Your Very Own Soundtrack to Less Stress

Towards the end of the school year, the stress of high school students reaches its peak through factors including finals, AP exams, SAT’s, those who will be incoming seniors, and others. The one unifying thing that connects our inner feelings is the music we listen to. Whether it be heavy metal, rock music, or upbeat pop, we can all rely on music to help us implement our habits of studying. Typically, along with studying comes an overload of stress which can make students feel defeated at times. However, our personal choice of music can easily soothe this contrasting feeling. Music often allows most to feel in their element during a long-lasting study session. Although one may think that music may contradict and distract a student from studying, it actually does quite the opposite. We know all too well that feeling when the first lyric of our favorite song begins to play, striking a motive of productivity within us while studying.

With the idea of stress being managed through music, Voices Magazine thought it would be interesting to create a survey. Through the survey, we wanted to capture the diverse genres of music and how we all ease our stress with such variety. We also wanted to know more about how we can change our own study habits based on others’ strategies. As a result of the survey, we do use different techniques to study. Besides listening to music, many as well light a wonderfully scented candle, drink their favorite tea, or take multiple breaks in the time frame of an enduring study session. In the end, we all have created a constant routine that may consist of listening to music, helping us find comfort in doing work that we often do not want to complete. If you do not have a study routine down or possibly want to avoid "Senioritis", we suggest that you take a look at the "Study Session Survey" techniques that others use to study!
