UNROLLING FOR 2017 HISTORY Around 950 years ago, William de Percy, direct ancestor of Ralph Percy, the present Duke of Northumberland, came to England from France. But was he part of the invading Norman army with William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings in 1066?
FIGHTING KNIGHTS Meet a band of courageous knights and try on authentic 11th-15th century replica armour, before watching daring combat displays as the knights fight for their honour and your favour. Be sure to cheer loudly for your favourite!

August highlights include Medieval Life Week, and with our Potter-inspired Magic Week continuing into September, it’s the perfect end to the summer holidays.
To try to answer that question the Duke and his Archivist examine the evidence contained in a fascinating 15th century parchment roll from the archives of the castle. In the exhibition, the visitor can see their discussion and enjoy the rare opportunity to view the actual document for themselves.
