WILL YOU

GUIDE THE FEET

OF LOCAL SAINTS TO RESTORE THE FUTURE OF LOCAL CHILDREN?

LOCAL SAINTS In faith, Arturo has stepped out to pastor a pioneering youth church in Alajualita, the least developed city in Costa Rica. Many children living there have six or more siblings, and spend much of their time in often-dangerous work. Arturo soon realised that education was the only way to break the cycle of abuse and neglect facing these children, and to change the direction of their future. God had clearly imprinted this vision on his heart, but Arturo wasn’t equipped with the technical knowledge needed. In stepped the Red Viva Costa Rica network and, with their support, Arturo has opened a school, which has quadrupled in size, offering programmes from day care to senior year classes.

“I want to invest my life in this programme as long as I breathe... I feel honoured to wake up every morning and to have purpose. I was blessed to have heard what God wanted me to do, and to be able to do it; there’s nothing special about it, just obedience.” ARTURO

LOCAL CHILDREN “Seeing children break free from addiction was simply a joy for us. I want to be the messenger of that good news. The hope that Jesus offers to those who are suffering is peace. It is through our hands today that he reaches out to these children.” SISTER VEENA

Sister Veena draws her inspiration from Jesus, who walked from village to village proclaiming good news to the poor, the outcast, and the neglected. She leads an organisation in Patna, India that protects children in vulnerable situations, particularly those of travelling migrant workers, many of whom have drug and gambling addictions. Becoming part of Viva’s partner network in Patna has equipped Veena’s organisation with the knowledge of how to best safeguard children. Sister Veena and her co-workers have rehabilitated hundreds of children who, when returning to their own villages, will no longer perpetuate the cycle of addiction and abuse, but rather carry new hope for the future.

THIS YEAR WOULD YOU

GIVE GENEROUSLY TO PAVE THE WAY FOR LOCAL SAINTS,

WHO CONSISTENTLY GO THE EXTRA MILE

FOR VULNERABLE LOCAL CHILDREN, GIVING THEM HOPE FOR THE FUTURE?

UGANDA

RESTORE THEIR FUTURE Esther felt a strong call from God to tell vulnerable girls in Kampala, Uganda about their hope for a better, safer future. Community mentor Esther locates girls who are out of school. She works with the girl and their family to discuss whether catch-up learning, run by Viva and our partner network CRANE, could help the girl to return to school. Esther is forming strong relationships with local parents.

“Whenever I walked the streets, I could see girls out of school. I wanted to spread the good news about our catch-up learning centre so they can make a fresh start. We’re helping our communities transform themselves.” ESTHER

“I PRAY THAT GOD,THE SOURCE OF HOPE,WILL FILL YOU COMPLETELY WITH JOY AND PEACE BECAUSE YOU TRUST IN HIM. THEN YOU WILL OVERFLOW WITH CONFIDENT HOPE THROUGH THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.” (ROMANS 15: 13, NLT)

PRAISE GOD for the incredible work in Costa Rica, and the children now receiving quality education and care from Arturo and his team. PRAY that Aturo and other local saints would find effective ways to collaborate and share ideas with each other, supported by the network. PRAISE GOD for Sister Veena and her calling, which has released so many children of migrant families in Patna from addiction and abuse. PRAY that more and more cities across India would begin to feel the effects of God’s kingdom tearing down the culture of abuse. PRAISE GOD that community mentors such as Esther understand people so well that they can spot children at risk and understand their needs. PRAY that parents would build lasting trust with all mentors, and catch the vision for a future Uganda where all children have the chance to thrive.
