectively. Against Walthamstow, we scored in the 1st and 95th minutes to gain the win. Never a dull moment at The Ginger Pickle Arena at Trafford Park! We had 356 fans for the FA Cup replay Vs. Fakenham Town to witness our 2 -0 triumph. Nights like that help the club coffers no end but as always it is nip and tuck financially to ensure we can continue to compete at Step 4. With possibly the smallest playing budget in division, maintaining a solid mid table position
throughout the season is frankly a huge achievement but Manager Jordan Southgate is aiming to be in or around the playoff places come the seasons end. We have 7 home games in September and October and again we would urge to come along and enjoy the football and a warm welcome along with a fine selection of Woodforde’s Ales and the best burgers on The Broads.

Welcome… to the latest edition of THE WROXHAM & COLTISHALL BOOK
Over the years, we’ve had lots of appreciative messages for our magazines from clients and residents; for which, we are hugely grateful. “Thank you!” - it’s a real team effort. So, what’s happening during October and November?
Well, the clocks go back 1 hour on 26th October, we have School Half Term, Halloween and Fireworks Night, which means we’ll need to wrap up well and keep warm. Hats, coats, jumpers, boots, gloves and scarves suddenly become highly desirable items in the weeks ahead, don’t they?
