HELLO

I am a painter, graphic designer and creative educator. So far, I lived in six countries (Romania, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Switzerland, France and Argentina), which have so far been a great source of inspiration.

My artwork revolves around my journey through the Latin, Slavic, Oriental and Anglo-Saxon cultures. The starting point of all my projects is discovering stories, analysing them and generating a visual, personal response. Throughout my growth as an artist, I have explored the concept of emotional identity, the idea of the inner consciousness that lies within each one of us, regardless of our culture, place or time. As a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, I hold a genuine passion for research and design thinking, which I incorporate in all my creative projects. My passage from fine art to design, from country to country, has not only influenced my artistic expression and visual communication approach; but it has helped me realize that I possess a set of values that remain constant throughout my life, which shape my emotional identity. Through my artwork, I wish to inspire people to discover their true selves.

I chose Bob Marley as a symbol of peace. I have used a minimalist manner of capturing his spirit and decided to decorate him with an army general pattern in order to emphasize his importance in the war against discrimination, against violence and for freedom.

I have employed similar techniques to depict the reflexion of objects in water to convey the idea of after life. The masks represents the characters that we play during our lives, based on how we intend to be perceived in this world, in contrast with the belief that we will all be the true essence of ourselves in the next life.

Much

of my art work focuses on

comparing and contrasting western and eastern cultures and beliefs.

By illustrating ribs as a symbol of “wordly existance”, resembling the depiction of a sail boat floating on w a t e r, I h a v e i n t e n d e d t o v i s u a l l y convey the universal concept of transcedentalism or the passage / journey to another life.

The blue water environment is a specific motif in his paintings.

I have used it as well in order to pay a homage to his work. The metaphor I used, a game of chess, the painter being presented as a

chess piece that will still be

nearby even though it will not be on the board anymore.

This piece is inspired by Munch’s “The Scream” and Eckersberg’s “Morning Toilette“ combining two styles

while attaining a fusion effect between reality and imagination.

One of the themes i approach in my artwork is the “Birth of the world“. I was inspired by ancestral beliefs rewwgarding the tree of life which is said to be born from water and to support the earth and the sky.

This work represents the birth of the primordial egg, as a symbol of Genesis. In many cultures, the egg is considered to be a symbol of the world’s birth through divine intervention (Shiva was said to be born from an egg). I have chosen to use the sun as a symbol of divinity, that represents a world beyond and that has been worshiped in different cultures like the Egiption God, Ra.

In eastern cultures the tree of life is said to be an “axis mundi“, a “T“ shaped organism that holds the Ocean, the Earth and the Sky together in great harmony.

I have approached the ideas of the tree of life and primordial egg as symbols of the Genesis of the world as we know it, the passage from complete spiritual/ intangible matter to a the material/tangible construction that holds both a spiritual / inside our minds dimension and a 3D real dimension in which we live.

This work is also about the effects of war on human emotion (the battle field being represented by applied hay), The X shape is inspired by traditional Romanian cottige pillars and the inscription tells the story of a man who went to war at a very young age.

EMOTIONAL IDENTITY 100 CM X 80 CM, 2008

Emotional identity is a concept enrooted in the bear difference between ration and feeling, between the heart as a symbol for emotional inteligence and the brain as a symbol for cognitive intelligence. We all look different and many of us think differently.

The sum of our values, traits and taughts represents our emotional identity. This shows that each one of us is unique. I have represented human uniqueness by corelating it to the uniqueness of letters and their combination in order to create new meanings.

MODERNISM VERSUS TRADITION OIL ON CANVAS, 70 X 70CM, 2009

I have looked into Eastern and Central European mythology and realized that it holds elements that most countries from this region possess. However, Bavarian folk culture goes beyond these myths, through the occurance of the Wolperdinger (a being that is a mix of different animals in one).

I have used Zack Wilde’s guitar pattern as a symbol of modernism and gave the rabbit-stagg a Rock ‘n Roll feel, thus expressing personal view on the

cultural

contrast between East and West, between reality and mythology, between modernism and tradition.

Part of my art work is dedicated to challanging different perspectives on life, based on culture, leisure , phisical traits, daily life and leasure, using satire in order to represent a paradigm shift, paving the way for creating a link between high culture and pop culture.

Part of my art work is dedicated to depicting reality through media experimentation.

The painting on the left is the depiction of Chilean ice caves seen from my perspective, using oil and a palette knife in order to reflect the dramatic scenery that the caves has in reality.

I have chosen digital art as a means of self-expression as it gives me unique technical and mixed-media possibilities.

Generally I like to use a combination of traditional techniques (like drawing or painting) with digital collages and image effects, digital drawings and 3d modelling.

Conceptually I like to comment on the sense of alienation that the digital world brings to our lives.
