About me

I am a product, graphic and service designer, freelance artist and educator. So far I have lived in six countries (Romania, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Switzerland, France and Argentina) and I speak five languages.

In order to briefly describe my work I need to mention that the starting point of any project that I engage in is empathy, listening to people (stakeholders, clients, users), finding out what counts for them and, then, identifying an opening for a creative intervention.

I enjoy working in projects that bring people together through action, dialogue and that also bring a colour to their lives through a multimedia approach.

I have included in my portfolio various types of work that I have been engaging in linked to my professional development, the people I’ve met and worked with and my subsequent design, fine art, education or photography projects.

All of this I consider to be representative of the work that I have been doing, as an expression of different thoughts, perspectives, concepts and possible solutions through visual story - telling and for expressing my openness towards learning new things and exploring various sides of visual communication.

THE GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART (2009, SCOTLAND)

As a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, I see myself as an empathetic designer, equipped with critical thinking and a passion for design sollutions, in a wide range of educational and commercial environments.

Whether designing an object for improved practicality and aesthetics, or implementing fresh information delivery in an industry, such as health, education, local administration, entertainment, I apply the latest techniques and thinking on contemporary design, in a manner comprehensible to client needs. This is founded on a real appreciation of the creative process, at heart, added to rigorous testing.

In addition, my desire to maximize the impact of visual communication, through all aspects of design, is based on a true appreciation of today’s global economy. Using my experience with different environments, knowledge and creative work, I am able to interpret and pay close attention to the needs of the student and client alike. This is linked to effective teamwork that requires particular attention to the input from many different stakeholders.

As a pro-active researcher, I have benefitted enormously from exposure to new trends that allow me to continuously develop my expertise. This, in turn, allows more effective implemention of projects that require co-operation and dialogue at every step.

We took the “Apple revolution“ as an example of good brand strategy that turned proffessional tools in consumerist products through a minimalist alternative both aesthetically and functually.

Brand We realised that the “g, o, o“ leter group is found in the names of many successfull brands, which has a strongly sensorial impact on the public.

We have included the wet algal texture in our final logo in order to suggest the fun-organic feel of our products.

We have finally decided to keep the moderna font for our final logoin the spirit of organic freshness, youth, approachability and friendliness. The “g“ looks like a microscope, hence making a reference to natural science.

BRAND LAUNCH TEST TABLE, GLASGOW, 2012

Using scenarios, prototypes and simulations for presenting a product within the setting where a user can interact with it as in real life, demonstrates that a designer is not unlike an explorer, always formulating questions about what a future product will need to be and what purposes it might ultimately serve to its user.

The presentation on this page, clearly demonstrates my commitment to design process and transparency which are key elements for launching a truly sustainable, innovative product or service.

This approach can be achieved through multiple media and techniques starting from story - boards, e

LEATHER PROJECT, GLASGOW The brief of this project was designing objects that do not usually contain leather, bringing an innovative sense to their usability and aesthetics.

Leather from producers that match interiors for global brands such as British Airways, Jaguar or Aston Martin had been donated as a biproduct of various colours, textures, shapes and sizes to our product design department, at the university, in order for us to maximise their potential within product prototypes.

I proposed a compact hand-held torch (flashlight) covered in leather, containing a certain visual pattern. The friction obtained through the leather and wood texture along with the sphere shape of the product makes the tourch feel very pleasant and easy to hold.

The overall aesthetic of the torch was intended to reflect elegance, but at the same time an edgy personality.

My inspiration came from super-hero outfits.

Experience Design GAME DURING COFFEE

For my “Design for Experience” project, I invented an electronic game that can be played during “cake and coffee” social events. This game offers an experience that applies equally to celebrations and gatherings of friends, team building at work or entertainment events in pubs, cafes etc.

The Rules

1.

Each player places the device on his / her plate.

2.

The host starts the game by pressing the button in the middle

3.

The light on the device starts blinking each second, moving from one player to another. The guests carry on eating their cake and having a drink until the light stops on one plate for about 30 seconds

4.

The person with this plate needs to put down his food and drink and press the two touch pads simultaneously (while the others are still eating). This will pass the light to the next player. If he fails to touch the pads on time he will exit the game.

5.

The light will remain on the next player’s plate for 25 seconds. For each of the next players, 5 seconds will be substracted. When the last player who still has 5 seconds left will press the pads, the time available to each of the next players will be 1 second. The last player left wins.

The Product comes with its own coloured plate matching that of the light on the controller.

Sweet Tooth was inspired by the rules of Musical Chairs where people dance around a limited number of chairs and when the music stops each person has to sit on a chair. Chairs are then taken away one by one, in each round, and those who are left standing exit the game until two people are left to battle over one remaining chair.

Wearable Technology GPS BADGE

As part of a wearable technology project I have designed a GPS badge that can be easily accessed from the collar of one’s clothes. This is not just an ergonomic device, but it is also a fashion statement. The materials incorporated in the badge are very solid, such as copper and gorilla glass, with a vintage twist.

This project is inspired by steam punk aesthetics. Also, the overall shape is inspired by sea navigation, having the shape of a rudder which turns for zooming.

I have made a model of the badge in Rhino. The device operates on Android. Just like a smart watch it can be connected to a phone.

Ceramics

PRODUCT MODELING

I have made this model of ceramic knofe as a decoration reminiscent of sailing , aqua dynamics, and shark teeth.

It is meant to be displayed as a porcelain minimalist design product and illustrate how a house-hold product can become an element of decoration.

The inspiration of the product came from functional projects including ceramic kitchen knives and the Puente de la Mujer bridge in Buenos Aires.

Evenn though the knofe is not meant for its applied purpose, it shows craftsmanship in a norse design language.

The Admissions Officer confirms receipt of the application papers as soon as the documents are received at the school. The place in the school will be confirmed in maximum three working days, or the student’s name is waitlisted. *The School reserves the right to contact the applicant’s previous school prior to acceptance.

ESL/SEN Fee A special education fee of € ---- per year will be applicable on top of the tuition fee for the students entering Year 3 - 10 who are placed in the ESL programme and for all the students entering the special needs programme.

Step III: Placement Testing

The Admissions Officer will contact the students applying for Year 7-13 in order to schedule an on line placement test which will take place at the school. The placement test fee is €50.

Students joining Primary School are not asked to complete a placement test. They will meet the appropriate KS coordinator on their first visit at the school and may be interviewed. All new primary school students will be assessed by the class teacher at the beginning of the school year.

Step IV: Decision on Admission

The Senior Management Team considers the application based on the test results and previous school report. Applicants will be contacted by the Admissions Officer immediately the decision is made. The admissions office will be happy to answer any enquiries you may have, please do not hesitate to contact us.

A 200€ book fee is charged to primary school students.

The school fee does not cover the book costs for secondary school students. The book list will be confirmed with the parents and the school books will be purchased separately.

Students are given the option to pre-order Apple iPads from school or to bring their own device (BYOD programme) to school, to use electronic textbooks (e-books) .
