“Maps lie, according to the land artists Hermann de Vries and Robert Smithson, when compared with the reality of being in the sites they chose to work. Maps are, by necessity, an abstraction. They reflect the bias of the mapmaker, what they observes, or determines is important or relevant or useful. “ This publication demonstrates different suites of mapping techniques such as Emergent Architecture, Expanded Field and Urban Environment. All maps are to forensically reveal and expose specific identity, issue and typology of an Asian City - Singapore.

Singapore. Efficiency. Compact Identity Singapore is a dense country that has high level of efficiency and system especially in public transport and infrastructure as well as transitions between spaces.

Emergent Architecture This mapping technique is used to index significant points in each network. All the networks are then overlayed with each other in order to reindex the intersecting points between each network. This technique allows gathered data to be put in an abstract representation and generated through a series of rules in order to obtain the precise behaviour of the data. This study is to determine the central point of Singapore in term of urban density and congestion of people by mapping the overlapping between train network, expressway network and electronic road pricing system.

Expanded Field Architecture Technique This study is situated in Orchard Shopping Precinct. By studying the fragments of the precinct allows me to understand that the programs and spaces on the site is so fragmented and break down to almost a human scale. This has encouraged pedestrian to walk from the start to the end of the shopping precinct. In a larger scale, there are multi-layer of networks happen simultaneously which are the bus service, train service, pedestrian and expressway. Again, this shows the efficient transportation network of Singapore. This mapping technique is used to study the ephemeral qualities that lie on the precinct such as fragments, materiality and layering.

Urban Environment This study analyses building typologies at Bugis Shopping Precicnt. This precinct consists of three different building typologies from shopping street, semi-indoor shopping centre, to indoor shopping mall which all of them serve the same program as shopping precinct. Each new building is a new translation of the old one. This mapping technique is used to study and differentiate the quality of spaces and components in depth that make up particular space and typology.
