Direct FROM THE GROWERto You

The idea for Garden Spot of Mandeville began decades ago when Judy King started growing ferns in greenhouses on her property, in Bush, Louisiana. Ferns take a while to grow to a size in which they are sellable and so Tommy, King’s husband, started growing vegetables to sell since they are faster and smaller. It was at this time he realized the potential of growing annuals and perennials and selling them to friends.

Word began to spread and people from all over started coming to the greenhouses in search of beautiful plants. They eventually had the idea to open The Garden Spot of Franklinton, an outdoor store created to sell locally grown, quality plants. The store became very popular, enticing people from all over and so the King’s decided to open a store in Mandeville to reach a larger audience.

Thus Garden Spot of Mandeville was born and today both locations are run by Tommy and Judy’s daughter, Sandy, and her husband Tony. Just as they started, annuals and perennials are still grown at the local greenhouses and both locations continue to serve their communities well with high quality, locally grown plant materials and expert customer service.

Garden Spot of Mandeville is a family-owned retail garden center, offering customers a wide selection of high-quality products. Our annuals and perennials are grown at our nursery located in Bush, Louisiana, and our shrubs and trees are sourced from local nurseries so you can rest assured that your plants are coming directly from the grower to you.

KATHY LeBLANC

Education has changed a great deal since Kathy LeBlanc and her husband opened Cedarwood School in August of 1983. As educators with children of their own, the venture was as much a personal decision as a professional one, and it has benefited the children of the Northshore for the last 40 years. “I couldn’t be more satisfied and prouder of what we’ve accomplished and how many children we’ve given the gift of lifelong learning,” says LeBlanc.

Despite the responsibilities of being the president of a school, LeBlanc finds that finding balance isn’t a struggle for her. “Fortunately, I thrive by being at work and working in the environment we’ve created at Cedarwood,” she contends. “The children bring such joy to school every day, so when I’m having a rocky day, I just walk the campus, visit classrooms, and talk to the students. Through their eyes and conversation, I am grounded by seeing my vision and goals come alive. It’s an incredibly moving experience to see, up close, how one person’s work can positively affect so many. Personally, I’ve learned to dedicate time to myself and for my family. Spending time with our grandchildren, trips to the beach, and spending time with close friends is the reward.”

LeBlanc’s passion for her community and making a social impact is seen through her work at Cedarwood as well as some other projects in which she’s had a hand over the years—specifically the Cedarwood Children’s Foundation.

Q /A

Would you rather travel to the past or the future?

KL: That’s not an easy question. I believe our past molds us to create our future, so I relish my past because it has brought me to where I am today. But I am a futuristic thinker, so I always dream about what the future will bring and how I can create it.

Where would you go if you knew you might get stuck there for a year?

KL: Italy! It has all the things I enjoy: cooking, healthy living, wine, and history!

What famous person do you most want to meet in person and why?

KL: Jackie Kennedy. She was a gracious, intelligent, and incredibly strong woman who faced unimaginable challenges and tragedies during her life with courage, style, and grace. I’ve always admired her strength and tenacity.

Pediatric care that fits your life:

St. Tammany Pediatrics Mandeville and ExpressCare Kids

One location. Two ways to get care. Seven days a week.

As every parent knows, kids don’t get sick on a schedule. Fevers spike on Friday nights, earaches start after school and little injuries tend to happen right before bedtime. That’s why St. Tammany Health System opened St. Tammany Pediatrics Mandeville and ExpressCare Kids — a unique, dualservice location designed to meet families right where they are.

Here’s how it works:

St. Tammany Pediatrics Mandeville sees patients by appointment, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

ExpressCare Kids — located in the same space — is open for walk-ins Monday through Friday from 1 p.m.–8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Conveniently located at 3663 U.S. Highway 190 in Mandeville (next to Chick-fil-A), the clinic combines a traditional pediatric office with walk-in care for life’s little surprises — from sore throats and stomach bugs to bumps and bruises.

Boasting a dedicated team of pediatricians and pediatric nurse practitioners, this clinic sees patients from infancy through age 18.

And here’s what really sets it apart: ExpressCare Kids visits are billed just like regular pediatric visits — not as urgent care or ER visits. That means your copay stays the same, no matter the day or time.

Because the clinic is part of St. Tammany Health System, your child’s medical records stay within the network. Whether it’s a routine appointment or a weekend walk-in, every provider has access to the same information, helping ensure consistent, coordinated care.

St. Tammany Pediatrics Mandeville is a place where families can build long-term relationships with trusted providers — and still get support when the unexpected happens. Parents can ask questions, follow up through MyChart, and access pediatric specialists in the same network when advanced care is needed.

From well visits and vaccinations to sports physicals, rashes and earaches, this clinic is designed to be your child’s medical home — from infancy to high school graduation.

To schedule an appointment, call 985-773-1600 or visit sttammany.health/mandevillepeds.

Walk-ins are welcome during ExpressCare Kids hours: Monday–Friday, 1 p.m.–8 p.m. Saturday–Sunday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

This is more than just another pediatric clinic — it’s a true community resource for families who want quality, affordable, and convenient care close to home.

ONE BIRTHDAY AT A TIME

For children facing abuse, neglect, foster care, or homelessness, birthdays often pass without celebration. But thanks to Brooke It Forward Foundation, every child they serve is reminded that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved.

Founded in memory of Brooke, a young woman who loved birthdays, family, and children, the foundation began with a simple yet profound idea—giving children in crisis a Birthday Box filled with cake mix, party supplies, gifts, a grocery card, and heartfelt encouragement. What started as a way to honor Brooke’s legacy has grown into a movement of hope and healing, delivering joy to hundreds of children every year.

The impact of these boxes goes far beyond a single day. For one little girl, it meant learning to blow out a birthday candle for the first time at age five, just before her sixth birthday. For many others, it’s a rare moment of normalcy and happiness in an otherwise difficult journey.

As demand grows, Brooke It Forward faces challenges, including limited storage space and the need for more funding. With each box costing $75, monthly donors play a vital role in ensuring every child gets the birthday they deserve. Community members can also support the mission by hosting box-building events, sponsoring a Birthday Box, or volunteering at monthly opportunities.

Looking ahead, the foundation is expanding its reach to serve 1,200 children through the Northshore Food Bank by 2026 and planning for a new office space to sustain its growth. Through partnerships with local businesses, schools, and nonprofits, Brooke It Forward continues to make a lasting impact—one Birthday Box at a time.

As BIFF Board Member Cleveland Wester says, “There is a LOT of power in this box.”

Inside the Jones Home in TerraBella Social Living

When Chad and Kim Jones returned to Louisiana, they knew Covington was where they wanted to be. After spending time out of state, they were drawn back to the charm and community feel of TerraBella—a neighborhood they admired even while living in Slidell years ago. This move marked the start of a new chapter and the creation of a home that feels as intentional and inviting as the town itself.

Photos by Eugenia Lubrano-Gangi of NOLA Real Estate Marketing and Photography

Completed in 2024 by Centanni Construction, their home was thoughtfully designed with the help of Corrinn Fisher Interiors, who guided every selection—from tile and lighting to furnishings, window treatments, and even outdoor styling. The architectural design by Andy McDonald blends English Tudor charm with a hint of revival, creating a timeless exterior that sets the tone for what’s inside.

The interiors are rooted in a classic traditional aesthetic, softened with antiques and layered with natural tones, textures, and subtle accents of blue and green. The color story evokes calm, warmth, and an unmistakable sense of home. “It’s all my favorite,” Kim says, reflecting on the space. “I love how everything flows—from the living areas to the primary bedroom. Corrinn made every decision feel intentional, both in how it looks and how it works for our lifestyle.”

Visitors often comment on how cohesive and peaceful the home feels. The layout is seamless, with each room carrying the same thoughtful design language. It's clear that form and function were equally prioritized throughout the process.

In the kitchen, a large center island is topped with Bianco Rhino stone imported from Africa—chosen for its distinct golden veining that adds warmth and elegance. The backsplash is a subtle white marble, selected for its simplicity and how well it complements the countertops.

All of the appliances are panel-ready Fisher & Paykel, allowing them to blend beautifully into the cabinetry. A standout feature is the walk-through butler’s pantry, complete with a barrel ceiling and tucked-away appliances.

The primary suite echoes the home’s calming tone. It includes a spacious walkin shower, his and hers sinks, and a separate vanity area. The floors are marble-look porcelain tile, while the shower floor features a mosaic marble pattern. The countertops mirror the kitchen’s, maintaining visual continuity throughout.

One of Kim’s favorite aspects of the home is how it wraps around a private courtyard— visible from the kitchen, dining room, living room, primary suite, and even one of the guest rooms. It’s a peaceful focal point that ties the entire space together.

The Jones home is a reflection of thoughtful design and a deep appreciation for living beautifully in the place they’ve always loved.

LauraRingler

FINDING JOY IN THE JOURNEY

In a world where busy schedules often define motherhood, Laura Ringler has found a way to balance both passion and presence. As a stayat-home mom of four beautiful daughters and the creator behind Northshoremommas, she has turned her love for family adventures into a thriving community resource.

Laura and her husband, James, made the move to the Northshore in 2020, seeking a place to plant roots and create a life filled with meaningful moments. With Adeline (7), Ashlynn (5), Addison (4), and Abigail (1) at the heart of their home, life is anything but quiet—but it is undeniably full of love.

SUPERMOM

Through Northshoremommas, Laura shares family-friendly activities, making it easier for parents to find fun things to do with their kids. What started as a simple idea has blossomed into a trusted space for local moms, proving that passion and purpose can go hand in hand. “Nothing is created overnight,” she says, reflecting on the time and effort it took to build her brand. “I’ve learned to give myself grace and remember why I started— to help moms like me create memories with their children.”

Her work isn’t just a job—it’s an extension of her life as a mother. Her daughters often tag along on outings, turning work into play and strengthening the bond they share. “I love that they get to see me as both a mom and a working mom,” Laura says. “They’re learning the value of hard work and the joy that comes with pursuing something you love.”

Despite the inevitable chaos that comes with raising four little ones while running a business, Laura has discovered that the greatest joys are often in the smallest moments. Like their cherished Christmas tradition—each year, she takes her daughters to pick out a new ornament for their bedroom trees, a simple yet treasured ritual they never let her forget. Or the time when a holiday season derailed by illness turned into one of the most meaningful lessons of all. “We had so many plans—parades, lights, breakfast with Santa—but the flu had other ideas. I worried they’d be disappointed, but instead, my oldest smiled and said, ‘The whole family is together. This is my favorite.’”

For Laura, that moment was a reminder of what truly matters. “Quality time is everything,” she says. “I want my children to remember that their mom loved them fiercely, had fun with them, and smiled often. They are my greatest blessing and joy.”

From coordinating MomCo at First Baptist Covington to helping local families discover new experiences, Laura embodies what it means to be a Super Mom—not because she does it all, but because she does it all with love.

At Dr. Todd S. Brasuell Pediatric Dentistry, our mission is to treat each child as if they are our own, to deliver the highest quality dental care, to introduce dentistry to children in a fun and entertaining environment, and to emphasize pediatric dentistry at a young age that will last a lifetime!

We created our Dental Savings Plan because we believe that everyone should have access to this quality care. Consistent dental visits not only provide your child optimal oral care but are the best way to keep dental treatment costs down. It is also a great alternative for children that do not have dental insurance or that have recently lost their dental coverage.

Our Dental Savings Plan is designed to provide greater access to affordable and quality dental care at reduced rates.

CLAIRE CARLTONand

Some love stories are written in ink, but others—like Claire and Carlton’s—are etched in the wild beauty of nature, the history of New Orleans, and the energy of a packed stage at their own wedding reception.

PHOTOS BY JOSH WILLIAMS

After five years together, Carlton knew exactly where he wanted to propose: deep in the heart of the Hoh Rainforest in Washington State. On a trip that perfectly blended their love of adventure and Claire’s nostalgic appreciation for the Twilight series, the two spent their days hiking and exploring. One particular trail, the Hall of Mosses, was so breathtaking that they returned to the same spot twice—though Claire didn’t know why at the time. Carlton had planned to propose at an overlook, but when the area was too crowded, he patiently waited for the perfect moment. As evening fell and the crowd disappeared, he set up his phone, pretending to take a picture. Instead, he hit record, got down on one knee, and asked Claire to spend forever with him.

Their wedding, held on October 19, 2024, was a quintessential New Orleans affair. The ceremony took place inside the historic Cabildo in Jackson Square, the very site where the Louisiana Purchase was signed. Their officiant noted the poetic symbolism—both the Louisiana Purchase and marriage mark the beginning of something new, a commitment to growth and perseverance. After the vows, guests took to the streets in a classic second line parade, dancing their way through the French Quarter to the reception at Latrobe’s on Royal.

Claire stunned in a simple, white strapless gown, paired with silk opera gloves and a cathedral-length lace-trimmed veil—a timeless, elegant look that mirrored the sophistication of the day. Her bridesmaids wore deep, dark green dresses, complementing the abundance of white florals woven throughout the décor. The four-tier Lambeth-style wedding cake featured classic piping and two alternating flavors: almond wedding cake and carrot cake. Meanwhile, Carlton’s groom’s cake—a red velvet masterpiece depicting a Louisiana marsh—featured figurines of their two beloved dogs, Reggie and Boone.

Though every moment was filled with magic, one of the most unforgettable highlights came later in the evening. Amid the dancing and revelry, Claire and Carlton took to the stage with the band, belting out Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”—a song that might not be on a typical wedding playlist, but was undeniably them.

Following their dream honeymoon in St. Lucia, the newlyweds have settled into their new home in Houston, Texas—but their love story, much like their wedding day, will always be rooted in adventure, history, and a little rock and roll.

The Hannan Hawks Golf Tournament at Beau Chêne Country Club brought together golfers for a day of camaraderie and community. With a morning tee-off, players of all levels hit the greens in support of Archbishop Hannan High School’s mission of faith, excellence, and service. A great day for a great cause!

TAMMANY PARISH STUDENTS WITH EXCEPTIONALITIES TEACHER

TEACHERfeature

Who in your life influenced your decision to become a teacher?

I began babysitting younger kids in middle school and I quickly realized I loved children and their infectious happiness. By high school, I knew I wanted to work with children in some capacity.

What is your biggest challenge as a teacher?

My biggest challenge as a teacher is fostering positive relationships. Building a strong rapport enables me to support students through learning challenges while maintaining their confidence.

What do you find most rewarding about teaching?

The most rewarding part of teaching for me is when a student is eager to learn with me, even when they find the material challenging. It shows they feel comfortable with me and are not afraid to make mistakes in my presence.

How do you make learning engaging and fun for your students?

I love to make learning engaging and fun for my students through games and art.

If you could leave your students with one lasting message, what would it be?

Even though something may be difficult, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible!
