Downtown Scranton is
CENTER STAGE
Scranton Cultural Center AT THE MASONIC TEMPLE
Step inside one of Scranton’s most breathtaking landmarks, designed in 1930 by Raymond M. Hood, the architect of Rockefeller Center. Its striking blend of Neo-Gothic, Romanesque, and Art Deco styles makes the Center a true architectural treasure.
Today, it hosts Broadway tours, concerts, comedy, family shows, weddings, cultural celebrations, and community events, while also inspiring through arts education, youth workshops, and local partnerships. With a haunted past that earned it a place on the Lackawanna County Haunted Trail (page 67), the Center is further known for paranormal investigations that add to its mystique.
Broadway in Scranton
As the old saying goes, “If you can play Scranton, you can play anywhere.” Since 1959, Broadway in Scranton has brought nationally touring productions — from award-winning musicals to fan-favorite comedies — to the historic Scranton Cultural Center. Presented by NAC Entertainment with the Broadway Theatre League of NEPA, these shows deliver the lights, music, and energy of New York City at a fraction of the cost. Make it a full night out with great eats, craft drinks, and a Broadway-caliber performance right in Downtown Scranton!
The Ritz Theater
Opened in 1907 as the Poli Theater, The Ritz evolved from a vaudeville stage to a movie house before its 1937 Art Deco renovation gave it new life. Today, this Gothic-style gem hosts concerts, theater productions, classic movies, and special events. Visitors can also enjoy unique on-site businesses, including Noir Dark Spirits, Black Cow Cookies & Cream, Thirteenth Realm, Goblin Alchemy’s Dungeon, and Vanity Artistry. With tales of unexplained footsteps and whispers, The Ritz is a featured stop on the Lackawanna County Haunted Trail (page 67).
