Chairmans Chatter for Topical Torque

Hello Folks

I hope the changeable weather has not stopped you getting out and about in your vehicles over the last months as we have our Annual Maunga Moana Rally coming up at Easter weekend. It would be great to see a few more entries coming through to Rally Organiser Rob Thomson. The Rally dinner to be held at the Plymouth International Hotel on Easter Saturday night will also honour two members who have held continuous membership for 50 years. Any member is invited to come to the dinner even if you are not rallying. All you need to do is let Rob know and send the required fee for the dinner. It’s a great social night to be all together.

As reported in the latest Beaded Wheels we also send Congratulations to our branch member Les Bognuda who has been appointed to the Vehicle Technical Committee which is charged with overseeing VIC certification. Les has helped many of our members to obtain these certificates and has worked in the specialist field in the motor trade as warrant of Fitness and compliance certifier's. We are very proud to have a Taranaki member appointed to this committee. We are very lucky to have Les and also Mike Williams in our branch who helps with all vehicles requiring certifications.

Also, in the latest Beaded Wheels our member Anthony Wilson is looking for information on a 1915 Calcott motor car that was found under a house in Auckland by members of The Crank Handle Club back in the 1960s. If anyone could help Anthony, he would really appreciate any information and you can contact him on Ph 0212278177.

The 1929 Studebaker that was also featured in the latest Beaded Wheels is also worth mentioning as this car was owned by past member Eric Hodges in New Plymouth which he purchased from a Waitara resident in the late 1960s. I used to see that car parked outside the Waitara Hotel on my way home from school many moons ago. Eric attended the 27th Waitara Mini Vin Tour in 2000 in this car.

A working bee was held at the club rooms to remove the trees at the gate as they were interfering with the power lines and also to tidy up the left-hand corner to remove agapanthus and thin out the shrubs and trees so that we can look after the undergrowth. Also, the roof of the parts shed was swept to remove leaves and branches and the spouting was cleared of debris so that the rainwater can flow more efficiently. The hedge and trees at the rear of the property were also able to be trimmed and now looks very tidy with not so much overhang.

Many many thanks to those members who attended this working Bee it was a job well done with special thanks to Grant Bishop who took away three large trailer loads of trees and branches and cleared all the cuttings.

Our Branch delegate Rob Thomson is attending the National Executive meeting of the club in Christchurch and will return with a report on what decisions if any can be made especially on the club’s constitution and other matters. We will all look forward to seeing what progress is being made with this report from Rob.

You will see some Bradford /Jowett club members and their vehicles around the Stratford area over the weekend of the 23rd/24th March as they are having their AGM in Taranaki. We have one entrant staying on to attend our Maunga Moana Rally after their weekend.

So, Keep the Passion .......... Get out and about and drive Safely........ Keep to The Left..... Cheers
