Art Students, Sophia Almaraz, Leslie Garza, Abylene Sanches, and Areli Zepeda, painted the dancers in Mexican Sugar Skull Makeup, or as known in Mexico, Catrina.

According to abc7News magazine, La Catrina was created in 1910 around the start of the Mexican Revolution by José Guadalupe Posada, a Mexican printmaker who created political cartoons; “The original name was La Calavera Garbancera,” said

They’re dances from Mexico like the Traditional Mexican Dance from the state of Jalisco and the Azteca Concheros. They also perform dances from Spain such as the Tanguillos, and Cuba’s Cha- Cha- Cha.

The Hispanic Festival not only has a platform to showcase the performers talent and appreciation for our roots, but it brings VMT fine arts and communications programs in unison to appreciate our culture.
