The Batmobile, made in 1966, had been the sole property of its creator, legendary car customizer George Barris. He is also known for creating the Munster Koach and the Beverly Hillbillies’ car.

Are Antiques and Collectibles Price Books A Must Have for Buyers, Sellers? The 2014 editions of Kovels’ Antiques and Collectibles Price Guide ($27.95), Warman’s Antiques & Collectibles ($29.99), and Antique Trader Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide ($22.99) are now out and are for sale. But are they worth it any more when compared to free online price guide websites? Price guide books offer an abundance of information and photos that can help buyers and sellers make a deal, but

today's savvy shoppers and buyers now rely on their smart phones to instantly search for price and information from sites like eBay, antiques. lovetoknow.com and antiqforum.com when looking something up. Like today's telephone directories, large paperback price books are heavy, cumbersome and are being replaced by online instant access. Bottom Line: An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Hans Sachs Rare Poster Collection Sells at Guernsey’s The talk of the vintage poster market was the January sale at Guerney's Auction House of the first of three separate sales of thousands of rare collectible posters seized by the Nazis from collector Dr. Hans Sachs in 1938. Recently

returned to Peter Sachs, the son of Dr. Hans Sachs, Guernsey’s auctioned 1,233 lots of the more than 4,000 posters recently retrieved from Germany after seven long years of legal battles initiated by the Sachs family. The first group of posters from the collection was auctioned to the public over the course of three days, fetching approximately $2.5 million dollars. Top-selling lots included: Kunstsalon Aktuaryus circa 1900, by an anonymous artist known only by the initials E.L., for $57,950; Moderne Galerie circa 1901 by Fritz Behn for $30,500; Arche Noah circa 1913 by Hermann Keimel for $27,450; Margertittentag circa 1911 by Wilhelm Hartz for $27,450; and Künstlerhaus Jahresausstellung circa 1919 by Karl Sterrer for $24,400. Up next: Hans Sachs Poster Collection Auction II and III.

Flea Market Find Sells for $34,700 An Odenwald, Germany flea market shopper bought a small brochure for $6.50 last summer and later learned it was a rare find. The 1912 Die Brücke exhibition catalogue sold at a Ketterer Kunst auction in November for $34,700. The brochure contains 10 original woodcuts by Max Pechstein, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel and Otto Mueller. Die Brücke “The Bridge” was a German artists’ group formed in 1905. The group aimed to discover new methods of artistic expression and to “free themselves from the traditional academic style of the time.”

On the Lookout for the Monkey Wrench Gang

Edward Abbey’s 1975 first edition of The Monkey Wrench Gang, is extremely coveted by book collectors and investors. The fictional tale of a band renegade activists set out to sabotage the developers who are taking over their southern Utah desert landscape, continues to inspire environmentalists.

Lewis H. “Dude” Larsen Postcards are Popular And Affordable Lewis H. "Dude" Larsen, 1909-1997, was a Utah cowboy, poet, state senator and he published a book on his New Age spiritual leanings, titled, Universal Law of Man. He is best remembered for his western art that he created with his wife, Dot. Together they produced more than 75 postcards based on their paintings. His cowboy poetry is regarded as a bit hokey but genuinely sincere for it's attempt to capture the passing Old West lifestyle he witness as a young boy. It was a lifestyle that meant so much to him. Today, Larsen's postcards are popular and affordable. They can be found in many Utah vintage resale stores or they can be purchased off eBay. They can sell for as low as a $1 to $12. Signed postcards can fetch a little more. The postcard shown above is titled Trail of Life and it was the second postcard produced by Larsen in 1939.

A signed edition by Abbey can fetch up to $2,500. You can pick up a copy at Ken Sanders Rare Books in Salt Lake City.

2002 Olympic Green Jell-O Pin is a Bust

Antique Powder Casks

U.S. Civil War Images The Green Jell-O pin was the biggest pin sensation at the 2002 “Mormon Olympics" in Salt Lake City. Throughout the Games, the kooky pins were being sold for as high as $200. Today, they can be had for as little as $20 from most pin dealers in Utah or on the Internet. In fact, most 2002 Olympic pins are now selling for as low as $5 or less. However, if you had a good time collecting these pins, then that is all that matters. It is not always about the money when it comes to collecting stuff. If you don't believe it, you can ask any Beanie Baby collector how they feel over the money they spent on their collection of the furry critters.

Ugly Trailer Antiques

Page 7

By Robert Zamaro

The most popular store selling antiques and collectibles in Utah today is a place called Ugly Trailer Antiques in Hurricane - or is that "Hur-ah-kan?" All the attention and inquiries store owners, Fred and Sue Thomas have received after appearing on the History Channel's popular television show, "Pawn Stars" last year could be attributed to the name of their business: Ugly Trailer Antiques. It is a most unlikely name for an antiques business, but it is a name pegged to the remnants of an old patched up trailer that's parked out front of Fred's store. The store's general appearance can easily draw an extra look and an urge to stop-in to see what treasures might be found inside when passing by. But Fred's best attention-getter is the old rusty heap of scrap metal out front that draws the most people into his store. It can make some people smile when they see it for the first time. Fred likes to think his business

name may have inspired the producers of "Pawn Stars" to choose his store to be included in a segment that follows one of the show's star, Rick Harrison, as he travels through Utah on his way to last year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. One memorable moment of the segment, and which aired on Nov. 5, came when, after Fred and Harrison reached a deal on an antique Samurai

helmet, Fred tells Harrison, "Let's go write it up." Harrison's reply: "Usually I say that." You have to know the show to get it. Another good moment

was when Harrison informs Fred the helmet is worth $2,500, a far higher price than the $300 price tag Fred had on it. The most surprising part of the deal was the price Harrison paid for the helmet. It was a deal that surely made the owner of the consignment item very happy. Harrison is shown walking away with the helmet saying he could re-sell the helmet quickly. View the episode on our website: ReadTheWAC.com. Like Harrison, most folks will like the eclectic merchandise of Fred's store. Shoppers will enjoy looking around to see what might be found there. The 22,000 square-foot store has a lot of everything inside of it. Sue says most shoppers come in and stay for hours looking for treasures. The building was once the town's jail, so there are remnants of its past in the store's decor. An old jail cell is now a restroom. Fred says his time on America's most watched cable television show has been positive. "People come from all over the world to look around. Many people stop in to take their picture in front of our trailer. It's all been good." Fred and Sue are friendly, helpful and they offer lots of wholesome hospitality. Plus, their antiques and collectibles are priced well. You're sure to find a nice treasure here. Stop in to look around the next time you're in Hurricane, or is that "Hur-ah-kan?"
