South Waikato Vintage Car Club Newsletter October 2025

The South Waikato Vintage Car Club meets at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of each month (except January) at the Club Rooms, Pepperill Rd Lichfield.

Club members enjoy a monthly drive to various destinations, organise a yearly TTT rally, take part in fundraising , and participate with other Vintage Car Clubs in events. Socially, the Club lunches together fortnightly, celebrates mid winter, Christmas and New Year events, and supports local promotions and happenings.

The SWVCC welcomes new members.

A Busy Time Ahead

As Christmas and New Year fast approach, our Club has a busy time ahead. The TTT Rally, scheduled for Sunday November 30, is well in hand, with organisers plotting routes and gaining permissions to conduct the rally. Increased Health and Safety issues are making it increasingly difficult to conduct the rally as of old, but our team promises an interesting, exciting and challenging day in the wilds of Waikato. If you have not entered, an entry form is included in this newsletter. Support your Club and the members who work so hard to provide a once a year experience.

Recent Highlights -The Trip to Jukebox Diner and Museum

A few members travelled to Hamilton to spend the day at the Jukebox Diner and Museum.

Members enjoyed the ambience of the Jukebox Diner and a delicious meal at the Café. They also took a tour of the museum, which features a variety of veteran and vintage cars, as well as classic cars. They then travelled home after a very enjoyable day.

Arapuni Road Trip

In October some members met at the Clubrooms and travelled on a tiki tour to Arapuni. It was with grateful hearts that there, members were able to catch up with Trevor Appleby, who joined them for lunch at the Rhubarb Café. Members were impressed with Trevor’s latest wheels, a state-of-the-art electric wheelchair, which has automatic folding, reverse gears and full speed forward gears. Trevor continues to make

an excellent recovery, and we are thrilled to have him back on board.

Upcoming Events

SWVCC Chairman Pieter Deutz-Ebeling models the Polo Shirt available to purchase in conjunction with the Highland Fling. The Waikato Highland Fling will be held in February/ March 2026 in the Te Awamutu district, and will be run by SWVCC.

Which brings us to the TTT Rally. Club members Kim Munden and Peter Smit have been hard at work formulating this annual event, organised and run by SWVCC. In fact, the whole Munden family is crucially involved in the continued success of this event. It is important that all Club members support this rally. It is a lot of fun, and great prizes can be won Why not get into the spirit of things and dress for the occasion?

Adrian Worsley Free Open Day

Adrian Worsley is a well-known New Zealand sculptor located in Te Aroha. He makes incredible sculptures out of scraps of old machines, spanners, in fact anything made of metal.

On Sunday November 2 there is a free open day at Adrian’s workplace. Attendence price is usually $20. Club members Noel and Wendy are attending, and are wondering if any other members would like to join them for the day on a Club run. It is envisaged that members would meet in Matamata and lunch could be a cabinet lunch at a local restaurant. If you are interested, please contact Noel and Wendy on +64210 281 9389 or email countryescape002@gmail.com. for arrangements. Look on Facebook or Google to see some of Adrian’s fabulous creations. You can take your everyday car.

Chuck’s Chuckles

A tribute to past member Chuck Hausman, who always loved a joke.

On their honeymoon, the new husband told his bride “I have a confession to make that I should have told you before, but I was concerned that it might affect our relationship”.

“What is it?” his new bride asked lovingly.

“I’m a golf fanatic”, he said. “I think about golf constantly. I’ll be out on the golf course every weekend, every holiday, and every chance I get. If it comes to a choice between your wishes and golf, golf will always win”.

His bride pondered for a moment and said “I thank you for your honesty. Now in the spirit of honesty, I should tell you that I’ve concealed something about my own past that you should know about. The truth is, I’m a hooker”.

No problem,’ said her husband. “Just widen your stance a little, overlap your grip, and that should clear it right up”.
