The Arctic Circle / Napapiiri
The Arctic Circle (66° 33’ 7”) runs across the main runway of Santa’s Official Airport in Rovaniemi to reach the Santa Claus Village. Characteristic for the Arctic region above the Arctic Circle are the nightless night (Midnight Sun) in the summer and twilight in the winter.
/ Pohjoinen napapiiri (66° 33’ 7”) kulkee Rovaniemellä Joulupukin virallisen lentoaseman pääkiitoradan poikki, ja jatkuu aina Joulupukin pajakylään saakka. Arktisella alueella napapiirin pohjoispuolella on kesäisin yötön yö (aurinko ei laske) ja talvella kaamoksen aika, jolloin aurinko ei nouse lainkaan.
Aurora Borealis / Revontulet
The Northern Lights are a light phenomena consisting of colorful and varied patterns in the night sky. The Northern Lights are caused by charged solar wind particles hitting the Earth’s atmosphere. The best times for spotting them are the dark and cloudless nights in the fall and winter.
/ Revontulet ovat valoilmiöitä, jotka koostuvat värikkäistä ja vaihtelevista kuvioista yötaivaalla. Revontulet aiheutuvat aurinkotuulen varattujen hiukkasten osumisesta Maan ilmakehään. Parasta aikaa niiden näkemiseen ovat syksyn ja talven pimeät ja pilvettömät illat.
