CHAIRMANS REPORT

Welcome to Spring, we have had some great warm weather lately and I hope everyone has been out there enjoying the sunshine.

We extend our sympathy, condolences, and support for Keith Blackman’s family at this time of Keith’s passing. A stalwart of the Waimate branch, life member and friend, Rest in peace. Hopefully we can put together an annual Keith Blackman memorial run, in the third week of September, starting next year.

The parts shed is open Wednesday morning, the 24th, this week, so come along for a cup of tea and chat, and there is also the mid-week run, after lunch.

A warm welcome to our newest members, Bevan Hurst and Lindsay Anderton.

The swap meeting was well supported by the public but unfortunately the number of sellers sites was well down this year. It was still an enjoyable day out, the catering staff did an excellent job, the parts shed had a profitable day, thanks to the raffle ticket sellers and many thanks to Peter Bland for putting it together.

The wallaby run planning is coming together and Owen and Peter are putting together the Christmas party/ observation trial, full details to follow.

For those going to Highland Park Racetrack on the 11th of October, please meet at the clubrooms at 9:30 am so that we can travel down together.

It was good to see the clubrooms being used by the Custom and Classic Waimate car club for their highly successful Poker run event last weekend.

The Soviet Union experimented with a nuclear-powered car in the z1960s. The Volga Atom prototype in 1965 being the most well-known attempt, it used a very advanced 500-kilogram atomic engine. The car could theoretically travel 60,000 kilometres without needing refuelling. The project was ultimately scrapped due to political changes and technical challenges.

Cheers, Wayne
