Chairman's Report Welcome to a new Financial year under my chairmanship and a very ethusiastic committee. Thanks. We have just had our second committee meeting at Wanaka which combined an earlier visit to Greg Doran's airport workshop to inspect his hand-built vintage aircraft. This is an absolute credit to Greg's woodworkng skills and when in the air will bring him many hours of pleasure. Next stop, was a very large (and only halffinished in size) collection of vintage tractors -dozers and memorabilia. This will be officially open next Easter as part of “Wheels in Wanaka”. But the real important thing for me as Chairman (with committee assistance) will be to encourage a lot more enthusiastic support from the membership by offering a full program of good events. We have already started by advertising in the P.S. our Calendar of events for this year. This is by no means complete, so if you have input please tell the committee your ideas. With my past experience as a VCC Branch Chairman and more presently being Club Captain of Otago Classic Car Club , I hope to bring a full club program. We also need to utilize more our clubrooms which is a good asset. This is why the Blossom Festival committee will be starting and finishing the rally at the clubrooms. Hope we can bring you more motoring pleasure. Murray George Greg Dorans Pietenpol ‘Air Camper’ early versions were powered with Model T and A Engines

Central Otago Branch’s Blossom Festival Rally Saturday 22 September 2018 Rally entrants will meet at our clubrooms, Litany Street Cromwell, at 9.00 am for morning tea and rally briefing. Cars will leave for Alexandra from 10.15, where those taking part in the festival parade will park up in Enterprise Street (Turn left into Royal Terrace, at the top of the hill before the town centre) under the guidance of the parade marshals. The parade starts at 11.45. Those not entering the parade can proceed to Alexandra at their leisure. Parking is available in Bantry street, handy to the festival in Pioneer Park. (normal admission payable) After enjoying the festival and lunch you can head off on the rally in your own time but those on the long route will need to be away by 1.30. There will be some gravel roads but you will see some spectacular Central Otago countryside. There will be a shorter sealed route available. The rally will end at the clubrooms with prize-giving and the opportunity to have a look through the parts sheds, have a drink and catch up with other entrants. The meal will be at the Victoria Arms Hotel in Melmore Terrace commencing at 6.00pm

The Road Code to be observed and all entrants are reminded to allow faster traffic to pass where this can be done safely. It is the drivers’ responsibility to ensure their vehicle complies with applicable vehicle and safety regulations. (Warrant of Fitness, Registration etc.)

Editors comment; I am filling in for Don and Lynne until they return from holiday, so I found all these FORD photos well have you ever heard of a Hupmobile GT? Or for that matter a Bugatti 1300 anyway its all grist for the mill. Had our first non-’meeting’ night and a demonstration of the differential, George Page bought a complete Hupmobile back axle from one of those 1916 ‘Prairie Schooners’ and a diff head, I had a Mazda /Overland diff head too smaller but remarkably similar. Bill Crooks helped too and its good having another perspective. As I said ( ladies present) I had never heard of a diff as an excuse for a late night breakdown with a young lady as a passenger! The evening then concluded with discussion re various events and the last Irishmans Rally over 160 cars this year , and maybe as a result there could be another entrant or two next year. Next Month our Guest Speaker will be from the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust so another good evening in the making. Our VCC management committee discussed the Programme for the next six months, we need a keen person to step into the Club Captains role, The Club is purchasing a big screen TV and installing ‘White’ boards, there are on going discussions with the Council and Lions Club /men’s shed people.

THE CONFESSION.... Hi Bob, This is Alan next door. I have a confession to make. I've been riddled with guilt these past few months and have been trying to pluck up the courage to tell you to your face, but I am at least now telling you in text as I can't live with myself a moment longer without you knowing. The truth is I have been sharing your wife, day and night when you're not around In fact, probably more than you. I haven't been getting it at home recently, but that's no excuse, I know. The temptation was just too much. I can no longer live with the guilt and I hope you will accept my sincerest apologies and forgive me. It won't happen again. Please suggest a fee for usage, and I'll pay you. Regards, Alan.

THE ACTIONS.... Bob, feeling insulted and betrayed, grabbed his gun, and shot his neighbour dead. He returned home where he immediately poured himself a stiff drink and sat down on the sofa. He then looked down at his phone where he saw that 5 minutes earlier, he'd received a second message from Alan, which he hadn't noticed before. THE SECOND MESSAGE.... Hi Bob, This is Alan next door again. Sorry about the typo on my text a minute ago. I expect you figured it out anyway, and that you noticed that my silly phone autocorrect changed 'wi-fi' To 'wife'. Technology hey? Regards, Alan.

Apparently a Model B Ford recently sold for one million euros one of only four in the world………. We had electric cars in the 19th Century too .. To be really green we will have to accept nuclear energy otherwise we are in for a heap of brownouts if we are serious about modern electric vehicles. Did a Junkers JU88 reconnaissance aircraft make landfall in New Zealand in WW2?
