Chairman’s Report

Hi everyone

Monthly Meeting Waimate VCC At Club Rooms, 4 Harris St.

At our last monthly meeting we had a lengthy discussion regarding The swap meeting and our members. We need more of our members

Present;- as per attachment. Apologies;- Graham Dennison, Margaret Rogers, Robert Todd, Keith Blackman. Moved Stewart Townshend & Trevor Holland passed Minutes of previous meeting taken as read, passed

Well another month gone, longer days hopefully good weather

moved Steve Dyson & Bill Ryan

Matters arising from minutes;- Mid winter pot luck dinner was a great success for the 13 that attended. Meeting agreed that the Swap Meet include a car boot sale. That the Club look into increasing the fees for storing private vehicles etc at Clubrooms at next meeting. That this notice to be written in the next Newsletter, “That club thinks that the storage rents be doubled” moved Suzanne Anderson & Stewart Townshend passed

To take part in the running of the club, I know other clubs have the same Problems with our club being one of the smaller ones, lack of numbers Means lack of choice. If we could get half of our members take part that Would be great, we struggle to get 15 to 20 at the meetings we do have 60+ In the club not a good percentage(the old story many hands make light work)

Teapot rally thanks duff and Suzanne this is all arranged just waiting on a date

Swap meet is well under way with Peter taking over the reins, Suzanne is doing Posters and flyers, so we hope the weather is kind to us this year

Treasurers Report;- in Roberts absence Steve presented report, as per attachment moved Stewart Townshend & Trevor Holland passed

National is organized with a good range of venues to go to but we need you to

Club Captain;- Suzanne Anderson reported that she is working on activities for National Cancer Day Rally set for 26th August.

Suzanne has worked hard getting these events arranged so please get in behind us

That the club will need cars to deliver Daffodils for Waimate Cancer Society on 20th August. That she & Barry Duff are organising a run for the Teapot Rally to be held on a day agreeable to North Otago VCC. Parts;-Bill reported a slow month. Have been given a lawn mower & some stationary engines, including an early Villiers, ex David Johnstone estate. Mower is under offer.

Make it a success

Trevor has agreed to to do reports for the beaded wheels which will get our name in print again

Thanks again

Yours in motoring

Swap Meet – The sound of the Passing Bell There is an old Catholic Tradition of ringing a bell slowly to mark an imminent death in the parish, I had a vague sensation at our last meeting that I could hear that bell ringing for our swap meet…… Last year’s swap meet had a very poor turn out of site holders and I am quite sure if we have the same this year it will spell the end of our swap meet as we know it. Some want to turn it into a jumble sale, others want to charge more for sites, none of which will encourage Car enthusiasts to come. Nobody put their hand up to organise the swap meet, yet we have around 70 members in our club??? I sat listening to the same old talk…. No younger members, then apparently our younger members (which at nearly 50 apparently that is me) don’t know how to volunteer anymore?????? While our younger members work 40-50 hours a week, run business’s and raises children while trying to make ends meet, the other 65 of you are retired (or is that just tired???) Where is the passion and interest in your old cars that you use to have? Can you not give even 1 or 2 hours a month to the club??? All that crap in your shed, can you not load it onto a trailer and bring it to the swap meet to once again make it a success??? While there are those in the club who want to raise storage fees and site fees to raise more money to put in a pot for a “rainy day”, how about focusing more on becoming a vibrant living club once again… let’s face it, there is no point having plenty of money if there isn’t a club to spend it….. Every club member will be rung and asked to put a site in this year, we all have junk we can sell…. And hopefully this has stirred you into thinking about where our club is headed…. And if you don’t agree with what I have said or this has upset you…. Good I have very very broad shoulders come and prove me wrong…… There are two more bells… The Death Knell… Then the Corpse Bell… let’s make sure The Passing Bell I could hear was just an echo from another club… ….
