This is the perfect place to explore some of the region’s most picturesque waterfalls! From the most popular and well-known falls (like Raven Cliff and Rainbow) to those that are smaller or a little bit off the beaten path (like Falls Creek Falls and Wildcat Wayside), we’ve got waterfalls that require strenuous hiking and falls that require no hiking whatsoever— like Reedy River Falls, the set you’ll find downtown beneath the Liberty Bridge
Pull up a seat (and a plate…or two) and savor the diverse and delicious flavors of Greenville, named one of the “Best Food Cities in the U .S .” by Travel + Leisure There are countless reasons why we’ve become a foodie city, beginning with nationally recognized chefs and ending with some of the best international cuisine in the Southeast
While summer months can get warm (ranging from 80–90 degrees), and winters are delightfully mild (with temps ranging from 40–60 degrees), it’s spring and fall with their temps in the 60s and 70s that bring out Greenville’s best And if you’re looking for a snow day, Greenville almost always gets two (nonconsecutive) days of snow each winter—best spent building snowmen, sledding on cookie sheets (no point in buying a sled), and battling in epic snowball fights.

Downtown Greenville is a historic Southern city that has come of age once again. This thriving, dynamic place has gracefully transitioned from one of the Southeast’s best-kept secrets to one of its hottest destinations.
Maybe it’ll be the first time you stroll along the wide, welcoming sidewalks that frame our award-winning Main Street. Or when you step out onto Liberty Bridge at Falls Park on the Reedy and gaze down at the energetic tumble of waterfalls below. Maybe it’ll be when you stride through the gates of Fluor Field, the Fenway-inspired ballpark that anchors our bustling West End. Or maybe it’ll happen somewhere in-between—when you lean into an open-air artist’s studio, grab a bite to eat at a street-front café, or pause to sing along with a talented street musician—that you’ll realize that you are someplace very special. Greenville is a city that will surprise you, engage you, charm you, delight you—and welcome you back again and again.
Given the fact that Greenville was once a town driven by the textile industry, it seems appropriate that Main Street has become the connective thread that weaves our downtown together. With its wide, tree-lined sidewalks (wait until you see it at night when twinkling lights create a magical canopy), this bustling boulevard has turned Greenville into a true walking city. Step-by-step, you’ll discover its treasures.
Main Street stretches from the north end of town near NOMA Square and ONE City Plaza, down past the Peace Center and Camperdown Plaza, across the Reedy River at RiverPlace, and reaching
all the way to the classic minor-league ballpark in the city’s West End. Hundreds of times a year, downtown comes alive with events ranging from local concerts and craft beer festivals to Artisphere, Bank of America Fall for Greenville, and euphoria, three of the nation’s premier arts and culinary festivals. And, if you’re here on a Saturday morning between May and October, be sure to catch the TD Saturday Market, which brings more than 75 local vendors, live music, and hometown fun to the heart of downtown.

Greenville Triumph & Greenville Liberty
Whether you call it fútbol or soccer, the World’s Game has come to Upstate South Carolina—and fans here are more than a little fired up about it. Greenville has both men’s and women’s soccer teams that are part of the professional United Soccer League (USL) League One and pre-professional USL W League, respectively. Get your kicks (pun intended) watching both teams play in Paladin Stadium at Furman University. It’s the perfect family-friendly opportunity to keep up with the excitement of the game, but take heed— Triumph & Liberty fans are as excitable as they come, and the longer you stay at a match, you may just become one of them.
Whether you’re geared up to go or set to stroll, Greenville’s great American trail has dozens of reasons for you to slow down and stay awhile.
It’s hard to imagine what life was like before the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail System officially opened its pathways in 2009, greeting an enthusiastic community of runners, cyclists, and other pedestrians just itching to pound the asphalt surface. We’re willing to bet you’ll get that same feeling the first time you set foot on the 28 miles of beautiful byway, breathing in the clean air, and immersing yourself in the trail’s mostly untouched natural scenery.
Look around and you’ll see what makes it special: folks cruising along casually on two wheels; parents and grandparents pushing strollers loaded with water bottles, snacks, and sleepy toddlers; power-walkers absorbed in weekly catch-up conversations alongside marathon runners. It’s the very definition of “multi-use.” There’s only one rule: take it easy. Unless you’re trying to beat a personal best—then we’ll be timing you.
No bike? No problem. Whether you’re catching the trail north or south, Greenville’s got quick, easy, and convenient bike-rental options. Sunrift Adventures, located on the trail in Travelers Rest, rents out cruisers for full and half days, plus road and mountain bikes for full days. Downtown, Swamp Rabbit riders can hook up with Reedy Rides for rentals and bike tours, seven days a week. And it’s a snap to pick up an electric-assist bike at one of the stations downtown via Greenville BCycle’s bike-share program. Pedego Electric Bikes Greenville in Hampton Station also specializes in e-bike rentals, while Carolina Triathlon at The Commons is a convenient place to rent almost any type of bike, directly on the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
If you were to ask Google exactly where the Swamp Rabbit Trail begins and ends, you might get a few different answers. That’s because the SRT was designed with several convenient points of access at various locations along its length, ensuring that each unique stretch of the trail can be easily experienced by both residents and visitors alike. So walk, run, bike . . . just get out there already!
The city’s largest park is bisected by the Reedy River and provides ample space for a variety of recreational amusements including tennis, cycling, Frisbee, jogging, playground activities, and even the Greenville Zoo. Plus, Cleveland Park’s leg of the Swamp Rabbit directly connects to . . .
Home to one of Greenville’s most-photographed landmarks—the Liberty Bridge and Reedy River Falls—Falls Park is an urban oasis painted with colorful blooms and lush greenery. These 32 acres also play host to seasonal events throughout the year, including the Upstate Shakespeare Festival in summer.
West Greenville’s new showpiece, 60-acre Unity Park incorporates grassy lawns, basketball courts, a baseball field, and state-of-the-art children’s playgrounds. Flowing through the park, the Reedy River is spanned by three pedestrian bridges and is bordered on either side by the Swamp Rabbit Trail. At one end of the line of renovated warehouses called The Commons—which includes a food hall—the park’s 10,000-square-foot welcome center features restrooms, a first-aid station, and event space.
The university itself may be private, but Furman invites you to visit their picturesque campus, replete with tranquil lake views (look for the black swan), the iconic bell tower, a spectacular rose garden, and curving trails that weave through the surrounding terrain.
The northern terminus of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, the charming town of TR—as it’s known to locals—is a great place for runners and cyclists to find excellent food and drink. At Gateway Park, mountain bikers can hone their skills on the varied terrain of the Bike Skills Flow Park, while the new PBJ (Pump/Berm/Jumps) trail challenges riders to put their mettle to the pedal.
Although technically a separate section of the trail at the southern end, this wildlife sanctuary is free to enter and offers more than 600 acres of pristine wetlands, forests, and trails that are ideal for hikers and bikers—especially if they happen to enjoy bird-watching.
Swamp Rabbit’s tagline, “Eat Local. Ride Bikes.”, will give you a clue to the philosophy of this wildly popular stop on the Swamp Rabbit Trail—a great place to take a break or stock up on provisions for the ride. In addition to the grocery store, the café offers fresh-made sandwiches for breakfast and lunch, baked goods, smoothies, and coffee. 1 2 3 4 5 6

Seated atop the Blue Ridge Escarpment, Caesars Head is appropriately named for the granite outcropping that resembles the helmeted head of the most famous Roman emperor. Pegged as the “No. 1 Hidden Gem of South Carolina” by USA TODAY, Caesars Head is really a package deal, offering world-class hiking and fishing opportunities in addition to spectacular high-elevation vistas.
As part of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, its numerous trails connect to neighboring Jones Gap State Park and boast a variety of waterfalls—including the stunning 420-foot cascade tumbling from Raven Cliff, the tallest waterfall in South Carolina. With its panoramas and prime position as a flyway during the fall hawk migration, Caesars Head is a bird-watcher’s paradise. Migrating raptors soar on updrafts created by the escarpment, and keen observers might spot the occasional golden or bald eagle mixed in among them.

Hailed by National Geographic as one of “50 of the World’s Last Great Places—Destinations of a Lifetime,” Lake Jocassee is a breathtaking reservoir nestled at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Widely regarded as the state’s most scenic and pristine, this 7,500+-acre lake offers a recreational paradise for visitors, from swimming and jetskiing to standup paddleboarding and kayaking. Its deep, blue waters are also popular with boaters and divers alike; scuba divers can even explore an old cemetery. The town known as Jocassee, as featured in the movie Deliverance, was eradicated before the dam was complete and the lake was created in the early 1970s. Guided boat tours are also available for those seeking a curated experience.
Surrounded almost entirely by public property, Lake Jocassee remains largely untouched and undiscovered, despite its popularity. Its 75 miles of shoreline and 43,000 acres of surrounding forest showcase dense foliage, abundant wildlife, and towering waterfalls. The Eastern Continental Divide running through the Jocassee Gorges creates a unique temperate rainforest climate, supporting diverse wildlife and plant species found nowhere else along the Divide. Here you’ll find the rare and delicate Oconee Bell wildflower, which draws admirers from around the world.

First opened for recreational purposes in 1968, the 56,000-acre Lake Hartwell (which Lake Keowee feeds directly into) is one of the largest lakes in the Southeast. With more than 950 miles of shoreline, it also forms part of the border between South Carolina and Georgia. Admired for its breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, the lake is a haven for boaters, fishermen, kayakers, campers, and hikers.
If you’re into fishing, the largemouth bass are legendary and almost always biting at Lake Hartwell, with the lake hosting multiple Bassmaster Classics. Fish of more than 20 pounds are not uncommon, so you shouldn’t be surprised if you’re passed by several of those sleek, fast-running fishing boats while you’re out on the lake, as it’s constantly hosting some of the nation’s finest anglers.
Its nearly 1,000 miles of shoreline cover parts of six South Carolina and Georgia counties. The lake runs 49 miles up the Tugaloo River and 45 miles up the Seneca River, with the main body of open water stretching six miles across at its widest point.

With 388 miles of shoreline, family-favorite Lake Keowee is a real stunner, offering crystal-clear bluegreen waters and gorgeous mountain views. Less than an hour directly west of downtown Greenville, Lake Keowee is one of the top South Carolina lakes for boating, fishing, water sports, swimming, camping, and picnicking. Covering more than 17,600 acres (making it roughly half the size of Washington, D.C.), the lake has close to a dozen public access areas, and boat rentals are available at several outfitters.
A Cherokee name that roughly translates as “the place of the mulberries,” Lake Keowee today is more widely considered the place for boaters. Its sparkling, warm waters fed by Lake Jocassee to the north, and wide, winding channels make this a desirable destination for vacationers and second-home owners alike.
At approximately 26 miles long, 3 miles wide, and averaging 54 feet in depth, Lake Keowee has been described as being shaped like a Christmas tree. Its large main channel branches off to form many smaller channels and coves to either side; the 77 islands form the “ornaments.”

A local favorite for its cozy subterranean space, Trappe Door offers Belgian dishes like moules frites (mussels and French fries) and carbonades flamandes (Belgian beef stew), as well as a staggering selection of Belgian beers.
Ready for something sweet?
Old Europe Desserts tempts with everything from French macarons and Lemon Bavarian to Italian tiramisu and cannoli.
Spotlighting traditional fare straight from the heart of Swabia, Schwaben House is a staple for German cuisine, while Hans & Franz Biergarten boasts an outdoor patio on which to enjoy wiener schnitzel and a stein of German beer. Head downtown to NOMA Square in October for a taste of Bavaria during Oktoberfest
Awesome Greek specialties abound at Ji-Rōz, where saganaki (flamed kefalograviera cheese) makes a fitting prelude to a succulent lamb burger. Family-owned Greektown Grille is another good spot. In May, the
three-day Greek Festival features homemade Greek dishes prepared by members of the Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral congregation.
You need not venture off Main Street to find great Italian recipes. Nuanced meat and fish dishes and house-made pasta rule at Ristorante Bergamo and Jianna—the latter known for its chic raw bar. Trattoria Giorgio serves a small menu in an intimate atmosphere, while Limoncello offers familiar ItalianAmerican fare with a gorgeous outdoor setting. If it’s pizza you crave, seek out good pies at Coastal Crust, Sidewall Pizza Co., and Pasta Addict/Slice of Brooklyn (commonly referred to as The Slice). At Indaco Italian Food & Wine, indulge in wood-fired pizzas and handmade pasta, alongside an exciting cocktail menu and an Italian-forward wine list.
Synonymous with Spain, small plates known as tapas reign as the way to eat in many a Spanish bar. Nosh on pimientos del Padron and gambas al ajillo, thanks to Chef Fernando Coppola’s menu at Paloma or order a pan of Spanish paella to share at Abanico Tapas Bar
Check out cozy Connolly’s Irish Pub for shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, and Guinness on tap. In the Historic Overbrook neighborhood, Mr. Crisp is tops for perfectly fried fish and chips. Celebrate the Upstate’s Scottish heritage at Furman University on Memorial Day weekend, when Gallabrae, Greenville Scottish Games, showcases heavy athletics, bagpipe bands, Scottish Clans, and food.
Downtown at Aryana Afghan Cuisine, Chef Nelofar Mayar prepares five different Afghan dishes for lunch, based on her family’s recipes. Experience an authentic Georgian toasting dinner at Keipi, in Hampton Station, where a tamada, or toastmaster, presides over this familystyle feast of Georgian food and wine.
When you’re craving Chinese food or need ingredients for that Asian recipe you’re cooking at home, Asia Pacific—which includes a large Asian market—is the place to go. At newcomer Sum Bar, owner Khailing Neoh plates dim sum favorites such as siu mai, char siu bbq pork, and sweet sesame balls.
Buffets brimming with dishes from different regions of India—everything from korma to curry and dosas to dal—can be found at India Palace and Persis Biryani Indian. Fans of Tandoori dishes will appreciate Saffron Indian Cuisine
As local sushi goes, Irashiai on the Eastside is a longtime favorite. Downtown lays out more great choices, from Japanese gastropub Otto Izakaya and SUSHI GO to TakoSushi, which melds the flavors of the Far East with the Southwest. O-Ku's sushi chefs skillfully curate a culinary experience that takes you on a delectable journey as they
showcase the freshest fish from the world’s finest markets. Get your fill of bulgogi, or “fire meat,” at Bulgogi Korean Grill, and visit tiny Korean BBQ, tucked away off Woodruff Road.
Spices like saffron infuse aromatic Middle Eastern cuisine, such as the Persian stews at Pomegranate on Main, also known for its pomegranate martinis. Owners of the local haunt Pita House, the Namouz brothers lure diners back again and again with the likes of chicken shawarma, kafta, and kibbi with grape leaves.
Known for its complex balance of sour, sweet, bitter, and salty elements, Thai cuisine reigns at Basil Thai, with specialties like three-flavored deep-fried whole fish, and crispy red curry duck, while Sweet Basil embraces artful presentations and spicy curries.
The national dish of Vietnam, pho is a soup consisting of an aromatic, herb-infused broth, rice noodles, and meat. For one of the area’s best examples, pull up a chair at Pho Noodleville
A culinary crossroad of exotic flavors, Moroccan cuisine blends influences from North Africa, Arabia, Spain, and France. At The Lazy Goat, you’ll find Moroccan lamb served with flatbread and cucumber yogurt. Seek out Wakanda Lounge Bar & Restaurant for Nigerian delicacies such as suya (grilled beef coated with chile pepper and peanut powder) and spicy jollof rice with goat meat.
The only question is, which continent's cuisine are you going to try first?
Craving craft beer? The preferred place to drink it is at the source. With more than 20 breweries in the area—and more on the way—it’ll take several days to sample them all!
Begin south of downtown on Piedmont Highway—where it all started—at Thomas Creek Brewery, the city’s first (est. 1998) and largest brewery. Here you can taste their two flagships, River Falls Red Ale and Trifecta IPA.
Drive north to Haywood Road, on Greenville’s Eastside, to taste-test the signature lagers, IPAs, and ales at Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant. At Iron Hill, chefs collaborate with the brewers to design
a menu of delectable bites (like Philly Cheesesteak egg rolls) that pair well with Iron Hill beers.
From Haywood Road, hop on I-385 north to downtown Greenville. On Augusta Street, you’ll find a bevy of beer on tap along with light fare, wine, and cocktails at The Eighth State Brewing Company. Then it’s a short drive to Fireforge Crafted Beer and Yee-Haw Brewing Company, located within three walkable blocks of each other. In the Fireforge taproom, choices include Sum Lager, brewed in collaboration with adjoining Sum Bar
restaurant. Yee-Haw’s classics encompass their award-winning German-style Dunkel and a clean, crisp Pilsner—a good choice to quell the heat of fiery fare from on-site eatery Prince’s Hot Chicken.
The final stop of the day lies about nine miles north in Travelers Rest, just off the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail. There, the Swamp Rabbit Brewery & Taproom welcomes cyclists and drivers alike. If it’s on tap, try the Märzen, a malty Germanstyle amber lager.
Start on Stone Avenue, where the Westone development houses Liability Brewing Co. Their brewers use specialty malts from the Carolinas to craft their products.
For something different, head northwest to Wandering Bard Meadery in Hampton Station, a 100-year-old former cotton warehouse. Specializing in mead, a libation made from fermenting honey in water, Wandering Bard offers versions from traditional to meads infused with berries, spices, and local fruit (Carolina Peach Reaper, anyone?). While you’re there, grab a taco from neighboring White Duck and hang out on the lawn, where you can challenge your buddies to a friendly game of cornhole.
From Hampton Station, it’s a 2-mile drive to The Commons, a group of renovated warehouses in Unity Park, where you’ll find Pangaea Brewing Company Brewers here cover all the beer bases from Chupacabrew (Puerto Rican-inspired Light Lager) to Stone Cold Sabertooth Tiger (Cold IPA), and you can pair your
favorite brew with Pangaea’s seasonal snacks, salads, and pizzas. Take a short stroll across the Spinks Bridge over to Southernside Brewing Co., which boasts 10 house-brewed beers on tap. And that’s not to mention a full menu from its scratch kitchen, handcrafted cocktails, and the spacious outdoor area—complete with yard games.
Nearby, in the Village of West Greenville, you’ll discover handcrafted ales, ciders, and meads at Carolina Bauernhaus Greenville in Poe West. Don’t miss the award-winning Oconee Pale Ale, made from 100% South Carolina-grown grains, malt, and hops.
Drive southwest on US-123 to end the day at Magnetic South Brewery at Judson Mill. The second location of the original in Anderson boasts a 10,000-square-foot taproom with seats for 136 people to enjoy Magnetic South’s straightforward, drinkable lagers, IPAs, sessions, and sours.
Remember to pace yourself and use a designated driver, or better yet, call Uber or Lyft for a ride. Taking one of Greenville’s beer tours led by a Certified Cicerone® with The Brewery Experience is another great way to raise a glass to Greenville’s burgeoning craft beer scene—and they do all the driving. Other breweries currently in the works in Greenville’s ever-evolving beer scene include Atlanta-based New Realm Brewing Co. and BridgeWay Brewing Co., coming to downtown Greenville and the new BridgeWay Station in Mauldin, respectively. Be sure to check them out as soon as they open!
The crown jewel of downtown Greenville’s performing arts spaces is the Peace Center. Located on Main Street with a 2,115-seat concert hall and the 439-seat Gunter Theatre, this world-class venue hosts everything from Broadway shows to performances by the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Carolina Ballet Theatre, and International Ballet.

With a focus on the historical, classical, and biblical, The Logos Theatre stages state-of-the-art productions focusing on family values. Bring the kids along to see everything from the Chronicles of Narnia to newly imagined takes on old favorites.
As an innovative Black Box Theater, The Warehouse Theatre is where you’ll encounter a surprising take on Shakespeare and the classics, as well as world premieres like Power of Sail, and contemporary storytelling in Native Gardens.
Despite the absence of its founder, Sandy Staggs, who passed away in early 2023, the award-winning Proud Mary Theatre Company continues its mission of presenting LGBT+ voices to Upstate South Carolina in dramas, comedies, and avant-garde pieces.
For edgy local comedy, you can’t beat Café And Then Some. This engaging downtown dinner theater prides itself on being able to address the many facets, neighborhoods, and subcultures that make up the greater Greenville community—and everyone is fair game!
From Wits End Poetry open mic nights and poetry slams to No Expectations Comedy and Alchemy Theater’s improv, stand-up, and sketch shows, Theater Underground presents some of Greenville’s most talented creatives in its space at Coffee Underground.
You don’t have to go to downtown Greenville to enjoy great theater. The Simpsonville Arts Center showcases performances from Clark Nesbitt’s No Dreams Deferred productions unlimited, Cornerstone Ballet, Greenville Concert Band, and more. Nearby, at the Mauldin Cultural Center, the Mauldin Theatre Company hosts Broadway shows and rockin’ musical revues, while the Mauldin Youth Theatre caters to a younger audience.
If you’re looking for music, theater, and dance that may not be on the mainstream stage, check out the nonprofit Younts Center for Performing Arts. Located in Fountain Inn, the Younts Center fosters an
appreciation of the arts through an array of performances and educational programs.
Performing at the Kroc Center, GLOW Lyric Theatre is a fusion of opera, operetta, and musical theater. GLOW stages unique performances as part of their Summer Festival season— utilizing theater for confrontation, celebration, and driving social change.
“Big-city entertainment at small-town prices” is the mantra of the Mill Town Players, a community theater based in Pelzer with a repertoire including A Streetcar Named Desire and Hello Dolly, as well as rock and country music concerts.
Debuting in 2022, the SC New Play Festival shines a spotlight on new plays and musicals from established and emerging playwrights across the U.S. Every night of the four-day event brings a different performance—staged readings of new plays and musicals, panel discussions with Broadway producers—in a different venue in downtown Greenville. The festival winds up with a closing-night cabaret featuring a Broadway star.
2024 Dates: August 8–11
Greenville boasts an abundance of street art, with captivating murals tucked away in various corners, ensuring that if you blink, you’re bound to miss something extraordinary. Some of our most unforgettable—and unmistakable—works of art can be seen up close and personal . . . if you just know where to look. Here is just a sampling of some of the murals you’ll find in the Greenville area.
Stroll Main Street in Downtown Greenville to discover a small sampling of the more than 160 art installations found throughout Greenville—each of which was made possible by Greenville’s Arts in Public Places Commission. From whimsical to “wow,” you’ll encounter pieces that will bring a smile, make you think, and evoke emotion. And isn’t that what art is really all about?
Translated from the Italian word for “piglet,” this bronze boar next to the Westin Poinsett Hotel is a near-exact replica of the fountain that has been a cultural icon in Florence, Italy, for centuries. If legends are to be believed, a coin dropped through the boar’s jaws and into the fountain grate below will grant you a wish. Be sure to rub his nose for good luck and a guaranteed return trip!
This commissioned sculpture, by internationally recognized artist Bryan Hunt, sits at the Main Street entrance to Falls Park. The second version of this sculpture is in Tokyo, Japan—making Falls Lake Falls not only a unique addition to downtown but also the only piece of its kind on this continent!
This striking work of art on NOMA Square was designed by Upstate sculptor and longtime Clemson University professor, John Acorn. Inspired by nature and the South, the sculpture is a nod to the American Sweetgum tree and the “gumballs” it drops.
Sculptor Deedee Morrison crafted this multimedia piece on Camperdown Plaza. Reflecting the common shapes, designs, and patterns from Greenville’s rich textile heritage, the colorful sculpture incorporates programmed LED lighting and sound.
One of Downtown Greenville’s most recognizable landmarks, the towering clock that stands on Court Square (across from the Westin Poinsett hotel) was donated by the Hipp family. The clock bears the date 1905, the year W. Frank Hipp founded the Liberty Insurance Company that once occupied the building behind it.
