Firstly, a “Thank You” to those of you who provided motor cars for the recent Hobby Show – Jill Roberts with the Mini. Maureen with her Prefect, Greg with his Morris Minor and Rodney Hutchison with his Bentley and my Daimler.
Your efforts are appreciated.
A “Thank You” also to those of you who volunteered time to ensure our cars were safe and answer any questions that may have arisen from show attendees.
Another to arrive after the above photo was taken was Dave Nixons new VW Kombi. It’s a real beauty with great paint but no roof. Just like his Beach Buggy. Not sure of the vintage but looks around mid 1960’s. Oh and by the way it’s an EV.

Heather Duncan has come up with a great idea for the ladies of the club. She will have a get together between 9-30am and 2-30 pm. Below is her report on the first meeting.
Thanks to the ladies who attended the first day for us ladies – something that’s not associated to the boys and cars. This was held on Tuesday 17 June from 9.30 to 2.30 for members to pop into the clubrooms and have a cuppa and chat, and bring along some crafting if desired. Around six ladies popped in over the day, some with crafts and some merely to socialize. Many thanks to Trish P for the shared lunch – it was lovely. Feedback was that attendees were keen to have this as a regular event. My bonus was that I got lots of hand sewing completed. Viv machine sewed a heap of fabric for a cot quilt, others did knitting and crocheting.
At this stage the days will work around my schedule, but I will commit to these hours on the chosen day once a month. Sometimes I will be able to be flexible on what day it’s held, but this is also dependent upon the rooms being available.
Best of all there is no charge.
Ring or text me if you have any queries, and maybe see you at one of these days soon.

Another lovely day on Tuesday 22nd July for the second craft day organised by Heather Duncan. Approx 8 ladies were in attendance with another 2 joining for lunch around 12 o’clock. A variety of crafts being completed including quilting, knitting, quilling, crochet and lamp shade making along with a chance to chat with others.
Feel free to come along , its free to attend. Bring some lunch and enjoy each others company.
Next months date will be advised in due course.
Lynette Doree
A different format for this months club night. Because of the cold weather it was changed to a pot luck lunch on the Sunday. A good turnout of around 30 people with a nice array of delicious food to be consumed. Some beautiful dishes including desserts and plenty to go around.
Thanks once again to the kitchen helpers for cleaning up after us.
Next month will also see the Club Night turned into a Sunday lunch or similar due to the cold evenings and possible inclement weather.
By now you should all have received the official email with regard entering this rally in Nelson next year. Tony Mannington and I would like to get everyone who is going to have a get together to possibly co-ordinate getting there and how we act as a club while there. Check out the website for more info; https://www.historicmotoring.org.nz/
Ed.
NB. Those who still need to get a VIC for their car get in quick. National headquarters have advised that there are a lot being received and there is a backlog of around 8 weeks at present. Get them in quick and note if they are for the Vero National rally next year.
You should all have received your voting paper with your copy of Beaded Wheels and an email from National Office quoting your membership number. It is important that you vote as early as possible. Nows good.
It is important to note that these changes have been forced on all incorporated societies by a change in the Government Legislation. If we don’t get this done we will cease to exist. I have reprinted the letter sent with that email for all to read outlining points of change in the document. We also have to do our own constitution. But that’s for another time
The club (read Owen Duncan) has had a supply made of radiator plaques for members. These are full colour plaques with fixing bolts attached to the reverse. Cost to members is $25-00 for the plaque. Owen has also had made a mounting bracket which may make mounting it to your car a bit easier. These will cost $15-00. If you would like a set give Owen a ring on 0274 482 484.
Some of you may be aware that Ford NZ has become an official partner with VCC for this event. We are to liase with the local branch and see how we can co-ordinate activities with them. Eric is to talk with the dealer principal and all will be revealed in due course. This is on August 24th so mark it your diary and participate in this very worthy cause.
The North Island Model A Ford Club is coming to Taupo on the weekend of 7th to 9th November 2025 for our Annual Hubley Racing Challenge Weekend. We have some activities for our guests coming to Taupo including a boat trip on the Ernest Kemp on Saturday the 8th November. Midday only cruise.
A rate of $45 has been set for Seniors and we need 40 to fill the boat at this rate. There are still vacancies.
Any of our Taupo VCC Clubs members that wish to join us are most welcome. Catch up with other VCC members and of course Model A members. Enjoy complimentary tea, coffee, cookies on board. Wine and Beer available for sale.
Later in the afternoon you may wish to come and watch our Hubley Racing at the Cossie Club from 4.00pm.
Please contact Tony Mannington on 0274942445 to pay and secure a spot on the Ernest Kemp.
There’s this one
We won’t make it this year as we will be in Aussie. These guys came to our Country Roads Rally so let’s return the favour and go to theirs. Mannington’s and us went to this last year and it was well organised and a lot of fun. Hey and it’s just up the road.
And then there’s this one
More work is being done to catalogue the NEW stock in the parts shed. This is going to take a while but will be well worth it in the long run.
As mentioned in last months update we have a good range of NEW oil filters. We also have air filters, some points and condensors and a large range of new distributor caps. Don’t be afraid to ask either Tony Mannington or Myself (Graeme Doree) and we can check for you or meet you there at a convenient time.
Next open Thursday 31st 10am to midday.
We now have an AED cabinet fixed to the wall inside our club rooms entrance way. If you need it just follow the instructions on the cabinet and then the voice prompts when you turn it on. This unit is available to all users of the Hickling Park area.
Another out of the box magnificent winters day dawned for our run to lunch at the Landing Café at Lake Tarawera. A good turnout with 15 cars and members turned up at the clubrooms to start the journey. Off up highway 5 we went but it must have been a bit cold for the Zephyr as in true brass monkey style a ball fell off. Just past the Wairakei roundabout the ball joint on the throttle link came apart. Bad luck as that finished Rays’ day out. The rest of the crew continued and arrived at the lake around midday. Lunch was pre-advised to the café and you only had to give them your name and they prepared your food. A wonderful place with a magnificent view looking toward Mount Tarawera across the lake. Once we were all well feed and watered it was time to return home. Trish’s Falcon had other ideas and as she left to climb back up the hill it stopped. After some analysis it was determined that she had a fuel problem. After check various posibilities a clever man with a Bentley realised that a needle valve was stuck and once removed and cleaned the car burst into life once again. We didn’t see her stopped on the highway so must have been all good.
With the passing of our patron Graham Mock it is timely to remember those we have lost from the club in the last few years. These guys were very active in the club and their contribution should never been forgotten.
Trish Jefferies, Pam Mannngton, Brent Davidson, Graham Mock, Bruce Jefferies and Toni Mannington. Brent, Graham and Bruce are gone but not forgotten.
Bruce Jefferies and Norm Pointon
