Warkworth Castle and Hermitage Warkworth, NE65 0UJ

22

Your group may recognise Warkworth Castle and Hermitage from TV’s ‘Tales from Northumberland’ but the magnificent castle found fame long before that. It appeared in William Shakespeare’s ‘Henry IV’, when ‘Harry Hotspur’ rebelled against the King and lost the pre-eminent Percy family their castle for years as a result. It also featured in the 2015 Magna Carta celebrations, as John FitzRobert, Lord of Warkworth Castle, was one of the barons who vowed, in 1215, to ensure King John honoured the charter.
