Another good attendance for the June club meeting and it was especially rewarding to be part of Keith Blackmans life membership award presentation. It was great to see Keiths family members along to join in the celebration and enjoy the supper. Thanks, Robert, for the insights into some of Keiths early exploits and thanks again to Steve and team for putting on the excellent supper.

Thanks to Steve, Bob and Trevor for the repairs to the clubroom window surrounds.

There is not much going on for the rest of the month apart from the parts day and midweek run on Wednesday the 25th. The clubrooms will be open for a morning cup of tea, please feel free to come along.

I am sure that we will all be looking forward to the upcoming events, namely Henry Ford’s birthday meeting on the 26th of July and the garage raid on the 2nd of August.

Pleasant Point have a swap meeting on the 13th of July. This is held at 29 Maze Road.

The scooter run will be upon us before long so get those scooters, mopeds and tiny motorcycles tuned up and ready to roar for this fun event, on 17th August.

The year 1920 saw The Colonial Motor Company Ltd - the then New Zealand representative for Ford activities - select Timaru as the assembly point for Ford cars in the South Island.

This assembly plant operated in Sophia Street, Timaru and continued until 1936 when the Ford Motor Company Ltd opened up its own manufacturing plant in Seaview in Wellington.

Ford has been represented in Timaru since 1908. Several privately owned dealerships held the franchise until 1931 when Timaru Motors Ltd was formed. Since then, this company has built up a healthy reputation as the major South Canterbury franchise for Ford. Cheers, Wayne
