Police treat kids
ON Friday, 12 July, Welkom police members visited the House of Hope in Welkom where abandoned children are being cared for. Members spent some time cleaning the house where the kids live, sweeping the yard and cleaning windows as part of their 67 Minutes for Mandela celebrations. “Some of the members cleaned while others played games with the children outside,” said Capt. Stephen Thakeng, police spokesperson. “The children were so happy, they danced and sang songs dedicated to former president Nelson Mandela. “After a long day, the children were treated
to a birthday cake for Mandela, drinks and party packs donated by Welkom police members.” The event ended on a high note with a powerful prayer by Matlakala Golele who prayed for the children and for a speedy recovery for Mandela. “Col. Mathibello Coobi, the acting station commander of the Welkom Police Station, thanked the Welkom police members and the personnel of House of Hope for making the project a success. She said that the project would continue because those children needed all the help they could get.

Some of the learners showed their generosity by collecting R861,23 in change which will be donated to a charity.
